Venture into treacherous underground realms where each step risks collapsing your path. Navigate Crawl To The Depths, an intense first-person roguelite adventure by Efficacious Software Ltd., released in 2026.

About this game

Crawl to the Depths is a first-person roguelite where you adventure through destructible caverns. You use the environment to gain an advantage in fast-paced combat, and modify your playstyle by upgrading your equipment on a journey into a forgotten underworld.

  • Encounter strange creatures, criminal gangs, mercenaries and untold horrors in fast paced first-person combat.

  • Explore mineshafts, caverns, underground jungles, and bandit hideouts.

  • Shoot loose rocks to cause cave-ins that crush enemies, anger nests of exploding "gophers", or shoot unstable crystals that explode into cluster bombs.

  • Carve your own way through the caves by taking advantage of fully destructible terrain, and build bridges and structures to avoid environmental hazards.

  • Mine for ores and gather useful materials scattered throughout the caverns to upgrade your equipment.

  • The game features a unique upgrade system where you can combine different materials together to create unique weapon combinations. Add spikes to a bat, craft a deadly steel shotgun, or upgrade your pickaxe to mine harder minerals.

  • Sacrifice gold at altars to unlock magic spells. Whirl your enemies away in a tornado, shoot a barrage of fireballs, or dash yourself out of danger.

1.3 Update is Here!Movement Overhaul, Better Temples, More Details.Hello Everyone! This is a massive update this time, loads of new content has been added. There's overhauled movement mechanics, new blocks, overhauled temples, and grapple hooks! You can also now actually crawl in the game called "Crawl to the Depths". About time! Why didn't I call the game "Call to the Depths" by the way, isn't that a lot cooler sounding? I have no idea. Beats me. Oh well, can't change it now!Anyway, onto the patch notes!Patch NotesGameplayOverhauled temple area to contain connected rooms instead of a flat grid.Added "Interact" Key (F). Interacting with certain objects now requires you to interact with it instead of bumping into it.Added grappling mechanic. Hold right click with your pickaxe to swing about!Overhauled crouching mechanic (Shift). It's a lot less jank now, you can now walk alongside ledges and bridge with ease!Added crawling mechanic (Control) allowing you to crawl into 1x1 tunnels. Yes, you can truly "Crawl to the Depths" now. Added ability to swim / climb.Rebound green ability to xNew vines, ladders, cacti, shrub, and grass blocks.Added hanging vines in level 2Updated tutorial to cover new movement mechanicsVisualsUpdated fog in level 1Overhauled Foliage (New 2D Billboard Design)Improved ability pickup designBug FixesFixed a bug where you could collide with projectiles after they landed Fixed a bug where projectiles would move when pausedRemoved "Hero Brian"This will probably (probably) be the last major update for the demo that I release, I think from this point onwards I will be focusing on releasing the full game.

    Demo 1.2.0 Patch Notes

Hi all,Thank you to everyone who's played the demo so far and helped with reporting any issues that you have encountered. This update is aimed to fix those issues as well as doing a lot of reworking to the game's balance which I promised in the last update.Patch NotesBalance ChangesI have completely overhauled a the games balance to make the game a little easier and more forgiving to the player.Damage falloff now works correctly and is a lot less severe, the revolver damage for example is a lot more consistent at longer ranges nowThe HP of all the enemies has been completely reworked. Overall the enemies should now be slightly less tanky than they were beforeAdded back settings such as difficulty levels which were not there before due to a bug. I would love to see someone complete the demo on Bedrock difficulty!Added a flashing warning to remind you to heal when on low health Made fall damage more forgiving, you can now survive great falls with a sliver of HP left as long as you aren't low on health alreadyAdded peaceful mode settingBug FixesFixed a critical problem on Mac where loading any level would crash the game to desktop. This is fine because nobody played the game on Mac The game should show up on the correct screen if playing with two monitors now Re-added window mode settingFixed a bug where the game would warn you about skipping the tutorial when clicking the tutorial button Husks no longer spawn at the entrance to the first level Mineshafts no longer can generate into the temple in level 1Redundant upgrades (upgrades which are a downgrade in every aspect) do not appear in the upgrades menu anymore

Update demo1.1.0 is here with an overhauled tutorial!

Demo1.1.0 - Tutorial OverhaulHello everyone!Since the demo launched I have been hard at work on fixing bugs and making quality of life improvements. New content might slow down for a bit after this update because I am moving houses at the moment but I should be able to get back to work on the demo soon. Steam allows you to hook up some stats to games to see roughly where people were getting stuck and/or dying, and I found that a majority of people were getting stuck or quitting at the tutorial. Only a third of people completed it, and many people died in the first level with only 10% of people finishing level 1. I think the big issue was that the tutorial was both too long and had some flaws that some people were getting stuck on. So in response I have improved or completely remade the most problematic areas. Its now much more interesting, has way less filler at the start, and should do a better job at introducing the player to the game. Its also a lot prettier with the house set inside a canyon instead of boring flat sand. Even if you've done it already I recommend you check out the new starting area! I also wasn't very happy with the writing, so I redid it all to both get to the point quicker and hopefully be less of a snooze fest. With all of this combined I hope it will represent the game much better than the old tutorial had done. The next thing I want to tackle after that is balancing to reduce the difficulty curve, which will come in a future update.Anyway, I hope you find the changes enjoyable!Patch NotesPatch notesThe tutorial has been completely reworked:New starting areaRewrote introduction section to be a lot shorter and removed the unnecessary intro dialogueLetters and tooltips are more helpful and informative and redid a lot of the writingAdded TV (Stay tuned)Made it clearer when you are out of bounds on the surface area with red sandAdded more letters to findFixed a bug with the player having less health than they're supposed to in the tutorialAdded a...
