About this game
Drown World combines grid-based mining with a pixel-perfect elemental simulation. Dig for resources, upgrade equipment at your airship, and carve your way through a volatile underground world in search of long-lost dwarven relics as waves of rain flood the tunnels you leave behind.
Dig: Delve too greedily and too deep! Collect resources amongst natural hazards — oil, lava, fire, flammable gas, acid and more. Skilled players will use the environment against itself.
When it rains, it pours: Rain doesn't just fall — it finds every tunnel you've carved. Manage rising floodwater, navigate shifting weather conditions, and never dig yourself into a corner you can't escape.
Elemental Simulation: Every pixel behaves. Water flows, lava spreads, gas ignites, acid eats through rock. Experiment, discover interactions, and learn to weaponise the underground against itself.
Two Ways to Descend: Story Mode eases you in stage by stage, saving progress and introducing new elements gradually. Descent Mode strings those stages together into one relentless run.
Your Airship, Your Arsenal: Return to the surface to upgrade your equipment, unlock new tools, and prepare for whatever the underground throws at you next.
The World is Never the Same: Fully procedurally generated levels mean every run brings new layouts, new hazards, and new ways to die.

Couch Co-op!
Couch Co-op + Lots MoreHey everyone! So, like an absolute mad lad, I've decided to add local co-op during Next Fest.It was simply too much fun not to include. You can now play the entire demo with up to 4 players, and co-op will also be supported throughout the full story and Descent Mode in the full release. There are still some balancing issues and quality-of-life features I'd like to add. For simplicity, only Player 1 can currently navigate menus, and I've intentionally avoided split-screen. If either of those are features you'd like to see, let me know.Upgrades and Dwarven Tech unlocks are shared across the whole team, so everyone benefits when something new is unlocked.Grab a Friend (or Three)Couch co-op has arrived.Up to 4 players can explore the cave together on a single screen, working as a team to gather resources, survive rising water, and make increasingly questionable decisions involving TNT.New co-op lobby system with player slots, skins, and ready-up support.Stay together across levels once a session begins.Individual nameplates, HUDs, and character skins for every player.Dynamic shared camera that zooms out to keep the group in frame.Off-screen markers help you track teammates at all times.Downed players can be revived, carried, or dragged to safety.Individual headlamps and fog-of-war reveal the cave as your team explores.A Visual OverhaulWe've continued replacing placeholder assets throughout the game and refining Drown World's overall presentation. A huge thank you to the artist Rocky for this. As well as Oli for helping with UX. New logo and branding.New world map landmasses and biome artwork.Improved terrain shapes and environmental readability.Updated drill visuals and animations.Jetpack effects now react to upgrade tiers and player movement. Most placeholder AI-generated artwork has now been removed. The remaining element icons are planned to be replaced before full release.New Toys, New ProblemsThe cave has become a little more chaotic.TNT now prod...Read full article on Community Announcements (Meat Lab)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo Update
Visual PolishRefreshed landmass artwork across the game. All upgrades now have unique icons, making them easier to identify at a glance. The drill now visually upgrades as it becomes more powerful, matching the new upgrade progression. Added proper visuals for diagonal drilling.Jetpack exhaust effects now better reflect your movement speed and direction.Added a new button selection animation throughout the UI.Fuel ReworkRunning out of fuel no longer causes an instant game over. Instead, players will rapidly lose health until they can return to the Airship and refuel. The old system was often confusing and unforgiving, while the new one better communicates what went wrong and gives players a chance to recover.Added an out-of-fuel warning that directs players to refuel at the Airship.Fixed an issue where fuel could be depleted while on the main menu.Quality of LifeAdded corner forgiveness to make tunnelling more precise and reduce accidental block destruction. Previously, players returning to the surface could accidentally clip the edge of a block and break it, often causing unwanted flooding or damage to their tunnel. Corners are now more forgiving, allowing players to brush past them without accidentally mining blocks.Skills & UpgradesNew Dwarven Tech: First Aid. A new skill tree focused on restoring health.Upgrade names have been simplified to make them easier to understand at a glance.Dash has been reworked: Tier 1 now destroys any block, including resources, while Tier 2 can break through up to 2 blocks.Airship Crusher's unlock cost has been reduced, making it a more attractive early investment.Improved TutorialisationAdded new visual prompts to help players understand that multiple resources can be carried before returning to the Airship.Early-game guidance has been improved to better direct new players towards digging underground.TNT is now introduced later, making the core digging mechanics easier to learn and understand.Tutorial hints have been updated with lar...Read full article on Community Announcements (Meat Lab)
