About this game

8 STATIONS LIE BETWEEN YOU AND VALTARIA

A rogue wormhole brought you here. The only way back is to crawl station to station through a realm fueled by desperation and scarcity. The wormhole's exit awaits at the epicenter of turmoil.

COMBAT TICKS WITHOUT A TIMER

ENERGY DRAINS WHEN YOU:

  • Move

  • Take damage

  • Overheat Weapons

  • Zoom out

  • Use certain gear

TO GAIN IT BACK:

  • Eliminate Enemies

BOXED-IN OUTER SPACE

No "return to battlefield" text or empty map generation.  Tight asteroid clusters and weird mega structures completely surround you, forcing close quarters combat in a true space dungeon.

PIXEL DOGFIGHTS THAT FEEL REAL

  • Weaponize temperature to lash out heat seeking attacks, slip by enemy flares, or go dark to heat trackers.

  • Out maneuver targets to strike undetected while keeping your own head on a swivel.

  • Use gravity to pull and repel enemies, curve lasers, move gear and shift projectiles on the battlefield.

  • Finesse energy to get the most out of guns, gear and movement because combat is a dance that can’t last forever.

WISHLIST TO STAY IN ORBIT

It’s easy to get lost in space. Wishlist Devoid to receive important intel regarding development.

    V6.2

Devoid V6.2 is here! This update adds the ability to go back in time, do a short one station run, scan gear and more! More gear in the space dungeon Dark MatterExotic MatterBullet InflatorBackup GeneratorFlamethrower - thx Nabil. Low key forgot I added this to the game. It is now in drop tables. Time Twister - We still need to add it so it resets the shop. Will get to this. We didn't want to delay the update. Other than that it works great… I think. We expect this to be abused. You will now also automatically scan gear as you pass over it: Sprint game modeIt's been in the game since the last update. Forgot to mention it. This is a new game mode where the full run is just one station to the next. A good way to practice a difficult boss, hunt cosmetics, and pursue leaderboards (which we plan on adding globally in the future)Better layout for 2 player split screen We re-arranged how the HUD looks for 2 player split screen for a more readable look. LagWe went through and optimized some graphics and code for a smoother experience. Guess separate GPU particle emitters on a bullet isn't a good idea... We will continue to work on this throughout development Misc:Boss Shield reworked. Small visual issue with the ship frame being damaged. Functionality wise it works. Will continue to build this out. Boss 4 doesn't clip through the wall anymore. Long story short the arena used to be much larger, and I forgot to tighten its navigation region. Invincibility frame duration was increased for the player to prevent cheap deaths. We were featured on the Game Dev Campfire! Ethan had some very good questions for us. In the video we get into the how’s and why’s behind our game Devoid. That's all for now. Good luck out there in the space dungeon! Until next time,Charlie & Jakub

    V6.1 - The Cosmetic Update

V6.1 is here!BIG news for the divas of the space dungeon. We released the cosmetic update today! And that's not all… We built you a space stationRemember when we said we were building a space station in my garage? Well a few of you wanted to go but couldn't. So we cut the main menu and turned it into a living breathing space station hub!Check it out: A long term vision would be to add more on-foot gameplay. A potential long run stretch goal. “R” to Restart Big thank you to LemonBoi for suggesting a quick restart. If you press and hold R during a run it will restart it for you. Boss ShieldThe Pirate Captain was supposed to be a dangerous force in the space dungeon... but crumbled quickly when facing a better opponent. Didn't expect a runaway build to be that big of an issue. But clearly, the pirates have no grit. So we gifted the Captain a sweet shield system to protect against hotshots breezing through. Shoutout to Nabil for the feedback on this one. CosmeticsThere are currently 6 ways to style. And let me tell ya, the Goblins are jealousss:BodyPaintBoostTintBullet FrameNote: Not everything drops in game yet. We will continue to add cosmetics to drop tables of new enemies as the game grows. Throughout development we will add more ship bodies. We have 18 left just chilling in the reserves. You know what… I think we will put up a vote in the discord and let you decide which one comes next. So stay tuned. That's it. Back to the lab for Jakub and I. We will begin production on the next region shortly. Time to lay down some pixels. And BLAST SOME ALIENS! Until next time, Charlie & Jakub

V6 is here! And we're building a space station in my garage!

