Embark on a quest to explore the treacherous depths of Underkeep as you assemble your party and delve into a fantasy world filled with danger and mystery, all crafted by indie developer Rake in Grass.
About this game
DESCEND. EXPLORE. SURVIVE.
Underkeep is a loving tribute to the role-playing classics of the 90s with turn-based combat and grid-based movement, bringing the best of old-school dungeon crawlers to the modern era.
Underkeep brings back the spirit of classic dungeon crawlers: grid movement, slow tension and tactical combat. At the same time it plays clean and responsive thanks to modern controls, clear visuals and thoughtful conveniences that remove the old frustrations without losing the heart.
Gather your party, venture into hand-built dungeons, speak with peculiar locals, discover hidden passages, solve ancient puzzles and face encounters where planning matters as much as courage.
FORGED PARTY
Pick four adventurers whose strengths and flaws define how you survive. Synergy is everything: a good team deepens your strategy, a bad one seals your grave.

LIVING DUNGEONS
Every corridor is handmade, every room hides intent. Expect strange rituals, lingering spirits, abandoned camps, cryptic symbols and choices that echo deeper than you expect.
TACTICAL COMBAT
Turn-based battles reward those who plan, control space and manage stamina & mana wisely. The bold are rewarded. The careless are punished.
HIDDEN SECRETS
Hidden alcoves, fake walls, optional bosses and puzzles that fit the world instead of breaking immersion.

MODERN COMFORT
Smooth controls and clear feedback preserve the flow of exploration without sacrificing tension.
PERSONAL MAP
A built-in automap with custom markers keeps track of mysteries, locked doors and places you swear you’ll return to later.

Every step is a story. Every descent a decision. Underkeep awaits.

