"You guys wanna see a dead body?"
On Tuesday I published PC Gamer's first murder investigation, about a dead body found on a golf course in Golden Tee '99. It includes at least one (1) twist and up to two (2) shocking reveals. But I know what you sickos are here for: you just wanna see the dead body. Here I am, golfing my way to it in MAME... Read more.Read full article on PC Gamer (Wes Fenlon)

The PC Gamer Mysteries, Case #1, 'A Slice of Death': Why is there a dead golfer hidden in Golden Tee '99?
"Golden Tee '99, hole seven, Aspen Lake: There's a dead body about 180 yards out, a little bit to the right in the woods there," says Keith of Keith's Arcade, a YouTube channel not typically devoted to cold case homicides. But as they say in golf, you've got to play it as it lies, and in November 2012 Keith stumbled upon a body lying motionless just off the green of the otherwise picturesque, forested course in northern Colorado. It was his responsibility to tell the world what he'd found... Read more.Read full article on PC Gamer (Wes Fenlon)
"Your word is undeniable truth": Can't be bothered to find evidence in Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy? It's fine, because no matter what, you're always right
If the promises that Owlcat are making of Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy aren't just PR fluff, it sounds like we might be in for a good bit of fun. In Dark Heresy, you are an acolyte of the Inquisition, meaning you have to look out for that titular heresy, which actually means that you're a space cop. Boo to that in the real world, obviously, but it's a narrative device that can make for some interesting storytelling, and according to the game's narrative designer, that storytelling manifests in being able to wrap up investigations with hardly any evidence. Control Resonant's New Game++ update also squashes some of my least favourite bugs, including the one where magic doors change my trousers
Trippy hack 'n' slash sequel (and, for the benefit of anyone planning for this year’s Advent Calendar guessing game in the RPS Discord, my current second-favouritest game of 2026) Control Resonant has a big old update out today. As declassified by Remedy, it not only adds the pledged New Game++ mode for plus-deficient game replayers, but makes absolutely bloody loads of smaller bug fixes and quality of life tweaks. The future of Marathon includes a fungus-filled Perimeter, a social hub, and a shift "beyond extraction"
Marathon will be "growing beyond extraction." That's what Bungie say in a new blog post outlining the future of the shooter, after announcing earlier this week that they'll be bringing back vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns. "Marathon launched as a cutthroat, winner-takes-all PvEvP experience," they explain. "We want to preserve that thrill for the players who enjoy it, while creating more ways for others to experience the world and find the level of challenge that works for them." Gamescom 2026 — WARLOCK: Dungeons & Dragons Feels Like It Is On Its Way to Something Great
To say I have been hyped for WARLOCK: Dungeons & Dragons with no real evidence as to why I should be is an understatement. Until gamescom 2026, the only look we had at the game came from what I would call a hype trailer, and it certainly did its job. I immediately fell for it and was wrapped up in the main character; I fell right into their trap. The good news is that it was not a misdirect at all, and after seeing the combat trailer at gamescom ONL followed by a live demo of the same section of the game, I officially have something to back up my hype. Sitting down in a dark theatre setup, a team member behind WARLOCK: Dungeons & Dragons played through the section of the game we saw in the trailer, while another narrated what we were seeing, explaining a bit more about the combat, opportunities we may come across, and the world of WARLOCK: Dungeons & Dragons. They started with the amazing cutscene between Kaatri, the character we play, and Tasha, voiced by Maggie Robertson. I ... Read moreRead full article on CGMagazine (Dayna Eileen)
"I'm still blown away by the amount of talent": Hellblade devs Ninja Theory face closure after Microsoft fail to reach a deal with buyers
Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that they were trying to sell UK-based Hellblade creators Ninja Theory as part of their steady efforts to siphon larger, shinier doubloons from the Xbox gaming business by laying off thousands of people. Today, they are proposing to close Ninja Theory, having ultimately failed to reach an agreement with buyers, though they're still holding out hope of a happier outcome. The news comes as part of the latest round of Microsoft cuts, which have seen Xbox lay off 268 people and merge several of their best-known studios. Read moreRead full article on Rock, Paper, Shotgun
Bungie decide their destiny is to do more Destiny after all, pledging to bring back vaulted Destiny 2 campaigns while declaring that Marathon "needs to evolve"
Not long after announcing changes to how they'll handle majorly updating Marathon going forwards, Bungie have reversed course on their decision to stop developing Destiny 2 - a move they followed with layoffs. PUBG: DED.NET Is An Unapologetic, 90s Inspired “Remix Of What PUBG Could Be”
Unveiled during Opening Night Live 2026, PUBG: DED.NET is not a game mode coming to the PUBG battle royale experience many are familiar with, but is instead an entirely new experience altogether. This new game, then, promises to combine shooter gameplay with roguelite progress across runs, all set in a world inspired by the works of auteurs such as David Lynch and David Cronenberg. To understand more about the makings of and inspirations behind PUBG: DED.NET, during gamescom 2026, I sat down to speak with PUBG creative director Dave Curd: Hello and thank you so much for having me! How do you go from PUBG to PUBG: DED.NET? How did you get here as a studio? Dave Curd: I was tasked by my boss with spreading the good word of PUBG with non-believers. So, we are almost a 10-year-old game: we’ve got millions of fans and we’re very fortunate. But, the game’s not for everybody, you know? So, you start looking at the automotive industry, weirdly. Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy
gamescom 2026: Why Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Marks A Shift In Focus
New gaming IPs are few and far between, but Bordeaux-based Asobo Studio struck gold in 2019 with the release of action-adventure stealth game A Plague Tale: Innocence. The game, which follows the story of siblings Amicia and Hugo as they flee the Black Plague as it spreads across mid-14th-century France, was a critical and commercial success. Moreover, in 2022, Asobo followed Innocence with a sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, which continues the story of Amicia and Hugo. Like its predecessor, Requiem proved to also be a success, receiving five nominations at The Game Awards 2022, including Game of the Year, and surpassing 3 million players by October 2023. For the third title in what has now become the Plague Tale franchise, however, Asobo Studio wanted to do something different. And so, this year saw the release of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy—an action-oriented prequel that follows sea captain Sophia, years before she comes to the aid of the siblings in Requiem. ... Romancing SaGa 3 Remake Announced By Square Enix, Launches in February 2027
Square Enix is set to have a busy start to next year, as yet another remake joins the company’s 2027 lineup. Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, a full-blown remake, is set to launch on February 16, 2027, for all modern systems. Announced during the latest Nintendo Direct, this new version of Romancing SaGa 3 looks to be in the exact same vein as the Romancing SaGa 2 remake that released back in 2024, updating the game with 3D graphics, fully voiced cutscenes, and overhauled combat systems and more. Even the aesthetic and art style look remarkably similar. You can see the first trailer below. Watch the video Romancing SaGa 3 first released on the Super Famicom in 1995, and carried on the series’ legacy of robust player choice while revamping the magic system, adding a wealth of minigames, and focusing on eight distinct protagonists.
