About this game

Dead Cells is a roguelite, metroidvania inspired, action-platformer. You'll explore a sprawling, ever-changing castle... assuming you’re able to fight your way past its keepers in 2D souls-lite combat. No checkpoints. Kill, die, learn, repeat.

Dead Cells puts you in control of a failed alchemic experiment trying to figure out what's happening on a sprawling, ever-changing and seemingly cursed Island. Immortal but crippled, your last resort is to take over bodies in order to move, explore… and fight.

While you may well be immortal, the corpses you possess are not. Each time your host is destroyed, you will be sent back to the dungeon to find yourself a new one and start again...

Experience a Roguevania, mixing an interconnected world, branching paths and unlockable skills with the constant adrenaline-pumping threat of permadeath. No checkpoints. You either vanquish the final boss in one go or you try again. However, you keep some of your progress for successive runs new paths you’ve unlocked, access to new levels, mutations, abilities and weapons.

Tough but fair combat, responsive controls, challenging foes, and of course, the emergency panic roll to get you out of trouble make for a visceral and cathartic action game.

Dead Cells studio thanks Guillermo del Toro for playing its game, gently suggests he try the easy mode

In a July 29 IGN interview, prolific director Guillermo del Toro shared his love of the hardcore action-roguelike, Dead Cells, but lamented its difficulty, wishing there was a mode that eased up on the roguelike restarts. Dead Cells studio Motion Twin has since responded to IGN, and recommends del Toro try the easy mode it's already got in there... Read more.

Guillermo del Toro is asking for a slightly more forgiving Dead Cells, checkpoints and all, 'for the elderly players'

I drip-feed roguelikes into my gaming schedule: one too many total resets and my brain could break beyond repair. I always knew this wasn't an unusual approach but I didn't ever think it would be an opinion I'd share with one of my favourite filmmakers, Guillermo del Toro. But the world is a strange place... Dead Cells Stability Patch: Less Null Access, More Monster Slaying.

Hello everyone! It’s been a hot minute… okay, a looooong minute… since last time. We’ve been closely tracking your reports, so we're stepping in today to squash the most disruptive bugs weighing down your runs. While our team is currently head-down cooking up the next Windblown Early Access update (launching later this month 🔥), we wanted to ensure our Dead Cells gang gets the love and care you deserve. This Steam patch focuses strictly on game stability, and we're actively working on dedicated console patches as we speak! Please find the full breakdown below: Crash Fixes ● Fixed the most common crash when starting the game by adding memory alignment checks to prevent data serialization issues on 32-bit systems. ● Fixed a null access crash when selecting Dracula's boss cell in Custom Mode while using a fixed number of activated boss cells. ● Fixed an issue where Wolf Trap failed to destroy both traps simultaneously, leading to subsequent null access errors down the line. ● Fixed a null access crash that occurred if the inventory was re-arranged mid-attack while using the Flint or Bone. ● Fixed narrative-driven crashes by adding stability null checks to the Doom Bringer speechdeck. ● Added internal cooldowns to most item-pickup and inventory management UIs. This prevents "can't replace weapon/active" racing conditions, closing out potential exploits and related game crashes. Localization ● Regenerated texture sheets for Asian fonts to properly display previously missing glyphs and characters. Linux-only ● Fixed controller issues on Linux by upgrading the SDL library to 2.32.10. Thank you all for your incredible involvement and for continuing to share your feedback with us. Go enjoy those crash-free runs, see you next time! 💌 Cheers, Bidju & everyone at MT Community Highlight {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/27850661/7ece025fce1deea55120048dbe037b1b77bf93a6.jpg @nagurama_
