Embark on a chilling investigation as you uncover eerie mysteries within your own home in Without Escape. Developed by Bumpy Trail Games, this indie adventure blends suspense with interactive puzzles.
About this game

Without Escape harkens back to first-person graphic adventures of the early ‘90s, which relied on pre-rendered backgrounds and full-motion video to tell interactive stories. Explore the confines of your own home as you flip between a mundane existence and a horrifying otherworld. Can you escape the nightmare and find the answers you’re looking for?

One chilly winter night, you go home and notice that nobody’s there. Your parents had told you that they would be visiting your grandparents for the weekend, so you give their absence no mind and go to bed.
At 2:45 a.m., your sleep is suddenly interrupted by strange noises. A burglar, perhaps? You decide to investigate – only to plunge into a nightmarish web of stone, flesh, and flame.
With no way to return to what you thought was reality, you must unravel the secret of your home’s transformation. Are you prepared to endure the horrors that await you?

- Reconnect with the past through classic point-and-click exploration.
- Overcome enigmatic puzzles that will test your wits.
- Play your way with gamepad, keyboard and mouse support.
- Immerse yourself in your home’s oppressive atmosphere with an atmospheric soundtrack.
- Gaze upon 1080p pre-rendered backgrounds – in your old home, which has become a hellish nightmare.
- Discover multiple endings, secrets, and Easter eggs.
- Race against your friends and others with online leaderboards.
- Unlock several achievements.

Welp, another update: v1.1.1
As people say, if something works, don't touch it. After the last update I broke one small thing: window resolutions would always be forced to 16:9, ignoring some of the resolutions that are selectable in the settings menu. That has now been fixed. Also I did some small adjustments to the leaderboards menu. Also the new MacOS build supports both Intel and Apple Silicon. However, Apple Silicon has not been tested, as I lack the means to test it. Please let me know if something is not working.Read full article on Community Announcements (Bumpy Trail Games)Patch NotesOfficial
An update? At this time of year, at this time of day, localized here on Steam?
*Cough* *Cough* ... *COUGH* After so many years since the game's release, I had to dust off the game... The game doesn't have any known bugs, and it contains all the intended features, so... why this update out of nowhere? Well, the game is done with Unity, and recently a severe vulnerability has been discovered in the engine that affects many versions of it, from 2017 up until now (https://unity.com/security/sept-2025-01). And Without Escape uses a Unity version affected by this issue. So I decided to update the game to a more recent and unaffected version, to prevent any potential issues that could affect the players of my game. While I was updating the game, I also decided to update some small things. After so many years, there have been some advancements in the engine. One of them is the new InputSystem (or not that new anymore), which helps implementing input on more platforms and support more gamepads. It has many advantages compared to the old system, which was horrible, let's be honest. So I rewrote my input handling to use this new InputSystem. Now you can use more types of gamepads, and all of them should support vibration. PlayStation pads also have a custom light color depending on whether you have finished the game or not. And this is supported on Windows, Linux and Mac. I also did some changes to the leaderboards UI. Originally I took the lazy route of opening the Steam overlay to show the leaderboards. Now I did a custom UI to show the leaderboards in-game. Also you can select any leaderboard entry and the profile of that person will be shown. This update also has a small disadvantage. Unity deprecated 32bit support on some platforms, so this new version of Without Escape is not compatible with 32bit OSes anymore. But hopefully most people should have a 64bit OS by now. So that's pretty much it. If there's anyone still playing this, I hope they can enjoy it with the relief that the vulnerability has been fixed!Read full article on Community Announcements (Bumpy Trail Games)AnnouncementsOfficial
