Navigate the harsh realities of a dystopian world in echo//shredd, a co-op survival horror game where every piece of scrap counts. Join up to three friends or play solo to gather resources and upgrade your gear against relentless threats.

About this game

You and your crew are 'Echos,' remotely operated humanoid clones sent to scavenge abandoned stations and industrial zones. Your mission: collect valuable scrap, return to your train, and shred it to extract valuable metals. But be careful. More than an omnipresent gigacorporation is watching your steps.

AKAMORI ENTERPRISE welcomes you to your first shift!

  • Team up with friends or brave the stations alone.

  • Find loot, shred it, and get paid – all while trying to survive.

  • Communication is key – warn your friends of danger, or leave them behind.

  • Includes Proximity Voice Chat

  • Use your environment, hide in shadows, and stay quiet. Noise attracts… things.

  • You are fragile. Stealth, timing, and instinct are your best defense.

  • Use gadgets to increase your chances for survival.

  • Be careful where you go. Every step might be your last.

  • The deeper you go, the more you realize: some things cannot be stopped.

  • Each station is procedurally generated, with shifting layouts and unpredictable dangers.

  • No two missions are the same.

  • The "things" waiting for you will adapt. What worked last time might be useless now.

  • Your only refuge is the train.

  • Use the shredded materials and corporate credits for upgrades and gadgets.

  • Power up your train, unlock tools, and deploy cunning defense mechanisms.

  • Devices for navigation help you scavenge the most profitable areas.

  • Repair damages to keep the train running.

You are an Echo. You are property. You are replaceable. Do your job, follow protocol, and don’t ask questions.

Your shift begins now. The train won’t wait – and neither will they.

The ECHO SPACE, Train Upgrades, Scanner Mechanics, Funding - April Update

Dear Akamori Enterprise Employees,We're progressing fast and we're progressing good. This post covers the achievements of April 2026 - and I gotta say: I'm quite proud of how things are taking shape. Let's dive in!Entering the ECHO SPACEEver since the core mechanics of the game were set, the travelling times between the stations felt long, empty and essentially boring. This changes now. When starting the train ride, the train essentially teleports to a new in-between location called the ECHO SPACE. The purpose of this area is to give the players some room to breathe, calm their senses, and prepare for the next expedition. And yes, maybe even enjoy the peace for a glimpse. From a technical standpoint this approach also comes with great benefits for the games performance. We're no longer generating endless tunnels and the stations we're arriving at are not placed at the end of those tunnels anymore. This allows the game to use some of the engines features to treat level objects statically, which enhances the render time and effectively boost framerate and stability. Visual improvements on Train Upgrades One of the essential parts of the game is improving and upgrading the train as you progress. The old system was rather "simplistic" I'd say - simply clicking a button and the upgrade is done. The greatest problem was the missing feedback on that upgrade. Playtesters didn't seem to understand if an upgrade was unlocked or not.To improve the readability and the feeling of these upgrades, this system received an entire overhaul. Here is how it looks:This system is not entirely finished yet. I'm planning to add some short preview clips for every upgrade on the bottom right corner of the screen, so that players can really see what the upgrade is changing in the train.Scanning the environmentSo far it was a rather tedious job to find out which items in the game world are actually interactable and which are not. That usually involved having experience or going right next to th...

March Update - Ragdolls, Multiplayer Mode, New Content and new Game Mechanics

Dear Akamori Enterprise Employees,In this News-Post I'd like to adress the development progress of the last two months. February and March have been an exceptionally busy time, which is why this post took a bit more time to cook.Multiplayer Mode is almost finishedAnd by "almost" I mean its technically completely finished. The only things missing right now can be considered to be optional, and at the same time necessary for a modern gaming experience. The features that I'm talking about here are Proximity Voice Chat, a fully-fledged Lobby-System, Quality-of-Life features (such as Emotes like dancing and waving etc. etc.) and a few things down the line. Speaking of which: The All-New Spectator-Mode is now finished as well! As soon as you lose your echo during a mission, you're switching over to a 3rd Person spectator mode to see what your still surviving Team-Mates are up to. The plan is to also separate the Proximity Voice Chat Channels between alive echos and un-alived echos in order to make it impossible to warn others about how you deceased. Here is a first glimpse of how it looks right now (UI is very WIP):Sacrificing Iron CoffinsAnother thing that made great progress is the sacrificial ritual of the Iron Coffins. A lot of work went into creating the machinery for that job. The short gif I'm showing you here isn't really living up to the idea of delivering the whole feeling - but I'd still like to show at least a part of what you can expect. Ragdolls! To make inevitable death more fun I added ragdolls into the game. The death blow usually decides which direction your character gets thrown to - the rest "just happens".Small winsThe rest of advancements I made the last couple of weeks aren't "big" per se, but they're still contributing to improving the game and in general working on the project. One example is procedural hand animations for generic Items. As you might know the game has a few Items that require hand-crafted animations because of their dynamic nature. ...