You heard that right. In parallel with making the game, we've been working on a space station in my garage. Shoutout to This orThat for the help putting it together. This is real btw:We also got our crew thanks to a few brave volunteers from the community. And thank you to those who were not local but threw their hat in the mix. You have our respect. We will be preparing for takeoff shortly. Now because time acts strange in space you might not get our outer space transmission for a bit. But trust me, it will be worth the wait. Alright back to the game. Introducing the Sightless Snowfields:This new level adds new enemies including our 2nd major boss. Again we wont share everything cuz that's no fun. But we wanted to highlight the Ice Harvester. This enemy was influenced by legendary pilot Signal. He pointed out Devoid’s lack of enemies that indirectly attack. So we added one. The harvester’s eyes will swell red, bursting cannonballs of energy in every direction. One of my fav additions for sure. Also speaking of Signal, check out his past weekly score. This is insane:PS. We added an updating date label to the game over screen for V6 too. This did not happen on April 10th lol.New items in the space dungeon: -Magnet-Bullet Recycler We have a backlog containing a bunch of gear concepts. So when we get the chance we will make more. We also have the feature request in the Devoid discord too. So if you want something custom, let us know.Quality of LifeWe added a TON of quality of life stuff. I've been losing sleep over how subpar our onboarding process was. So we revamped the tutorial. Cut the tutor system. Yup, that's right. We cut it because the tutorial covers everything you need now without any dialogue. Quick thank you to Jordan for the feedback regarding the tutorial and the suggestion to add settings such as screen res. He is also a game dev. Click here to check out his Dice game on Steam. Now I think you guys are going to be as hyped as we are about this. We upgrad...

    Devoid V5.2 - Pilot Onboarding

DEVOID V5.2 IS HERE!We realized the onboarding flow for the space dungeon was leaving some pilots confused. So, we overhauled the tutorial. Not a single line of dialogue in it. (Besides at the dock if we’re counting that). On a similar note, we revamped the tutor. It's less invasive. And the notifs should now pop up at the right moments. We will continue to refine this.Fixed a few miscellaneous bugs, including map barriers not having physics (notably near the outpost on level 3) Re-centered the HUD so weapons / items are back in one place. Thanks for the feedback on that Nabil.Denarii (Devoid’s currency) was switched to just “$”. Way more intuitive.Rarity was cut. Less bloat to scan through item descriptions. Our other time was spent working on new content for the next part of the dungeon. Not sure when we will begin unveiling details. I will say I'm pretty hyped on how the visuals are turning out.If you have any thoughts about the update, Devoid or even gamedev don’t hesitate to leave a comment. We want to make the space dungeon an unforgettable experience and we deeply care about your feedback.Want to embark? Check out our open playtest over at the Devoid Steam page.Until next time,Charlie & Jakub

    Monsters & Gear - V5.1 is here!

We just pushed live a new update! It adds new items and enemies, and introduces a number of quality of life enhancements for both the casual and hardcore crowd. 4 NEW ENEMIES IN THE SPACE DUNGEON Pirate CorsairPirate MarauderIce BatDry Ice BatITEMS & INSPECT ACTIONA ton of new items. I mean… There were so many added we can’t even keep track. The good news is you can now inspect gear. So if you forgot what something does, inspect it to learn more about it. This feature was suggested by a few members in the game's discord community. LESS INVASIVE ARCHIVIST The tutor system was tweaked and re-worked to help new players more, and forget the pilots who know the drill. Forget hotbar controls? Press “T” (the tutor action) to open up a list of action reminders. COCKPIT OVERHAULWith the rising importance of temperature throughout gameplay, it made sense to incorporate a thermometer into your shuttle's HUD setup. Now you’ll have a better idea of what temps you’re running at. XP and denarii got relegated to the top right. And gear equips along with energy shifted central, which is where your eyes will typically be looking. WHATS NEXT?We'll continue to expand the space dungeon. Production on level 4 has begun! We have an open playtest up on the Steam page, and don't forget to wishlist Devoid to stay in orbit. Until next time,Luminous Bits
