Delve into Outcast Tales, an indie RPG from Hardlane Studio where you assemble a squad, engage in tactical battles, and shape your unique story through tough decisions.
About this game

Be tactical (or mash buttons; might work just as well)!
Robots, mutants, desert raiders: almost all enemies have something up their sleeve. So do your characters: some abilities are most effective in combination with others. Find your opponents' weaknesses, humiliate them on the battlefield, and never ponder the moral implications of your actions!
Use your strengths (if you can find any)!
Combine class and personality types to give each of your characters a unique set of abilities. A Preacher Mercenary and an Antihero Mercenary will behave quite differently. Create a balanced crew, or just try out the wildest combinations to see how they turn out!
Overcome challenges (or mess everything up)!
Your characters will encounter dozens of unique situations that test their skill and wits. The Pacifist might talk his way out of trouble, the Egghead might try setting up traps, and the Daredevil will most likely just start blasting! In Outcast Tales, there are no wrong answers.
Develop relationships (like in a dating game, but not quite)!
Your characters can develop deep bonds or even fall in love - but can also come to despise each other, all depending on your actions. Your journey can become a wholesome story about newfound friendship, or a gruesome tale of three strangers constantly at each other’s throats. Whatever sounds more fun…
Let the chat join the action (or, more realistically, set you up)!
Connect the game to your Twitch account so that your viewers can influence the gameplay! The Twitch Integration feature will enable your chat to make crucial decisions during events, as well as choose your next destination or ability upgrade. And don't worry, your viewers won't ever try to harm you. They love you. Right..?

Outcast Tales will be free
As in, completely free. No-strings-attached free. No microtransactions, no dark patterns, no catch. This is a game we wanted to make so very much: a funny story-driven roguelite with hard tactical battles where characters would occasionally act out. We poured a lot of work into it, and we love the result. We want you to play it And we don't want a price tag to stand between the game and the people who might enjoy it. These days, games and other media get banned or disappear, AAAAA-games receive AAAAA price tags, exclusives limit reach, and more and more of what we enjoy gets locked behind one service or another. Connecting with others through the things we love can be harder than it should be. So we're making it easier It also feels fitting. After all, Outcast Tales is a story about a bunch of people trying to get out of poverty. We suspect the Hound, Technomancer, Savage, and the rest would approve of making some fun in this world free (unless any of them has the Antihero personality, of course). By the way, Inner Pocket is fully behind us on this. They're publishing a game that won't make them a cent, because they believe this is the right thing to do. We get it, though. When you hear "free", you expect a catch You've seen games that stay free right up until the store screen loads, or the battle pass shows up. This isn't that. No store. No currency you buy with real money. No Season 12 anything. Just the whole game, from day one. So please grab our game when it launches and have fun with it. This is all we ever wanted to bring to this world: fun. Translate Outcast Tales with us! The initial release will support two languages: English and Russian. Speak another one? You could be the reason it ends up in the game. Fill out this form, and we'll set you up to join the translation crew: https://forms.gle/SBDrQW2ELxeZ1C8y5 Contributing translators will be included in the game's credits as a thank-you for their time and support. Anyway, don't wander too far. Follow Outca...Read full article on Community Announcements (Pangolin)AnnouncementsOfficial
Outcast Tales demo is out now!
This demo isn't the prologue. It's much larger. Think of it as the full experience, just cut in half. Playtime's roughly doubled: seven new bosses, four times the encounters. And yes, there's a new ending waiting for you on the other side of the desert. We also added a new mechanic. As you travel, every character can unlock one of two secret abilities tied to their class. The whole crew's still here, but the Alchemist we're saving for the full release. And don’t worry about progress! You will be able to carry over your saves from the demo to the main game and continue where you left off. Also, Twitch integration is in, tested, and working well! Outcast Tales is a game where characters don't always follow commands. But when they do... imagine if those orders came from chat? Vote in real time on what happens next, from in-game events to which wasteland the streamer heads to. Chatters can even end up in the game as mobs. Got a favorite streamer? Go poke them about it. So don't wander too far. Follow Outcast Tales on Steam, play the demo, and stay tuned for more news (very soon).Read full article on Community Announcements (Pangolin)AnnouncementsOfficial
Outcast Tales isn't dead!
Greetings, misfits! It has been a while. More than 2 years, in fact. It hasn't; it was just stuck in a bit of a release limbo, which is now over. So, good news: we are alive. Better news: and fully ready to go. And we finally have something important to share: Outcast Tales has a new publisher. Meet Inner Pocket! What does this mean for the game? For now, it means our tale continues. We will have more exciting announcements to share with you very soon, and after such a long silence, there is quite a bit to talk about. So don’t wander too far. Fallen Graces
Greetings, Misfits! We know it’s a bit frustrating to see these dark silhouettes under the available characters. https://i.imgur.com/oWXrmRl.png Who are they? What do they do? Why do they do what they do? These are the questions we aim to delve into with this devlog to ease the everlasting itch of seeing unavailable content. Meet the future outcasts! Their past was full of tales, yet now they have nobody but themselves. And even though the remains of society does not care for them, they struggled enough to acquire skills needed for life in the wasteland. These are the people who could save you or mug you. Maybe even both at the same time. Mercenary (Support + Elimination) Ex-guard at Vapor Wave Inc, carrying heavy armor and a Vapor Wave Inc Gun (all rights reserved), capable of both destroying enemies and giving shields to party members. Also his corporate background may get you out of certain situations without making use of brute force. https://i.imgur.com/gBarlYB.png His past? Morally dubious. His character? Complicated. His motivation? That would be a spoiler. His biggest strength is scaling his power with almost every buff — be it shield, armor or ability power. And he can also buff himself! And his teammates! Sounds overpowered? Well, no. Given a couple of levels, he can carry his team through the fight, but early in the campaign (and perhaps further, if you make poor choices) Mercenary has to depend heavily on his teammates before his potential is fully unlocked. This guy benefits from being your favorite and getting the best upgrades and gear. Refresh Ability: Vapor Wave Inc. The Other Tales
Greetings, Misfits! The release of Outcast Tales is getting closer. We hope the game provides plenty of fun for everyone, with many hours of content to take a crack at. But don’t just sit on your hands simply replaying The First Journey over and over in anticipation, as we will be releasing an update to The First Journey, so you might want to wait before jumping into adventure with fresh eyes. How about you play or watch something else for now instead? And that’s why we’re here today. Together, we are going to take a look at media with obvious similarities to Outcast Tales; some of it might’ve even inspired us in some ways! Hopefully, these stories will tide you over while you’re biting your nails off in wait for the game. Death Road to Canada (2016) It’s a zombie apocalypse and only your dim-witted friends can save you! Explore the cute and quirky side of post-civilizational mayhem, ward off zombies with a bunch of random items, and survive while ransacking locations for fuel and resources. https://i.imgur.com/fSNaYxB.png https://i.imgur.com/fLyucEx.png The idea of a team of unique characters going on a large, semi-randomized adventure definitely was a big inspiration for the general progression of Outcast Tales. We really wanted our game to have tons of items, unique events, and character interactions that make every playthrough feel different. And yet, even with all the carnage going on, each new run still manages to tell a unique story and create a fun memory. The big highlight for us were the car rides in-between the action locations: each one sets up some sort of a unique scenario and mini-story, lets the player do a meaningful choice that changes the outcome of their playthrough or affects their resources, and also acts as a springboard for character dialogue and fun banter. Having these episodes accomplish multiple goals at the same time while keeping things brisk and breezy is something we definitely learned from for our Campfire sections. https://i.imgur.c...Read full article on Community Announcements (memester)
