    VF5 R.E.V.O. World Stage Producer Letter #19

Hello everyone, Seiji Aoki here, Producer of the Legacy Virtua Fighter Project. Last month, I mentioned that we were working toward our next update, and I'm happy to say it's almost ready. We're putting the finishing touches on it and once we lock in the release date, we'll share it on our official website and social channels. This update includes bug fixes based on reports we've received from players, and the addition of Arabic and Hindi language support across all platforms. It's always exciting to welcome more players into the Virtua Fighter community, and I hope players in those regions feel the same. I've seen a lot of feedback on Discord and social media as well. So, thank you to everyone who's been sharing their thoughts with us. One thing that’s come up quite a bit is online battle settings, so we're making some adjustments there as well. Previously this was set to auto only, but we’ve now added a "Forced Relay" option. You’ll be able to select between "Auto" and "Forced Relay" depending on your individual connection environment. We're also continuing work on bringing Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage to XBOX PC and the content and features will match the versions available on other platforms. I also want to announce that the game will be available on Game Pass starting September 10th, so please stay tuned for more information. On the tournament side, I'd like to give a big congratulations to Mashman, who defeated fierce competition at “CEO 2026” in Orlando, Florida as part of the Virtua Fighter Open Championship 2026. It was great to watch such high-level matches throughout the weekend and another spot earned in the VF Special Event! I'd also like to congratulate GNS | Laufares, who secured a Special Event invitation at RAGNAROK 2026 in Argentina. This event was especially meaningful because it marked our first official Virtua Fighter tournament in South America. Seeing players, organizers, and fans come together for that moment was something I'll remem...

    Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage — Producer’s Letter #18

Hey everyone, Aoki here, producer of the Legacy VIRTUA FIGHTER Project. For this month's letter, I wanted to share a few fun stories from behind the scenes of our stage development, but first I wanted to share a quick update. Our team is hard at work on the next update for all platforms. We're not quite ready to share the details yet, but I'll have more to talk about in next month's Producer Letter. Thanks for sticking with us a little longer! Now for the stories. On Akira's stage, Statues, you'll find a hanging scroll with the kanji character "無" (Mu), which can be translated as "nothingness." The thing is, its inclusion goes back to when Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown was made available for free through PlayStation Plus. During development, a designer asked me, "What character should we put here?" My response was, "Why not use '無' as a nod to '無料' (muryo), meaning 'free'?" Everyone liked the idea, and it ended up making its way into the final stage. There's another little hidden story on Taka-Arashi's stage, Sumo Ring. Around the ring, you'll see banners inspired by traditional sumo nobori, which usually display the names of wrestlers. When the team asked what names we should use, I jokingly suggested we create playful versions of our staff members' names as placeholders. The result turned out so good that we decided to keep them in the game! If you're curious, try comparing the banners to the staff credits and see if you can figure out who inspired each one. And no, before you ask, my name isn't on any of them (lol) I'd also like to congratulate DFM | Itabashi Zangief, who fought through an incredibly tough bracket to win Battle Arena Melbourne 16, the fourth qualifying event of the Virtua Fighter Open Championship 2026 and earn a place at the Special Event. Congratulations as well to NeonKay64 and Rayne, who secured their Special Event invitations at our fifth qualifying event, VSFighting XIV in Birmingham, UK. Next up is CEO 2026 in Orlando, Florida for the...

    "VF5 R.E.V.O. World Stage" Producer Letter #17

Hey everyone, Aoki here, producer of the Legacy VIRTUA FIGHTER Project.  On June 18, we rolled out an update for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage (Ver.1.11). This patch fixes an issue where the game failed to launch if two or more players were registered on the system’s block list, along with a crash that could happen when matching against players using multiple Switch 2 consoles. Updates for other platforms are on the way as well and we appreciate your patience while we get them ready. Next, I want to talk about a change we made in Ver.1.10: Combo damage scaling no longer being applied to downed opponents. Since this gets a bit technical, I want to break it down for you. In Ver.1.10, we adjusted how combo scaling works when a player chooses not to tech roll after being knocked down. In previous versions, just staying down instead of tech rolling was often the safest, most reliable option. That’s because it came with a few key advantages: Damage remained low since combo scaling still applied to ground follow-ups (OTG / on the ground hits). Players could avoid aggressive setups designed to catch tech rolls (aka “tech traps”). Overall, the risk was pretty low. The downside, though, was that this created a meta where not tech rolling became the go-to choice way too often, which slowed down matches and hurt the pacing overall. This adjustment was made specifically to address that situation. With this change, there will be more situations where OTGs are unscaled, increasing the risk of staying down. So, while we want to encourage players to tech roll more often, the goal isn’t to remove that tactic entirely. It should still be a viable option in the mind games of battle when used intentionally. On top of that, the game already has plenty of moves that can relaunch or pick up a downed opponent. Because of that, we think this opens up even more room for players to experiment, whether that’s discovering new combos or calling out an oppo...

    "VF5 R.E.V.O. World Stage” Producer Letter #15

Hey everyone, This is Seiji Aoki, producer of the Legacy Virtua Fighter Project. First, Id like to thank you for the incredible support. We’ve been thrilled to see players around the world jumping into the Nintendo Switch™ 2 version of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, Update Ver. 1.10 and the demos on each platform. The response has been fantastic, and the entire development team is truly grateful. As you know, we love to hear your feedback as it plays a huge role in how we shape Virtua Fighter’s evolution, so please continue to share your thoughts with us and join the conversation on our official Discord if you haven’t already, to let us know what you think. That said, with Ver. 1.10, we made some major changes to the game’s stagger system, and I’d like to provide some insight into why. Stagger has been part of Virtua Fighter since the very beginning, dating back to the arcade era when the game was designed primarily for lever‑based arcade sticks. Even when VF5 first came to consoles, many players were still using arcade sticks, so the system stayed largely the same. Over time, especially as the esports scene has evolved, we’ve seen a big shift in how people play. More players now use gamepads and leverless controllers, which led to noticeable differences in how stagger felt depending on your setup. Arcade stick users generally recovered from stagger more easily, while pad players often had a harder time, especially online. We also heard feedback about the physical noise of rapid stick inputs during recovery, which could be frustrating for players playing at home. Last year, we held the first global Virtua Fighter Open Championship, and during that period it wasn’t easy to make frequent balance changes. Even though we’d been discussing possible updates to stagger for a while, we held off until the tournament wrapped up. With VFOC now complete, we felt this was the right moment to make meaningful adjustments, which led to the current stagger reduction. These c...
