About this game
We are working on a FREE DEMO for Steam Next Fest October 2026... if you want an early key, let us know!

Matchy Star is a colorful puzzle adventure that twists classic match-3 gameplay into something faster, stranger, and more strategic.
Instead of matching anywhere you want, every move is shaped by your ship’s flight path. Plan ahead, collect the right stars, chain together big matches, and keep your bubbly little ships moving through a giant galaxy of puzzle challenges.
Travel from Star Base all the way to the legendary Xanadu, meeting a cast of goofy cosmic friends, derpy stars, stylish ships, and powerful items along the way.
Match Stars. Power Ships. Reach Xanadu.
Your ships, Zippy, Skippy, and Bob, each follow their own path through space. To move forward, you need to match stars along the route, extend your range, and collect enough power to survive the journey.
The better your matches, the stronger your run becomes. Big chains, smart planning, and the right item combinations can turn a humble little ship into the fanciest hero in the galaxy.
Build Your Perfect Space Swag
Collect items with stat boosts to customize your ships and improve your chances. Grab crowns, monocles, beards, swords, and other ridiculous cosmic gear. Your ships are fancy. They are special. They deserve proper swag.
Items can affect your score, speed, fuel, buffer alerts, and other important stats, giving each run its own personality and strategy.
Meet the Matchyverse Crew
Zippy is the biggest and slowest ship, but he makes up for it by baking the best cookies in space. Skippy is mid-sized, speedy, and holds the record for eating the most cookies in under a minute. Bob is the smallest and fastest, and for reasons nobody understands, he likes burnt cookies.
Along the way, they are joined by familiar faces from the Matchyverse, including Matchy Star, Spacey Galaxy, Speedy Sputnik, Doctor UFO, Guru Moon, and Pirate Planet.
A Cute Puzzle Game With Real Strategy
Matchy Star is cheerful, silly, and easy to enjoy, but later levels will test your planning. Power-ups, ship stats, items, and star collection all matter as the journey gets tougher.
Features include:
Classic match-3 inspiration with a path-based twist
Try to complete a run through a randomly generated path of different planets, and procedurally generated and pre-designed levels, buffs, and debuffs.
Collect all the items; each one has a unique effect on how the game plays, like bonuses to movement or matches of different shapes.
Three playable ships: Zippy, Skippy, and Bob
Big chains, score bonuses, power-ups, and strategic item choices
A bright, silly, cozy world full of cosmic nonsense
Welcome Back to the Matchyverse
If you enjoyed MatchyGotchy or Matchy’s Kooky Cookies, Matchy Star brings that cute, colorful world back in a bigger puzzle adventure.
Help Matchy Star reach Xanadu, because last time he was there, he forgot his wallet.
It is time to get your Matchy on.
Thank you for playing. You are what keeps the Matchyverse alive ~☆

ZOOT IS ON FIRE! — Alpha Demo v0.18.0
Hey everyone!Matchy Star Alpha Demo v0.18.0 is live! This update is all about making BLASTOFF faster, clearer, and much more satisfying.Blastoff now follows one simple rule: the rocket keeps moving. Movement, turns, collection effects, sounds, and rumble remain synchronized as the ship accelerates. Matches caught during launch resolve without stalling the run, while major reward popups linger long enough to celebrate—even after the rocket has flown past them. There’s also a new live ZOOT COUNTER! Hit 1,000 total route Zoot and you’ll go ZOOT ON FIRE, complete with an ignition burst and a flame-and-star trail behind your rocket. What’s new:Added the live Zoot Counter and ZOOT ON FIRE celebration.Made Zoot popups smaller, clearer, and less likely to overlap.Gave major bonus popups a fixed display time regardless of rocket speed.Made unused fuel increase the final Blastoff payout.Fixed ships stalling when they launch onto an existing match.Fixed the galaxy appearing too small on tall and square displays.Made layouts transition smoothly while resizing between portrait, widescreen, and ultrawide.Kept ships properly aligned with the board during window resizing.Cleaned up Matchymart’s portrait and square layouts, including evenly spaced ship columns.Added direct swapping between compatible equipped items—even between ships.Corrected several item fuel calculations, scaling limits, and refill color-changing effects.Smoothed the trip-emblem transition and fade.Expanded automated testing across gameplay, equipment, replays, and screen resolutions. Thanks to everyone putting screenshots, complaints, and wonderfully strange edge cases into the public issue tracker:https://github.com/Silverware-Games/matchy-star-gdd/issuesPlease keep it coming—and go set that Zoot counter on fire! 🚀🔥Read full article on Community Announcements (michaelplzno)AnnouncementsOfficial
