    Devlog Part-8

Hello everyone!Time keeps moving forward, and so does the project. Slowly, but steadily, The Flat continues to take shape. Some members of the team had to ease off for a while and return to their day-to-day responsibilities, while the rest focused on selected parts of the game. In short — the reality of a small indie studio.Even so, despite the slower pace and the challenges that come with it, The Flat keeps moving forward.So...NEW LEVEL (LET'S STEP OUTSIDE)Work on the new level has been underway for quite some time now, and with each passing week its final shape becomes clearer. Alongside the familiar tight corridors typical of corporate architecture, we've decided to introduce a more open environment. It differs from the locations we've shown before, featuring a more dreamlike atmosphere and a somewhat more complex gameplay structure.Everything—from the new rooms to additional environmental elements and details—helps build the unique atmosphere of The Flat's world. While we're not quite ready to show everything yet, we hope to share a more substantial update on this location soon.ANIMATIONS AND EFFECTS AS PART OF THE WORLDAt the same time, we're continuing to develop the game's visual layer. New animations are being created, along with additional effects tied to Enon’s reactions when taking damage. These may seem like small details that often go unnoticed, but they have a significant impact on how the gameplay feels.Well-crafted animations help support the game's storytelling while making the world of The Flat feel more alive, immersive, and engaging. As part of this concept, an essential element of the world is the introduction of its independent inhabitants. So, meet Julian. He is CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP and CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP, as well as CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP, while also being both CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP and CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP, all at the same time possessing CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP.VFX AND POLISHING THE DETAILSBut what w...

    Devlog Part 7

Hey everyone!A lot has happened since the last devlog. Things are slowly picking up pace, both inside and outside the project. The past few weeks have been a mix of intense work, experiments, improvements, and our first real interactions with you. But let’s go step by step:FROM FOUNDATIONS TO PROGRESSSome parts of development required going back to the fundamentals, especially in the area of animation. In several cases, we had to approach things in a more “traditional” way, polishing elements that had previously seemed finished. As a result, we expanded the tech art side of the project and created level design documentation. At the same time, we’re testing new tools while solving some very annoying technical issues along the way.The outcome is a solid foundation that we can continue building upon. These may not be particularly spectacular things, but without them, nothing would work properly.MINIGAME One of the bigger elements we’re currently working on is the minigame related to Enon.At first, it was just a loose concept, but now it already has its own animations combining 2D elements with gameplay. It’s also undergoing its first tests on both laptops and mobile devices.Even though we’re still in the iteration phase, the direction of the minigame’s development is already clearly defined. As for its release it will happen in CORPO CORPORATION CENSORSHIP.ANIMATIONS & CHARACTERSAt the same time, we’re continuing to develop animations, including new movements for the main character and additional ASAP-MAN animations.Enon also received some improvements, including more responsive… uh… less fortunate moments of his existence. We're experimenting with their technical side to make sure everything works consistently both in the main game and in the minigame. WORLD BUILDINGThe world of The Flat continues to grow. Thanks to the solid foundation we built earlier, new elements are now being created much faster and more efficiently from nearly invisible details to entire game levels...

    Devlog notes - Part 5

Hey everyone, let’s get right into it without any unnecessary chit-chat.First thing, HUGE THANKS FOR 2,000 WISHLISTS!Many may think that it's not a lot, especially compared to AA/AAA studios, where those wishlist numbers are simply incomparable. For us 2000 is a lot and we did it pretty much without any marketing on our end. We achieved this through hard work and by occasionally participating in events. This is a huge step for us and of course a big motivator. So thank you, to the single one of you who added The Flat to the wishlist and follow us on our journey. Now, with that addressed, let’s move on to what was done on the project.Battery / Quest / PlacementYou might’ve already seen it on our Discord channel (this isn’t exactly shining new), but as we mentioned in the last updates, we skipped one month and now we are backtracking a bit.It looks like simple mechanics in a GIF, and it is pretty simple - pick it up, plug it in and something is on 😀 but there will go a lot more into finding the battery, carrying it back to a correct place and then knowing us, we will probably make it a little bit harder to enable whatever it enables. Maybe some puzzle? New “character” for the journeyI guess you can check the WIP model for now. Maybe you can figure out the differences between this guy and other Enons. I mean, it is quite visible right from the first look, but maybe you can find out something more about him.He is in the game already and he is not “just there”, I think it is safe to say that he left some mark and impression behind and it can be up to you to re-discover it. I don’t want to say too much, but it is really dope!Archive room polishMalaria still polishes the Archive Room, making it look a little bit “meaner”. Many other parts of the map are getting the same treatment and there is an active quest to make it look as good as possible. ASAP Man teleportIt is no secret that ASAP Man, which is one of the few main characters, has a role that hasn’t been shown as much...

    Devlog notes - Part 4

Welcome to another monthly update. Even though our last one was in April – we know we are late. We were always open about the fact that The Flat is being worked on besides our full time jobs and personal life and sometimes, there is just no time. But enough shit talking, let’s dive deep into what you missed XDOpening sceneWe are a bit obsessed with live level menus here and even though we do not have a main menu– just yet, we do have an opening scene. The idea is to make this whole thing reactive and interactive, but let’s leave this to your imagination now. Archive roomThe Flat is made out of mean looking places. Mean looking = not supposed to look like flowers and rainbows, but a dangerous and brutal environment, pretty much the one you would find working in a corporation XD Another location here created by Malaria is the Archive Room. As with everything we try to add, all will be serving a purpose. New deviceThe next new thing is 'the device' (not its official name). I would love to tell you as much as I can about it, but I think Malaria will kill me if I do. It's better not to spoil too many things — it'll be much more interesting and fun to let you experience this one for yourself! :)All is textured and ready to go. I hope to code everything once I have a bit more time. Mechanic table at workLast but not least is the mechanic table. It got some extra love and you can now see how it looks like with the full animation and in the level. All there is left to do is just to hook it all up in the code.On the closing noteIt's never easy to summarize everything that's going on in a project. However, we are making steady progress and are already shaping the release date. We have both been extremely busy, but we remain committed to The Flat and its development. The next step is to rework the code, adding props and optimization. We are working with an old codebase that I don't understand very well, and, to be honest, we are experiencing significant performance issues that ...
