    Dressmaker August Tea

Dearest Dressmakers, I have heard jaded rumblings and whispered YouTube comments about how our launch date is 21 September “unless there are delays”. Indeed, if Dressmaker were to delay its launch date, it would not be the first game to do so.But a reliable source tells me that not only will the game's launch date be met, but that the game is already content complete. The credits have been compiled, the ending sequence completed, even open source licenses included and Steam achievement icons painted, with the remaining time being spent on fixing bugs, working on post-launch content, conducting interviews, sneakily adding previously-cut ideas, and writing in-world newsletters on Steam. One developer was even heard saying, “Look, probably nobody even noticed it was broken, but I know, and if enough of these stack up the game feels unpolished.” Fixing bugs that playtesters didn't notice? This is, quite frankly, shocking, and a lavish expenditure of valuable dev time.Speaking of dev time, it’s struck me that you may not know much about the dev team itself. If you'll indulge me, I'd like to familiarise you with them! There are only three full-time developers, but they have a combined experience of almost 40 years:Jonathan is the game’s original creator and does a bit of everything from art and programming to social media. He spends an unreasonable amount of time ranting about big tech companies.Ruan is the game’s main programmer. He is also a game designer, now works entirely in Linux, and is the accidental founder of the playtesters’ Cube cult religion special interest group. He kindly reminds you to include your save file when making bug reports.Sara is the artist who’s made pretty much all of the game’s dress pieces, and most of the fabrics and accessories. She’s also painted a number of backgrounds and UI, and is unable to resist a good pun (and, quite frankly, even a bad one).Sabrina’s love for clothing is what inspired Jonathan to make the game. When her health all...

Dressmaker July Tea: Launch Date Announcement

Dearest Dressmakers,A little pigeon has notified me that our niche indie game now has over 200,000 wishlists! The little pigeon also told me that we finally have a launch date: 21 September 2026!The pigeon couldn't keep its beak shut, and also says that content creators who wish to sign up for an early build to make content under embargo can do so here.Sadly the pigeon was caught and caged before it could reveal any more juicy secrets. But we do have some exciting things to show you! The front desk has gotten a makeover to make it brighter, more open and more colourful. The upside-down 福 character continues to be intentional. We're continuing to work on various UI to try and make the new player experience easier to understand. The ideal is for the UI itself to be intuitive so that tutorializing everything isn't as necessary, especially in case you take a break from the game and forget how to play. And of course, most importantly, we've been continuing to add new dress patterns, fabrics and accessories. And there's no better way to show them off than with player-made dresses! Here are some dresses made by blueisasome, Ser Wobbles the Wobbly, DannyMothHere, MothIn30Seconds, CoffeeClearwingMoth, nanda, and Wilt and Eli (the last being a 2 person collab). With the launch of the game less than eight weeks away(!), we think we're in a good spot, but we also feel as if we're planning a wedding. We have the date, the venue, we've organised catering and decor, the dresses, and the invites have been sent, with a number of RSVPs received. Everything seems to be well-planned and in place. And yet... is there something we've forgotten? A backup officiant? Will we need someone to throw out drunk Uncle Larry? Can we get a backup bride?Yours faithfully,The Dressmaker Team

    Dressmaker Just Hit 100k Wishlists!

Dearest Dressmakers,When we first pitched Dressmaker, we were told that the game may be "too niche", that we shouldn't expect much, that we might struggle to find our audience. Well, it is with lifted pinkies, feigned modesty, and the politest smile that we say, "Why yes, we did surpass 100,000 wishlists. How nice of you to notice!"But we most certainly could not have done it alone. We're very grateful to all of the players who took the time to leave detailed comments on the prototype, offered feedback and suggestions and shared screenshots of their dresses! It was your joy and enthusiasm that convinced the holders of purse-strings to give the game the green light. We've grown into a wonderful community of dressmakers sharing their designs on Discord, both from the prototype and the playtest, and also their real-life projects! It's a place where kindness is queen, creativity is in abundance, and the Cube is Law. (It's an in-joke, you had to be there.) Heavens, if this is what niche looks like, then we politely decline joining the mainstream. If you would like to follow our development progress, chat directly with the team, or even apply to become a playtester yourself, we would love to welcome you into our Discord! And if you want to see how our game grows until launch, find design inspiration, or just help us spread the word, you can find us on Instagram and TikTok!We can't wait to show you what we have in store...Yours faithfully,The Dressmaker (a very niche game) Team

    Dressmaker May Tea

Dearest Dressmakers,Exciting news! We've been accepted into the June 2026 edition of Wholesome Direct! Tune in on the 6th of June to watch a newly cut trailer showing sneak peaks of some new features, new characters, and a launch date announcement!Otherwise, we've been adding loads more content to the game and refining a lot of the UI. We want the UI to be playful as well as functional, and one of the things that was sorely in need of rework was the fabric inventory. The fabric preview more accurately shows highlights, which is especially important in silk and velvet! We also only show the full name of the fabric when you mouse over it so that you can see more of the fabric itself. Here's a before and after shot:We've been working on a feature where you can create your own dresses to sell off the rack. This means you can take a break from making the more specific commissions for clients to instead make your own custom dresses to sell, or save up for an extra elaborate dress! We've also been refining our character art, with 9 of our 10 planned characters illustrated. If you've played the prototype you may recognise two of them, but here's a first look at a third one! Each character has their own sense of fashion, and a suitably over-the-top personality to go with them! And, of course, we've been making loads of new dress pieces and fabrics! And what better way to show them off than with a small sample of the incredible dresses that our Discord playtesters have been creating this past month! These dresses were made by playtesters in our Discord community: Eli (two dresses), andando, Irina Elina (three dresses), RoseNoire, OuchPotatoes, RandomXiwi and Mortis. We've put a pause on new playtest signups while we work on the unlock progression and tutorials, so that we can find out whether these work well for fresh, new players. If you join our Discord server you'll be the first to know when playtest signups re-open.Until next time,The Dressmaker Team
