Backlog genre breakdown calculator
See how your backlog hours split across genres, so you can spot if it's skewed toward one type of game.
This doesn't connect to your Steam library or the site's catalog — group your own backlog into genres (or any labels you like) and enter the hours yourself.
A game's hours can be split across more than one label if it genuinely spans multiple genres — the calculation just needs every entry to have a non-blank label and a non-negative number of hours, and the total to be more than zero.

Report an issue with this calculationWorked example
Say your backlog breaks down as 40 hours of RPGs, 20 hours of shooters, and 5 hours of puzzle games — 65 hours total. RPGs make up 40 ÷ 65 × 100 ≈ 61.5% of your backlog, more than shooters (≈30.8%) and puzzle games (≈7.7%) combined.
That kind of skew is exactly what this calculator is for — a backlog dominated by one genre might mean it's time to mix in something different, or it might just reflect what you genuinely enjoy. Either way, the split is easy to miss without adding it up.
FAQ
How do I enter my backlog?
One line per genre, with the label and hours separated by a colon or comma — e.g. "RPG: 40" or "RPG, 40".
Where do the genre labels come from?
You choose them yourself — this doesn't connect to the site's catalog or its genre list.
How is the percentage calculated?
Each genre's hours divided by the total hours across all genres you entered, as a percentage.
Can I use tags instead of genres?
Yes — the labels are free text, so use whatever grouping is useful to you, genres or tags.
What if I enter a negative number of hours?
That's rejected as invalid — every entry needs a non-negative number of hours.
Can a game appear in more than one genre bucket?
Yes — split its hours across genres yourself if it genuinely spans more than one, e.g. "RPG: 20" and "Strategy: 20" for the same game.
Does this look up my actual Steam backlog?
No — there's no account or library integration. You type in the breakdown yourself.
What if all my hours are in one genre?
It'll show as 100% for that genre — a valid, if lopsided, result.
Is there a limit to how many genres I can list?
No fixed limit — list as many lines as you like.
Does order matter?
No — genres are shown in the order you typed them, but the percentages don't depend on order.
