About this game
A Retro-Future Dystopian Adventure
In the early 21st century, as the environment on earth continues to deteriorate and untainted food sources become extremely difficult to find, a global famine has turned long-held civilizations upside down. The governments have since then been in charge of the acquisition and distribution of food for their people, with most borders closed for security reasons.
Now the year is 2036. In the city of Iden, every piece of food entering resident areas must pass a required set of tests, executed by skilled government workers. You, as one of the newly-recruited food inspectors, will carry out your duty 24/7 alone in a booth. Even though it is considered one of the most desired occupations in Iden, what you want from it is a bit different — an escape from this blockaded city.
Features
Challenge a series of food inspection missions that will put your skills and strategies to the test.
Live a solitary life in a booth and spend hard-earned wages on post-cultural gems or lottery tickets.
Enjoy an atmospheric and characteristic soundtrack that is exclusive to high class Iden citizens.
Meet with a dozen of dull or interesting people who may be a help, a threat, or something else to you.
Experience an immersive, carefully crafted branching story where you get to choose, sometimes.

5th Anniversary Announcements
Dear Players, Today marks the 5th anniversary of Booth: A Dystopian Adventure! I may not be able to celebrate this milestone every year as I move forward with new projects, but the 5th anniversary feels like the perfect moment to share some announcements. 1. Merch in the Making The first merchandise I’d like to create is a set of acrylic goods featuring adorable pixel art of the Booth characters—like the ones in this picture! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/31467339/5d934a7d52823a43b5fc81be1765778a624b9d3e.png Usually, only hit games get merch because there’s no point making it if no one wants to buy it. Booth isn’t exactly a blockbuster, but I still want to make these items—simply because I myself want to own them! I’m still figuring out how to distribute them globally, but for now, my plan is to produce a limited batch and offer them at offline events. 2. A Dystopian Food Trilogy This isn’t a sequel—but rather something new I think fans of Booth will enjoy: I’m working on a Dystopian Food Trilogy! Why a trilogy instead of a direct sequel? Two main reasons: I feel Booth already told its story and explored its mechanics to the fullest, so a sequel wouldn't feel meaningful. I still find the combination of dystopia and food deeply compelling—and surprisingly underexplored. So I’ve decided to build a full trilogy around that theme. Hopefully, it’ll help draw in new players and solidify my creative identity. Here’s the current status: Booth is the first entry and already done. The second game’s prototype is finished. The third game is still in the concept phase. My goal is to finish a demo of the second game later this year and officially announce it at a video game event. That said, getting into these events is extremely competitive—especially for a solo indie developer—so even if the game is ready, the reveal may take a bit longer. In the meantime, I’ll keep working hard and aim to finish the full game by the end of 2026. 3. If You Can't Run "Booth" on MacOS, Try This.
Hi, Lately I've been receiving an increased amount of questions regarding not being able to run "Booth" on a Mac. I studied the problem and found that it was due to newer MacOS having a stricter security policy with downloaded software and "Booth" being a game made with a pretty old version of GameMaker. To solve the "Booth Is Damaged and Can’t Be Opened. You Should Move It To The Trash." problem, follow these steps: 1. Open "Booth.app" once either through Steam or directly from local files (and the above warning message will show). 2. Open your Mac's "System Settings" and find the "Privacy & Security" tab. Inside it you can find a section appeared talking about "Booth" (like the image below). 3. Click "Open Anyway" and "Booth" should run successfully from now on. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/31467339/3ce8691aeb791347f4f72a8f52b6d939b65f53cb.png Hope this helps! Thank You for 4 Years and 12k Copies!
Dear Players, I can't believe it's been 4 years and here's the long overdue Elodie's illustration! Until now, Booth has sold over 12k copies worldwide and has reached 300 reviews. Thank you so much! While they are not huge numbers, few indie titles on the niche side can achieve that. I'm more than grateful Booth can be one of them. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/31467339/a75ee1bdd56a6bdf5e4962299929683d36c5cadd.png It has become such an emotional moment as I redrew Elodie after 4 years, and the sense of time flying by was only strengthened by how much my drawing skill has improved. :) For a long time, I didn't realize how much I love the characters in Booth, but now I do. I would really like a chance to revisit them again in the future. Lastly, a little bonus throwback: when Booth was first released, it was still called "Booth" not "Booth: A Dystopian Adventure." I changed the name for searchability but honestly, I like the simplicity of "Booth." And yeah, we were actually New and Trending for a while. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/31467339/29899a1dd2392550f86afde41c3ac420a7fe5b21.png Development Update A couple of months ago, I started working on the controller support for Booth, but since Booth was designed to be played with mouse and keyboard, adding a comfortable controller support basically means rewriting most of the logic. Considering how much work it is and my immediate need to survive as a full-time indie game developer, I had to suspend that task and shift my focus to making a new game. Apologies if anyone was waiting for that update to play. I can't promise when it will come out but I highly recommend playing Booth with mouse and keyboard if possible. You can wishlist my new game now! It will be out next year. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2775160/ Thank you and Happy 4th Anniversary!
