Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 16 August 2026 (draft)

GeekyAlien is a small, actively-developed project. We're aiming for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA, but we haven't done a full audit yet and won't claim conformance we haven't verified. This page describes honestly what's been checked, what's still in progress, and how to tell us if something doesn't work for you.

What we've checked

Colour contrast for text has been calculated using the W3C relative-luminance contrast formula for every text/background pair actually used on the site — white text at 40–85% opacity on our dark background (#291E3F) and on the semi-transparent purple card background (brand-purple/40). The worst case we found is white/50 on a card, at a 4.56:1 ratio; every other pair measured between 4.93:1 and 11.5:1. All of those clear the 4.5:1 threshold WCAG AA requires for normal text. The one exception is white/40 (3.67:1), which we only use for large or bold text, where the AA threshold is a lower 3:1 — it is not used for small body text.

That check was done by calculation, not yet cross-checked with a browser tool such as Chrome DevTools' contrast checker. We treat the calculated numbers as a first pass, not a final sign-off.

What's still in progress

  • An independent, tool-based re-check of the same contrast pairs (as a second opinion on the calculation above).
  • Full keyboard navigation through catalog filters and the category menu.
  • Alt text for game screenshots and cover art — some can be pulled from Steam's own app data, the rest still need to be written or generated.
  • ARIA markup for interactive components: the search autocomplete, the filter panel, and the screenshot gallery.

None of this is done yet. We'd rather list it here as a known gap than leave it unmentioned.

What we're not claiming

We are not claiming full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance today. This statement will be updated as each item above is completed and re-checked, not before.

Reporting an accessibility problem

If you hit a barrier using this site — something you can't reach with a keyboard, text that's hard to read, a screen reader that gets confused — please tell us. Email contact@geekyalien.uk with what page you were on and what happened. We read every report and use them to prioritise this list.
