Embark on adventures in Cube Universe, an indie first-person voxel RPG where you can visit diverse worlds and join forces with friends for quests against evil.

About this game

The universe was once peaceful, a place where magic and technology co-existed and everyone strove for the greater good. But then, many thousand years ago, a freight ship crashed on the home planet of the Rok'lin, a primitive species of warriors. Quickly, they studied the alien technology and built an army of spaceships, powerful enough to conquer entire worlds. The few survivors of their attacks joined them in what would become the Ancient Empire. But some resisted, forming a powerful alliance: the United Planets.

Millennia later, the war has calmed down. But distrust lays deep within both factions and fights break out regularly.

EXPLORE THE UNIVERSE

Fly through space with your own ship and fight against enemies. Buy and upgrade spaceships at one of the local space stations. Or beam down and explore many different, procedurally generated planets.

DUNGEONS

Fight powerful enemies in deep caves and high towers. Be quick and vigilant to survive their attacks.

QUESTS

Various people and, apparently, fungi will give you quests that will reward you with experience and sometimes weapons and armor. But you can't trust everyone, so it's up to you to make the right decisions.

FIGHT

Pick one of 5 different weapons, each with unique abilities and talents. Are you a fire mage, a healer, or a protector?

MULTIPLAYER

You can play alone or with your friends. Regular dungeons are made for 5 people - but don't worry because NPCs will join your group if it is too small.

CRAFT

Choose a profession and advance it to craft powerful items. Become a tailor, blacksmith, jeweler, enchanter, and more.

BUILD

Thanks to a custom-made engine, there are almost no limitations: build with mini cubes that are just 0.5 meters in size, with a maximum building height of over 2 km (4096 blocks).

COMING SOON...

Cube Universe is currently an Alpha, but we're getting close to the Beta. Here is a short list of the planned features. Additionally, more content like new planets, quests, or dungeons will be added.

Improved multiplayer (coming in Alpha 0.7)
Server list (partially working already), friend list, playing the same character on multiple servers, recruitment tool for dungeons etc.

Mods and user-generated content (coming in Beta 1.0)
Support for easy modding, including a terrain editor for custom terrains with custom quests. Most of the content is already defined in XML and Lua files, so we will only have to add some logic that loads user-generated XML files and some code for interaction between different mods. Additionally, the Lua API will be expanded to support more advanced mods.
Mods will not only be easy to create, but also easy to install - if you connect to a modded server, you will not even have to manually install mods since this will be done automatically.

PvP (coming in Beta 1.1)
Fight other players on battlegrounds. Possibly including vehicle combat.

Preview: New character models are coming

We have worked on new models for the 6 playable species, here is a little preview of the Mej'it model. It's still not final, and I am currently having a discussion with the artist about the texture resolution. As you can see, the voxels on the character have a single color, while the rest of the environment is textured (at 4x the resolution). Since I am making this game for you, I think it's best to ask the community: please let me know which style you prefer. Additionally, I am on the fence about the size of the head. It may be a little big. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/32554263/8c1cd9260bc792a2a00da54390437c1ee5af8de6.jpg

    Windows 7 support is ending

The next version of Cube Universe will no longer support Windows 7. Some of the performance improvements absolutely need a CPU instruction that is officially not available in Windows 7. Since Microsoft has ended their support for Windows 7, I have decided to end it in favor of better performance. Specifically, the next version of the game will have an option to often or always reuse RAM internally instead of returning it to the operating system. This significantly improves performance on systems with many cores, which are getting more common these days. For this to work, I need the InterlockedCompareExchange128 function, which is not officially supported on Windows 7. It may still work - it does on my old laptop - but there is no guarantee. I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. But honestly, if you still use Windows 7, you should probably upgrade for security reasons alone.

Cube Universe is back on Steam!

After almost 4 years, Cube Universe is again available on Steam. A lot has changed since. I've added procedurally generated villages, dungeons, and a lot of quests. You can now visit space stations and fight against other spaceships. Many other things have improved as well, including a better world generation, better performance, better graphics, weather, ... I have been asked countless times if Cube Universe was on Steam since I had decided to unlist it. I have come to the conclusion that it was the wrong decision. Well, at least it gave me time to improve the game, because frankly, I have released it too early. Or maybe too late. It wasn't 2010 anymore, the hype around Early Access games had calmed down - rightfully so, given what had happened to some games and developers. Anyway, I can't change the past. But I can change the future. I am close to being done with the programming of Cube Universe. Mods, PvP, some multiplayer improvements, and some smaller things like vehicle combat, better character models, biospheres on the lunar planets, etc. - and that's it. From there it's only adding more content. I hope to make enough money during Early Access to hire some artists and writers for that, otherwise I'll have to find another way. Worst case I'll just get a full-time job and fund those things myself. That's it for today. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments below. Don't forget to like and subscribe wishlist, it really helps the game grow. Man, I really have watched too many YouTube videos.
