About this game

SET IN THE WORLD OF GREMLINS, INC.

Welcome to the world of gremlins, the tiny creatures who love engineering as much as as they love money – a setting that's already familiar to the tabletop community from the award-winning digital board game Gremlins, Inc..

Greedy and malicious, these technocapitalists never stop planning and scheming. They are ready to lie, steal and outright attack their opponents as long as it helps them build their next big project.

EXECUTE A PLAN, WHILE STAYING OPEN FOR OPPORTUNITIES

With 6 cards in your hand and a deck of cards on the table, your goal is to earn the score by completing projects.

Execute a plan, while staying open for opportunities – if the right combination of action cards comes your way, or if your opponent disrupts your original blueprint.

DUELS IN SINGLE-PLAYER AND MULTIPLAYER MODES

When the game enters the Early Access period, it will be initially available in the duel mode – a human playing against the bot, or a human playing against another human. You can already play for score, for rounds, or for whatever comes first (a round limit, or a score goal).

As we continue to develop the project, we aim to add the opportunity to participate in sessions for more players – including team sessions.

PROVEN BY REAL-LIFE SESSIONS

Before we started to develop this game as a digital board game, it already existed as a real-life limited edition card game, which we premierred a few years ago at Gamescom. Since then, we've played over a hundred of sessions with different groups of people to fine-tune the concept. This digital version may be new, but the mechanics at its core are already tried and tested in real life, with great results.

JOIN A VIBRANT COMMUNITY

We release this game under the Early Access program. The game is already playable in its current state, but there are still things that we want to add (and features that we want to try).

Here on Steam Forums, as well as on the game's Discord server, we discuss the new mechanics and fine-tune the balance based on the feedback of the community. We aim to deliver a player experience that goes beyond the usual tabletop conversions. We invite you to join us on this mission to create a true digital board game!

    Version 224

Good morning, peoples – We just updated the game to version 224, here's a few things that changed: "LET'S GO!" ANNOUNCEMENT We felt that something was missing at the start of the session, once you finish with the mulligan stage and the first round is about to begin. At that moment, the prompt said "LET'S GO!", but it was too small to create any emotional connection. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/15ebad637630ac98c5a6e4bb76e157ef835f3c9b.jpg Now you will see a neon announcement pop in (similar to "LAST ROUND!", if you remember that one), with the small tune played – marking the beginning of the session in earnest. "RANSOM!" NOTIFICATION There's a couple of cards in the current deck, where the opponent cancels one of your projects – or removes all the resources from your project – unless you pay a ransom of 1 score point. It's a special mechanic which, in our opinion, warranted special treatment: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/5b4d5f6e34e34a446409d9a78e86fe9394ae8e7b.jpg A custom notification, and a corresponding sound effect, now play if you're the target of a ransom mechanics (with the next update, we'll tone down the visual a little). MORE DATA INCLUDED IN RESULTS SCREEN We know that you guys love data (and we do, too!), and the end-of-session screen with the results now has much more of that – {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/39b084c9a43d79e043a9ff88c2a542dac46e6038.jpg We've introduced several sections, and display such things as how much time each player spent, how many projects were cancelled, how much ransom was extorted, and so on. If you still miss some data points, please shout. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/fa5196f4c8357803557935320c187a66e7fcfe69.jpg PLAYER PROFILE UPDATED We're getting ready to allow you to view the profiles of other players, and as a part of the prep work, we've updated the player panel in the main menu: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/c6f20a86a36ae4e51d622fcd0374c70752dce2a6.jpg We also aim to allow yo to view the list of past sessions. Version 223

Friends, Welcome to version 223, which we just released. UPDATED SINGLE-PLAYER SECTION {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/9772b9fb16229aa029ce98903fcbb9158ec55d65.jpg The section now does a better job in presenting the different single-player options available, as earlier some players have missed the drop-down menu that allowed to choose another type of the session. The updated UI also prepares us for the feature that’s coming in the next update: the Weekly Challenge, with a leaderboard that resets every week (and a format that will change from time to time). It also adds the (for now, locked) option to play a custom single-player session, where you yourself set the victory conditions. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/56df18561c735afb6155cc93738416ec5ef79867.png Notice the functionality of the bottom part of the section: we display the best result in the game for this type of challenge; your own best result; and also offer a button that leads directly to the relevant leaderboard. With the next update, which will introduce Weekly Challenge, we plan to clean up the leaderboards from the sessions which were completed in the earlier versions of the game and do not have an associated replay file (before, we thought of swiping all the results, but now we think we should keep the results that have an associated replay file, as a “proof” of fair play). UPDATED TURN NOTIFICATIONS {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/1a4b65eae9e2dfee1507b84182f1787978f476b2.jpg Turn notifications (“YOUR TURN”, “OPPONENT’S TURN”) changed: now they don’t block your actions, so you can start playing cards immediately after the change of turn, without having to wait for the announcement panel to disappear. This speeds up the game (especially important for the future formats of 3-player and 4-player sessions). {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/13c9231a63f021ff7399e14acc0088fee6ebc656.jpg Moreover, the center of the table now retains the color of the current player for the whole duration of the turn. So if the table is green...

