Weakly Update #1
A week has come and gone, and in turn it's time for the first weekly report. In this report I will go in-depth about the new (prototype) color customizer, the tentative plans for pre-alpha releases, and some news about the other project I mentioned. Now, without further delay let's get into it. All the Colors!!! First off, earlier last week I gave a preview of the color customization system that is being created for NEX:OS, and some of the very simple things that can be done with it. Now unfortunately progress on that system took most of my focus and time, as I want to have it working well and fully thought out before getting more concept work completed. While the base system is in-place I am still going though and working out some performance hits, and attempting to maximize the amount of available material layers, which currently stands at roughly 6 layers. But what is a layer? In the world of NEX:OS Centurion armor is made of 3 components/materials: Tritanium, Titanoweave, and Polysteel. This system allows for those three materials to be masked out from each other, then even further masked out to allow for up to 3 colors or surfaces to be applied each, for a total of 9 possible colors/materials per armor piece. The current issue is keeping a high level of performance as currently 6 layers seem to push the system to my comfortable limit with performance. Ultimately I am still working and not all pieces will have 9 layers, at most I may limit 5 or 6. Finally players will be able to apply levels of ware to the armor and even place decals to add a little extra flare. So, what does all that mean for you as a player? The goal of this “Plating” system was to allow for similar customizations as seen in Destiny or Halo, but also allow the player levels of control similar to Anthem. This is where I am at now, currently refining the system and working out how to make this work the best. Currently I am leaning towards allowing players a pool of surface types and colors to al...Read full article on Community Announcements (zeroprime)AnnouncementsOfficial
Primordial Games is Back
I’m not dead yet! It has been close to one year; almost one year since I last posted anything, and over a year in a half since the last gameplay video regarding NEX:OS, and for that I am sorry. While I will not bore you with the sob story that has been 2022 for me, it’s been a rough one. The last 7 months have been very hard, emotionally, and the last 5 have compounded on that; leaving me with very little energy and an unannounced hiatus. That hiatus ends tonight. While my personal situation has not changed, it should not affect my professional one for as long as it has/I have allowed it to. Updates will still be slower as I get back into the swing of things and work to gain support for this project. Over the last few weeks I have slowly begun rewriting much of the codebase for NEX:OS, again, implementing more background work that will better allow expansions and growth for gameplay and story content. On top of that I have started working on a second project, also taking place in the world of NEX:OS, but that one will stay behind closed doors for a little while longer; though fans of Vehicle Combat Sims will like it. So, what is my plan going forward? Well at present it is back to just me working on these projects, I hope to bring back on some of the others that helped with this in the past, but for now that is not an option. In the meantime, I have been working on skills to fill that gap until I can bring people back on board. With all that said, my first goal is to start uploading bi-monthly devlogs, either at the start or end of the month, with the first aiming for some time in October. Once my other project gets to a point where I am happy showing it, I will shift to monthly updates rotating between the two projects. These Devlogs will be augmented by text and image updates throughout the months to share what I am working on in more real time. My second goal is to get both projects to a stage where they are playable and release alphas for them, likely through St...Read full article on Community Announcements (zeroprime)AnnouncementsOfficial
Primordialog - 9-29-2021
Primordialog - 9.29.21 Has it really been over half a year since our last Primordialog? … Yes, it has. This is something that must change, it will change… maybe. When I first started writing these, I did not expect a 7-month gap between issues, but that is what happened. Thankfully there is quite a bit I can cover in this current issue, including the drastic reworking of NEX:OS and what to expect moving forward over the next few months. But first I want to reiterate what the Primordialog is. A Clear Focus The Primordialog, first and foremost is my way to directly communicate what is happening involving the development of NEX:OS. This will act as a semi-technical breakdown of the changes and challenges with developing a game like this. Primordialogs will also go over any feedback and concerns players have with NEX:OS and the direction of Primordial Games. While there will be some changes to the structure over time, and even a new writer at some points, the Primordialogs will always be from the Studio as a whole and encompass what we are striving to create. A Game centered around its community and players. With that all said this Primordialog will focus on what has changed from the last playtest from back in January. This article will also touch on some of the changes and improvements coming in the next playtest and hopefully first Preview build, speaking of. https://store.steampowered.com/app/855830/NEXOS_Colosseum/ That’s right, you can now register for the NEX:OS playtest! This is something that has been live for some time, but I would like to remind players that this option is available. While I am unable to give a time frame for the second playtest, I will say we are aiming to have it by the end of the year. More information will be made available as a better picture comes into focus. But with that out of the way let's start with just what we have been up to this last 7 months. Start from Scratch I will admit the heading of this section is a tad bit deceiving as ...Read full article on Community Announcements (zeroprime)AnnouncementsOfficial
Primordialog - NEX:OS Development & Alpha
Transmission – 1.10.2021-Alpha Well, our first Primordialog on Steam, albeit a short one, this is truly an exciting day for us at Primordial Games. With 2020 well behind us now and the start of 2021, looking okay so far, I believe it is time to start talking about NEX:OS and the plans for release. For those who do not know NEX:OS is currently in a closed Pre-Alpha state with the members of the Primordial Games Discord partaking in the testing. In fact, just the other day we had our first major playtest that went off rather well… for the number of bugs we found. If you want to watch part of the playtest you can do so here Ewe, Bugs… BUGS!!! Yes, there are a ton of bugs in NEX:OS right now, more that I would like there to be, even in this early of a state. But that is neither here nor there. For a full list of bugs and issues found during the playtest you can see below. Also in this list is several things that will be in the next major build and in the first Public Alpha Release. Bugs • Players could hear fist person sounds from other players • Some sounds were not player correctly • Animations were incomplete and sometimes broken • In-Game UI and Leaderboards were inoperable or Missing • Player HID was not updating or showing match information • Settings did not fully work and were inaccessible from in-game • Servers were not allowing the maximum amount of players • Servers did not begin matchmaking after post-game cooldown • Weapons would return to 0 ammo after a reload if you fired immediately after a reload. • Game did not register score to win, would only end on timer. Features to be added (By Public Alpha) • Player Inventory Management • Hit Markers/Damage Values • More Maps • More Game Modes • In-Game Menus for Settings and Inventory • Join-in-Progress matches • Mercy Rules System to end unbalanced matches • New Weapons • Melee Abilities • Grenade Abilities • Tactical Abilities • Singularities (Ultimate Abilities) • Advanced Movement Abilities • Double Jump and...Read full article on Community Announcements (zeroprime)