Matchy Star v0.17 — QA Pass Complete
v0.17 is a QA-focused update concentrating on interface consistency, controller support, display scaling, and route presentation.Highlights include:Fixed controller navigation when connecting a gamepad during the tutorial. Board stars are now immediately selectable.Corrected tutorial menus loading the wrong level.Improved menu layouts across 16:9, 16:10, ultrawide, portrait, and 4K displays.Fixed text distortion when playing in a maximized window on a 4K monitor.Restored ships orbiting their current planet on the route screen.Removed invalid and invisible controller targets from the route screen.Improved route variety by preventing the same route from being immediately generated again.Smoothed the galaxy’s entrance animation so it expands naturally instead of beginning as a tiny cluster.Removed the Settings button from the full-reset confirmation, preventing a recursive navigation stack.Improved parity between the automated menu QA renders and the actual release build. The final pass covered 105 automated menu captures across five display formats, along with controller, gameplay, and manual release-candidate testing. Thanks for playing—and for helping us make Matchy Star shine a little brighter!Read full article on Community Announcements (michaelplzno)AnnouncementsOfficial
Another Do Over?! Reworking everything till we get it right.
Thank you, guys, so much for the constructive feedback, bug reports, and ideas on how to make Matchy the best matching game of all time.We really need people to let loose and tell us what they don't like so we can work out the problems before we go live. The tutorial is all new... and hopefully less confusing. Ballast... gone, 1 move of the Stars = 1 move of the ship. Scoring, simple as can be: match 3, fuel 3 spaces. Match 4 fuel 4 spaces...And bugs, we've been smacking them to bits!We are publicly tracking the issues reported in our issue tracker, so please contribute here.Read full article on Community Announcements (michaelplzno)Patch NotesOfficial
The 5-Planet Run Update Is Here!
Hey everyone!I just pushed a major new build of Matchy Star, and this is a big step toward the game I’ve been trying to make. The headline feature is the new 5-planet run structure. Instead of feeling like a set of loose levels, Matchy Star is starting to feel much more like a real run-based space adventure. You’ll travel from planet to planet, build up your strategy, and see how far your current setup can take you. This update also adds a new camera perspective, which gives the board and world a stronger sense of depth and personality. Matchy Star has always been about matching stars in space, but this build makes the game feel a lot more like you are moving through a strange little galaxy instead of just playing on a flat board. The other huge addition is items. Items are still early and will keep changing, but they are the beginning of the build-making layer that will define the full game. The goal is for every run to feel a little different, with weird combinations, surprising synergies, and new reasons to replay. This build also includes numerous bug fixes, balance tweaks, interface improvements, and general cleanup. Some parts are still rough, some items are still being tuned, and the game is very much still growing, but this is the first version where the full shape of Matchy Star is really starting to come through. What’s new in this build:Added the new 5-planet run structureAdded the new camera perspectiveAdded the first major wave of itemsImproved the feel and flow of the demoFixed a ton of bugs across levels, UI, scoring, and gameplayMade many balance and polish improvementsContinued shaping the game toward the full 11-system journeyThank you to everyone who has played, wishlisted, shared feedback, or followed the project so far. Matchy Star is still in alpha, but this update is a big milestone, and I’d love to hear what you think of the new build. Please try the demo, wishlist the game, and let me know what feels fun, confusing, broken, or exciting.See you amo...Read full article on Community Announcements (michaelplzno)