The Road to Release
We have some exciting news.Underkeep is now playable from beginning to end.The only bad news? For now, only we get to play it.Every major area, dungeon, and story chapter is now in place. While plenty of polishing remains, the entire adventure can finally be played from start to finish. That also means internal beta testing has officially begun. We spend our days doing things that are far less exciting... but absolutely necessary.Finding bugs.Fixing bugs.Creating new bugs while fixing the old ones. Along the way we're also balancing combat, adjusting encounters, fixing typos... and occasionally throwing fish at monsters. What Is Still Left Before Release? There is still plenty of work ahead.finishing the intro and ending sequencescompleting the remaining environmental assetswriting the last remaining dialoguesbalancing all difficulty settingsSteam achievementsLocalizationslots and lots of polishingMost of our work now consists of dozens of small improvements. They may seem invisible, but together they're what turns a game from "finished" into "ready."No More Major FeaturesFeature development is officially over. Not because we ran out of ideas, quite the opposite. Our design document still contains well over one hundred ideas we'd love to build. But every game reaches a point where it has to stop growing. Otherwise it never gets finished. Many of those ideas may still appear in future updates. And who knows...Maybe some will find their way into a sequel one day.LocalizationWe currently plan to launch with:EnglishCzechGermanRussianPolishFrenchPlease note that this is our current plan rather than a final promise. Some languages may change depending on translation progress and available resources.Additional languages may follow after release depending on community support. As with our previous games, we'd love to build these translations together with the community.Underkeep contains a huge amount of text, so we'll almost certainly need more volunteers. We'll share details in a de...Read full article on Community Announcements (sirrobbo)AnnouncementsOfficial
Closer to the Depths
We Are Getting There. Almost. We are slowly approaching the point where we can finally talk about a release date. Not just yet. But we are getting closer. A Lot Has Changed Since the DemoSince Next Fest, Underkeep has grown quite a bit. Not only in content, but also in atmosphere, systems, encounters, and overall identity. Some parts of the game became darker. Some stranger. Some things are better left beneath the surface. We’ve been expanding the later parts of the game world, including Underkeep Tower, Swamp, Dungeon ruins, Forgotten gardens, and several larger story encounters. The Mushroom questline from the demo is now part of the full game, altough slightly altered. If you are not familiar with it yet, let’s just say the mushrooms have some... questionable ideas about family.Combat, Classes, and ProgressionThe Paladin is fully happening, including Zeal-based resource system. We have added race traits to bring more variety to party creation. At the moment, we are not planning direct trait selection, though this may become an option in the future.Ravens are finally beginning to shine with their mutations, and some of them are genuinely absurd. The main purpose of mutations is simply to be fun and unpredictable, so we understand they may occasionally upset dedicated min-maxers. In that case... Ravens may simply not be the right race for you. We still love them.We continue adding more special encounter options and outcomes. Until now, these choices were usually beneficial, but you can no longer assume they are always the safest or “correct” option. We have added three difficulty settings that can be changed during the game. These primarily change combat difficulty. We hope this allows both newcomers and challenge seekers to enjoy the game their own way.Polish. Then More Polish.A huge amount of development time has gone into things many of you pointed out after the demo. You can look forward to:UI improvementsmore sound effectsmuch better combat readabilityclearer damage fe...Read full article on Community Announcements (sirrobbo)AnnouncementsOfficial
Underkeep - News From the Depths
Once again, thank you to everyone who played the demo during Steam Next Fest and took the time to share your thoughts. The feedback, bug reports, balance suggestions, and discussions on the forums have been incredibly helpful.Of course, not every suggestion can make it into the final game, but your feedback helps us clearly see which topics matter most to the community. Here is a short summary of the most frequently asked questions.LocalizationWe will announce the officially supported languages closer to the release date. For additional languages, we would like to explore community collaboration. If everything goes well, this should allow more languages to be added after release.Release DateWe do not have a specific release date yet.We prefer to announce it only once we are confident the game is ready. However, 2026 remains our target release window. What We’re Working OnNew Character PortraitsOur artist clearly caught a surge of inspiration, the latest portraits speak for themselves. AlchemyWe now have an alchemy system.Under the hood, it’s fairly complex, but our goal is to keep the interface simple and intuitive. Most importantly, we don’t want alchemy to feel mandatory, it should be easy to use and naturally fit into your playstyle. Alongside that, we’ve added several new potions for a variety of situations, giving players more tools to adapt to different situations. Some Other Changes You Might Find InterestingThe Paladin is definitely coming to the game. Skills and mechanics are still in progress, but we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by his resource system, it works quite differently from traditional stamina or mana-based classes.Staves now have long reach, so a mage without mana won’t just stand by while others handle the fight. The Blood Mage and Thief are already shaping up to unleash chaos among enemies. The Blood Mage in particular stands out with the ability to cast spells using the bones of fallen enemies.Teleportation gates are now functional across ...Read full article on Community Announcements (sirrobbo)Community & EventsOfficial
Steam Next Fest Is Live - Thank You
First of all, thank you.The demo may be short, but the impact of your feedback is not.The amount of suggestions, bug reports, and thoughtful discussions over the last week has exceeded our expectations.Being compared to legends like Eye of the Beholder or Lands of Lore means a lot to us, and it certainly raises the bar. We’ll do our best to meet it.We’ve read almost everything (truly), and we’ve taken notes. Here’s a small preview of what is already being improved or confirmed for the full version:Confirmed ImprovementsMore character portraits + custom namesImproved turning animation (already updated, including optional movement animation!)Clearer tutorial flow (yes, the breakable crates caught many of you)Difficulty settingsSave system improvementsCustom key bindings and further controller refinementsImproved UI clarity and overall readabilityOptional toggles for many effects such as screen shake, party impact sounds, tooltip delays etc.Hi-res encounter images (images in the demo already updated)Many additional suggestions have been added to our internal list for future updates, especially visual polish and broader design improvements.LocalizationWe want localization. Underkeep contains a large amount of dialogue and text, so proper translation is a significant undertaking. We won’t promise specific languages or timelines yet. When the time comes, closer to release, we may reach out to the community. We’ll share more details in one of the upcoming updates as we get closer to release.Thank you again for being part of this early stage and for the energy you’ve brought into this festival.Enjoy Steam Next Fest, discover new worlds, and support fellow indie creators.2026 is shaping up to be a strong year for RPG fans! The Rake in Grass TeamRead full article on Community Announcements (sirrobbo)AnnouncementsOfficial
