Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the data, prices, and features on GeekyAlien.

Where does the game data come from?

Game metadata, prices, screenshots, and reviews come from the official, public Steam Web API. We don't scrape the Steam store pages themselves — everything shown here traces back to that API.

Why does the price shown here sometimes differ from Steam?

Prices are snapshotted, not real-time. We take a daily snapshot rather than querying Steam on every page view, so a sale that starts or ends mid-day, a regional price change, or a currency fluctuation can leave our number briefly out of sync with the live Steam store. Always confirm the price on Steam itself before buying — that's also why every game links straight to its Steam store page.

How often is the catalog updated?

The plan is daily: a scheduled job re-pulls prices, discounts, and any changed metadata from the Steam Web API once a day, so price history stays meaningful. That automated daily pipeline (ETL) isn't running yet at this stage of the project — until it is, catalog data reflects whenever it was last imported, and this answer will be updated once daily runs are live.

What does the "AI-generated content" label mean?

Some descriptive text and article content on the site is drafted with the help of a local AI model rather than written from scratch by a person. Anywhere that's the case, it's clearly labeled — we review that content before publishing rather than posting it unchecked, but the label tells you it started as AI output.

Why isn't a game I'm looking for in the catalog?

The catalog is built by importing from Steam's game list in batches, so it isn't a 1:1 mirror of the entire Steam store yet — some titles simply haven't been imported. Delisted, region-restricted, or non-game Steam entries (software, DLC-only listings) may also be excluded on purpose. If you think a game is missing by mistake, let us know on the contact page and we'll check.

How does the watchlist work?

It doesn't exist yet — a watchlist for tracking games and getting notified about price drops is planned but not built. We'd rather say that plainly than describe a feature you can't actually use. This answer will be replaced with real instructions once it ships.

Do you use affiliate links?

Not yet. When "Buy" or "Compare prices" links start earning us a commission, they'll be clearly marked and affiliate status will never influence how a game is ranked, rated, or described — see the full Affiliate Disclosure for the legal detail.

I found wrong data on a game — how do I report it?

Use the "Report an issue" link on that game's page if it's available, or email contact@geekyalien.uk with the game name or a link to its page. That's the fastest way to get a record checked against Steam and corrected.

Didn't find your answer?

Email contact@geekyalien.uk or see the contact page. This FAQ grows from questions people actually ask, so a real email is what gets a new entry added here.
