Question 1

What is the layout of this keyboard?

Accepted Answer

This Corsair VANGUARD PRO 96 has a 96% layout, which means it omits some function keys and media controls found on full-size keyboards. This makes it more compact but still retains essential gaming functions like media keys and navigation.

Question 2

Are the switches compatible with other keyboards?

Accepted Answer

The MGX Hyperdrive switches in this keyboard are proprietary to Corsair and cannot be used interchangeably with switches from other brands or even other Corsair keyboards without specific adapters, which may not always be available.

Question 3

How does the polling rate of 8000Hz affect gameplay?

Accepted Answer

A 8000Hz polling rate means that the keyboard checks for key presses 8000 times per second. This extremely high rate ensures near-instantaneous response to button presses, which is crucial in fast-paced games where split-second reactions can make a difference.

Question 4

Can this keyboard be used with different gaming software?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the Virtual Stream Deck feature allows you to customize key functions and assign them to specific actions or macros within various gaming software. This flexibility makes it easier to tailor your keyboard setup for different games and playstyles.

Question 5

What is the SOCD Flashtap feature used for?

Accepted Answer

The SOCD (Single-Objective Control Device) Flashtap allows you to assign a single function to multiple keys, which can be particularly useful in complex gaming setups where you want to minimize key presses while maximizing efficiency. This feature enhances customization and can streamline your gameplay.

Question 6

Is this keyboard suitable for UK gamers?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely, the QWERTY UK layout is specifically designed for UK users, making it easy to type with familiar key placements. This layout ensures that all commonly used keys are in their standard positions, providing a comfortable and intuitive typing experience.

Question 7

Can I use this keyboard with my existing gaming setup?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the wired connection means you can plug it directly into your computer without needing any additional hardware like USB hubs or dongles. This makes integration straightforward, especially if you're already using other Corsair peripherals that support their proprietary software ecosystem.

Question 8

What kind of maintenance does this keyboard require?

Accepted Answer

Regular cleaning with a soft, dry cloth is recommended to keep the keys and switches functioning smoothly. Avoid using liquids or harsh chemicals as they can damage the keyboard. Corsair also provides guidelines for proper care in their documentation, which you should refer to for detailed instructions.

Question 9

How does this keyboard compare to other mechanical keyboards?

Accepted Answer

The MGX Hyperdrive switches offer a unique blend of tactile and actuation characteristics that differ from traditional mechanical switches like Cherry MX or Kailh. This makes the Corsair VANGUARD PRO 96 stand out in terms of feel and performance, offering a distinct gaming experience compared to more common switch types.

Question 10

What comes included with the keyboard?

Accepted Answer

The box includes the keyboard itself, a USB cable for connection, a quick start guide, and sometimes additional accessories like wrist rests or keycaps. Check the manufacturer’s listing for an exact breakdown of what is included in your specific purchase.