Version 222: Timers, Leave Penalty, Last Round, New Languages

First of all, congratulations to the whole community on reaching 5.000+ players with access and 3.000+ players who have already played the game at least once. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/f748523f1815df37184c232da071ef443b0001f0.png The top regions remain the same: Russia, China, Japan, USA, Ukraine, Germany, Belarus, Poland, France, Canada. Observing how you play the game allow us to spot the areas where new features and UI changes will cause a positive impact on player experience. Thanks for giving this game a try – and welcome to version 222, which brings a number of improvements: TWO NEW LANGUAGES The game now has 2 new language buttons, which turn on Spanish (the European version) and German languages (bonus points if you understand the references we used to create these buttons). These translations are still work in progress, at the moment about 50% of content is translated and the rest will display in English. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/9e17ef179ef904eb740cab4d5fcc5f5765c4c76a.png If you speak one of these languages – we'd love to hear your feedback on how easy to understand these translations are. SPANISH {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/014c6a3c2de664b865da08d7c8c29a279ad86f36.png Our old friend and writer Josué Monchan is back in the saddle. He translated all of Gremlins, Inc., and we're thrilled to have him working with us on Cards & Projects. Fun fact: among the games that Josué has translated into Spanish, is the famous Papers, Please from Lucas Pope. GERMAN {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/cac17cedc8e882d18f16f9d009b8989f48a7adf8.png Another veteran of Gremlins, Inc. is back: Rolf Klischewski is now working on the German version of Cards & Projects. Fun fact: not only does Rolf translate video games, but he also teaches a course on game localization at a university. USER INTERFACE We continue to work on the UI of the game, there's a few bigger changes in the pipeline as well as a batch of improvements in today's update. BECOMES {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/74bc4e...

    UNDERGROUND CLUB OF RADIO ENTHUSIASTS

We just shipped Version 218, which adds an intro sequence to the game: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/2e0e26e9b2cc98c2a0d6abf95f6ede963fa0e0ca.jpg Yes, Cards & Projects is an underground club set up in the old radio, on the outskirts of the Clockwork Town. This intro is a bow to the 1991 classic PrefClub (DOS; by A. Grogoriev and M. Troukhan). Depending on your age group and playing preferences, you may have spent days in that game, which was one of the few card games widely available in our region. Other than the intro, version 218 fixes a few issues with spelling and UI alignment: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/794337d99aaf550f6d0c592e422cad89d0612582.jpg Small things like baselines, and making sure that the texts fit the space provided for them. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/749040e22c5fa0fa2e5c0817343a073156a15d19.jpg We hope you have fun, and meanwhile we now focus on session logs and a few UI improvements. PS We also just started with the German and the Spanish translations for the game, it'll be a couple of weeks before the first results are in the game (and the 2 new buttons appear).

    Version 217: Private Sessions

Good morning, dear friends – We just released the update to version 217, which has a number of fixes in the texts and UI, and more important – a new feature that the community has requested. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/8538afea9a92caef3cbae1920044afd7b2b039a3.jpg PRIVATE SESSIONS As of today, 4.000 players have access to Cards & Projects, out of whom 2.000 have launched the game at least once. And we can see that these players have issued 1.500 invitations to their Steam friends – so the demand for "playing with a friend" is quite high. In the multiplayer section, you will now find a new button: "PRIVATE SESSION" {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/ce520e06a155ef71cf3688bf807015b0980cb013.jpg This is in addition to the regular "JOIN THE QUEUE" button which adds you to the multiplayer queue. When you press the button for the private session, you get a brief explanation, and a request for code: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/f8718d1129c9139fe914b750f0a1c1f95ba86755.jpg private sessions don't affect your rating private sessions don't have a timer Invent and enter the code, if you created the session for you and your friend. You will then see this window, with the code that you need to share with the intended opponent – {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/cb04a6da609706dfe319ef93a3f87b594732bbbf.jpg Inside the private session, there is no timer: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/051b36b1f6035565e1c45d2d209d6155abcad1ee.jpg And in the multiplayer lobby, you can now see separately private and public sessions: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46183804/0be1ecd0a21e0c0be9ea7b5246e7aeaa749abff4.jpg Both types for the moment are limited to 20 rounds/20 score victory conditions. Full flexibility awaits you later on, in the Early Access version. OTHER ISSUES Among a number of small fixes (we adjusted the price of "ransom" on two cards, from being able to pay 2 score to being able to pay 1 score to avoid confiscation/cancellation; and edited a number of tags), there's also one visual – now counterfeits are also colore...
