At long last, there is Golf On Mars
David Bowie might once have asked if there is life on Mars, but Desert Golfing developer Justin Smith is quite confident that – if there is – they’ll be well up for a round of the king’s game. Six years later, and Golf On Mars is swinging onto Steam with a more alien take on the 2014 golf ’em up’s peaceful procedural putting. It’s more golf, it’s extraterrestrial golf, but is it better golf? (more…)Read full article on Rock, Paper, ShotgunPress Coverage
The 20 best non-violent games on PC
My nerves have been sufficiently jangled and my trigger-finger sufficiently itched by the glut of action games which landed in the closing months of last year. I crave an altogether more sedate beginning to 2018, and so my mind turns to games in which violence, reflex or any other kind of unblinking attentiveness takes a back seat. Primarily we’re talking violence-free games here, but I wanted to drill a little deeper than that – so nothing that generally requires a competitive streak. I’m chasing a certain feel rather than a certain category. Flying, walking, puzzling, driving, building, dreaming, climbing, stretching, swinging (not like that), swimming, wondering: these are just a few of the ways in which flashing pixels can make you feel a very different sort of accomplishment. And, of course, these are not even slightly the be-all and end-all of non-violent games on PC – please do nominate more in comments below. Desert Golfing out now on PC
After teeing off on mobile devices in 2014, the best, most challenging, and most addictive golf game in the world ever has finally landed on PC. Desert Golfing is out now on Steam. Don't be fooled by its seemingly bland and two-dimensional aesthetic, beneath Desert Golfing's simplistic veneer lies a deep and intuitive game—wherein endless levels are procedurally generated with no pars, leaderboards or game overs. Playing is simple: You click and drag to set each shot's pitch and power, sink each hole with as few shots as possible, and move onto the next. In judging each hole's elevated platforms and sinking crevices, Desert Golfing is as much a puzzle game as it is about pitching and putting. Here's how its mobile version looks in motion, courtesy of YouTube person tangents: Over the years, I've lost a lot of time to Desert Golfing—to the point where I chose not to install it on my latest phone. A quick glance at the PC Gamer Slack chat paints a similar picture, with one of my colleagues (who will remain unnamed here) racking up a score of 5557. I don't judge, I know what this game is capable of. It seems Desert Golfing landed on Steam earlier this week, where it costs £1.69/$1.99. Cheers, RPS.Read full article on PC GamerPress Coverage
Wonderful golfpurgatory Desert Golfing tees off on PC
Desert Golfing–the best mobile game of 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, and every year until I die–has now arrived on PC. It’s an arcade-y side-on golf ’em up whacking the ball along a seemingly endless desert, each hole filling one screen. Click and drag to set your shot’s strength and direction and away you go. It’s often simple and calm but the procedural generation can spit out some fiendish levels full of pits, jumps, cliffs, overhangs, and slopes. No courses, no pars, just thousands of holes of golf stretching out before you and a score tracking your strokes. Simple and tricky and peaceful and wonderful, and now on PC.
