Backlog time calculator

Add up how long your backlog will take to finish, and how many weeks that means at your own pace.

This doesn't look up any game's completion time automatically — enter your own estimate for each game, from HowLongToBeat, memory, or a guess.

There's no account or Steam library integration behind this — you type in each estimate yourself, which is also why the calculator can't tell you how long any specific game actually takes. A negative entry anywhere in the list invalidates the whole total rather than being silently skipped, so a typo shows up as an error, not a wrong number.

The weeks-to-clear figure assumes a steady weekly play-time budget — if your actual free time varies a lot from week to week, a rough average across a typical month gives a more realistic estimate than your best or worst week.

Worked example

Let's say you have four games on your backlog. One takes about 30 hours, another needs around 45 hours, a third is quicker at 15 hours, and the last one clocks in at 8 hours. Adding those up gives a total of 98 hours. With 10 hours a week to spend on gaming, that's 98 ÷ 10 = 9.8 weeks to clear it all — shown exactly as that decimal, not rounded to a whole week.

Change the weekly budget and the estimate moves with it. At 15 hours a week instead, it's 98 ÷ 15 ≈ 6.5 weeks. With only 5 hours a week free, the same 98-hour backlog stretches out to 98 ÷ 5 = 19.6 weeks — nearly four times longer than at the 15-hour pace.

FAQ

Where do the hour estimates come from?

You enter them yourself — from HowLongToBeat, your own memory of similar games, or a rough guess. This calculator doesn't look up any game's completion time automatically.

Can I include a game I haven't started yet?

Yes — use your best estimate for how long it'll take, the same as any other entry.

What if I enter a negative number of hours?

A negative entry anywhere in the list makes the whole total invalid — you'll see an error rather than a partial sum.

Does this account for games I'll never finish?

No — it assumes every listed game gets fully completed at the hours you entered. If you plan to drop some early, leave them off the list or lower their estimate.

How is 'weeks to clear' calculated?

Total backlog hours divided by the hours per week you say you can play.

What if my weekly play time varies a lot?

Use a realistic average across a typical month rather than your best or worst week — the estimate is only as good as that number.

Can I enter 0 hours for a very short game?

Yes — 0 is accepted and simply adds nothing to the total.

Does this connect to my Steam library or backlog?

No — there's no account integration. You list the games and hours yourself.

Is there a limit to how many games I can list?

No fixed limit — list as many as you like, one per line or comma-separated.

Does the order I list games in matter?

No — the total and weeks estimate only depend on the sum of hours, not the order entered.