January Update - Multiplayer Progression, Main Character finished!

Dear Akamori Enterprise Employees,The year has begun - and as promised, major improvements to echo//shredd are rolling out across the board. Buckle up!The Echoes are aliveIn the last development update, you caught a glimpse of a work-in-progress version of the main character. After several adjustments and extensive texturing work, the character is now complete - or at least the first iteration is!Take a look:I aimed for a bold, worn, and dirty look - something that feels heavily used - while still conveying a futuristic yet fragile presence. The Echoes are constantly hunted in this world, and they are not designed to fight back. That vulnerability needed to be visible at a glance. This iteration of the Echos is likely to remain for quite some time, though only time will tell. As promised, multiple helmet variants will be available to unlock in-game. Their implementation isn’t scheduled yet, but they are firmly part of the plan.Multiplayer Development making solid improvementsMultiplayer development has made significant progress over the past weeks. A wide range of core systems are now properly synchronized, including interactive objects, shredder states, and door logic. Numerous inventory-related issues were resolved along the way - most notably several long-standing duplication bugs. The most critical breakthrough, however, was fixing the client disconnection issue that occurred during destination travel. This problem was particularly stubborn due to some contradictory game states between the clients, but it’s now resolved, allowing players to transition between locations without breaking the session. There’s still plenty left to tackle, but momentum is strong. The next focus areas are dungeon generation stability, item placement logic, and ensuring the gameplay loop remains fully synchronized and consistent for all players.MULTIPLAYER PLAYTESTING COMING SOON TOO!Wrap-Up and upcoming plansThe foundation is steadily taking shape, and while much of the recent work has b...

    December 2025 - Development Update

Dear Akamori Enterprise Employees,The year is almost over - and with this short news announcement, I’d like to share what happened in December and what to expect next year. So please, as this post will be fairly short, there’s no need to prepare a cup of coffee.Multiplayer DevelopmentAs announced in the last update, multiplayer development is currently in full swing. Unsurprisingly, it comes with a fair share of unexpected hurdles. Like in basically every multiplayer game, players expect to see their fellow teammates in-game - moving around, jumping, running from monsters, using voice chat, and shredding stuff. The fundamentals of this are already working. However, the game also requires some rather unconventional mechanics, which demand additional research and development time.To give a brief overview: players should be able to join locally hosted servers before the game starts. The host can then start the session for all connected players. While the game is running, players should also be able to connect, leave, and rejoin at any time - primarily to handle disconnects gracefully. This requires the game loop to be split into multiple stages, each with its own networking rules and responsibilities. Without going too deep into technical details: this is a substantial amount of work, and it requires extensive testing and validation. The Face of the echoesUp until now, the “main character” consisted of little more than a pair of hands floating in front of a camera. For a pure first-person singleplayer experience, this works surprisingly well. For multiplayer, however, displaying your teammates as disembodied hands drifting through the environment is… less ideal. This is why we need a proper 3D character - complete with animations, textures, and an identity. The character is currently in active development. It’s not finished yet, but I’d like to show you a small sneak peek. The goal is to create a look that fits the environment. The echoes explore cold, desolate places and ar...

    The Iron Church

Dear employees of Akamori Enterprise,November is almost over and I'd like to take this opportunity to inform you about the most recent developments around echo//shredd. There is some exciting stuff going on, so fasten your Akamori Enterprise-provided seatbelts! A First Glimpse at the Iron ChurchA new destination is rising: the Iron Church. This is where the Iron Coffins will ultimately be delivered, and although the structure is still very much a work in progress, the first visuals already set a chilling tone. The atmosphere around the site carries a quiet sense of ceremony - one that hints at something older, stranger, and far more deliberate than it initially appears. Whatever happens behind those towering steel arches feels less like processing and more like… something being accepted.Revamped Train Terminal InterfaceThe Train Terminal has undergone a complete visual and functional overhaul. The interface now reads cleaner, looks sharper, and feels far more satisfying to operate. Every interaction has a clearer identity, making navigation and decision-making faster and more intuitive.Huge Performance Gains Across the BoardRecent internal testing has shown dramatic improvements to performance. Scenes previously locked around 40–50 FPS (on actually pretty beefy development machines) now run at over 150 FPS on 4K/Ultra settings. The experience is now noticeably smoother, especially in larger, more complex areas. Also the feedback from the community was soothing on that performance boost, so there's almost no doubt echo//shredd will run good on toaster PC's. Enemies With TeethHostiles have been reworked into something far more dangerous. Instead of drifting aimlessly, they now react, pursue, and pressure players with much greater aggression. They also learned the ability to react to audio cues in their environment. Loud noises, talking players, or even the tiniest footstep might turn nearby hostiles curious about whats around the corner. Their behavior is still evolvi...
