Embark on a stealthy mission to infiltrate and plunder the base of a spam cult, turning the tables by stealing back what they've taken. Experience precise movements and strategic planning as you navigate through Turscar Isle's challenges.

About this game

The Word of Turscar. A deluded cult, seeking to overthrow the global order of the Internet and replace it with mandatory clicking on scams in the name of their god of deceit, Turscar. Why they haven't been wiped out is a mystery, but nobody is going to object to you sneaking onto their island and stealing everything they haven't nailed down.

Well, except maybe the spammers themselves. But who cares about them?

Lurk

Stick to the shadows, take your time, and don't get caught.

Use decoys, flashbangs and throwing knives to buy yourself an edge over the cultists, or simply wait until they walk past to stab them in the back.

A red-robed cultist walks in the distance, while the player crouches next to a crate

Loot

Steal everything that isn't nailed down. Then come back and steal the nails.

Find notes with keycodes, hack their servers, and delve into the darkest corners to find everything they've stashed away, stolen from their victims. Robin Hood would approve.

Launder your plunder by upgrading your equipment.

The player leans around a server and starts to hack it

Leave

You decide when to pull out. If you wish to explore further for more loot, or pull out earlier? That's your choice!

There may even be more than one way out, if you can find it.

A sewer entrance/exit in the side of a mountain.

No generative AI used in this. And no, the old-fashioned text-to-speech engine used to voice most of the deranged bots doesn't count.

    1.0.1 - Windowed Mode

Nothing major, but I've added windowed mode as an option for the game. I also relabelled the "Controls" button in the main menu and pause menu to "Options" to make it more obvious what it does.

Demo update: Irish localisation and more

Aligning the demo with the playtest, which will be extended until Easter.Irish LocalisationWhy Irish? Bhuel, ba mhaith liom í níos minice a labhair…agus toisc gur é “turscar” an Gaeilge do “spam”!Turscar is the Irish for spam, repurposing a word for “rotten seaweed”, and I’d like to start using Irish more. It also gives me a way to test the localisation work I’d already done (i.e. no hard-coded strings) for future work. While I did run everything through An Gramadóir’s online checker, there might be some mistakes. I’m more concerned with getting the UI correct than anything else, and I’m not going to bother with localising grafiti or voice lines because EVERYONE knows that ENGLISH R TEH TRUU SPEAKAGE OF TEH INTERNETZ!!!1!!No-gear levelNot in the demo itself, but the main game will have an additional starting position. You’ll be starting as one of the spammers’ kidnapping victims, escaping the island. No gear, no ability to fight back - just pure stealth.I have adjusted some sectors to go with this, which will be visible in the demo.Other changesBig Head Mode can be turned on! There’s a hidden switch somewhere in the main level. Why? Because it’s funny!Hacking doors and servers have sounds now. Purely atmospheric, but it helps. When swapping sectors, the player will now face forwards in the new sector. Honestly, I should have done that ages ago!

    Updated demo, playtest end looming

I've added some changes to both the demo and playtest.New unitThe Hoverbot is the Turscarites' primary assault bot, boasting a tear gas cannon and an ominous mask intended to strike fear into those who would block the worship of Turscar! You can't damage them. Yet. I might add EMP grenades as an unlockable option to replace the flashbangs. They're mostly present on the surface of the island, so I've added a lift from there to the mech bay/guardhouse.Bots can use locked doorsIf they have clearance, that is. Initiates do not, and certain other NPCs have higher levels. None of them drop keycards, but instead they internally use a chip to monitor and restrict access.I've added more doors throughout the main level, some of which are locked.Lighting/detectionBanners and teleporters will now provide detection when player is standing next to them. Should've done that ages ago!Security Camera interactionsInstead of having a 3-second rotation time, they now rotate through a maximum angle. I've also adjusted some placements, along with adding more. They also detect the player more quickly now, and make noises when alerted. You can disable them across the entire map via a terminal in one sector. Doing so will spawn an alert.Bug fixes and QOLDead bots will no longer come back to life if a sector is alerted. Even if this is funny. When changing sector, you now face forward.Playtest end-of-lifeI'm converting the playtest to open, but closing it entirely on the 31st of March. If you haven't tried it, please do so and let me know what you think!
