An Insurance Adventure with Minimal Color

In 1802, the merchant ship Obra Dinn set out from London for the Orient with over 200 tons of trade goods. Six months later it hadn't met its rendezvous point at the Cape of Good Hope and was declared lost at sea.

Early this morning of October 14th, 1807, the Obra Dinn drifted into port at Falmouth with damaged sails and no visible crew. As insurance investigator for the East India Company's London Office, dispatch immediately to Falmouth, find means to board the ship, and prepare an assessment of damages.

Return of the Obra Dinn is a first-person mystery adventure based on exploration and logical deduction.

How does Papers, Please creator Lucas Pope deal with sharing his work in this era of AI? A severe lack of posting

This current era of the internet is very easily the worst one, even within its comparatively short existence. A myriad of reasons contributes to this, the most annoying and newest one being the advent of AI preying upon every last post you release unto the world. Seven years after release, my favorite detective game of all time just set a new Steam record out of nowhere

If someone asks me to list my favorite games, you have to go dangerously far before a triple-A title rears its head. Citizen Sleeper. Disco Elysium. Before Your Eyes. Return of the Obra Dinn. Only then does a triple-A sneak into my top five, either Titanfall 2 or Dragon Age: Origins, depending on my mood that day. I'm no gaming hipster, I just love games that try new things, and that tends to happen in the indie scene. Our list of the best indie games is full of bangers, but there are more and more low-priced gems releasing every year. I'm just glad that, seven years after release, more players than ever before are playing Return of the Obra Dinn. I'm just not totally sure why. Read the rest of the story... The best PC games of 2018: Return of the Obra Dinn

It's the middle of a calm night as you climb the ladder and board the Obra Dinn. The ship is completely empty, not a soul in sight. Bleached, 1-bit visuals make the ship's edges look freckled and scratchy like someone has etched this whole vessel onto a chalkboard. The three lower decks are lined with cabins, cabinets, and closets. You'll be getting to know every inch of this ship during your time here. It's 1803 and a merchant ship once thought lost at sea has spookily drifted back to dock. It's been four years since the Obra Dinn went missing. Now that it has returned to the British Isles, contracts must be drawn up and paperwork must be filed. Playing as an insurance evaluator, you're given the chilling job of discovering and documenting the mysterious disappearances of 60 sailors and passengers that were once aboard this ship. Return of the Obra Dinn is the latest game by Lucas Pope, creator of the harrowing border control sim Papers, Please. But Pope has left law for lore, and in Obra Dinn you'll bear witness to things that have only ever existed in the gossip of sailors. Read the rest of the story... The best retro games on PC

What are the best retro games on PC? The gaming industry has come a long way over the last decade or two, but sometimes it's soothing to go back to the basics. Games-as-a-service titles like Fortnite and Overwatch have set the benchmark over the last few years by adding new content and cosmetics over an annual plan - something that has been adapted or originated by plenty of other studios, too. It's not all sunshine, battle passes, and dabbing, though. There's still space for games in the modern day that buck these trends by putting on a pair of rose-tinted pair specs, from Doom-like FPS games shooters to love letters to the early days of the World Wide Web. These retro games are, believe it or not, new, but bring back fond memories of the past. If you're after the real deal instead, don't worry, we've got you covered with a list of our favorite old games, too. Read the rest of the story... Update 1.2.120

What's new in version 1.2.120: Updated engine from Unity 5 to Unity 2017 I can't believe I shipped this game on Unity 5, which was already old back in 2018. Maintenance is impossible on such an expired version of Unity so this update drags it up to 2017. Slightly more quaint than ancient now. Quaincient. Added Ukrainian language support Thanks to Olga Sushytska. Added Arabic language support Thanks to Eternal Dream Arabization, who also led me patiently through the labyrinthian funhouse of bidirectional text. Converting from Unity 5 to Unity 2017 and adding RTL text support required a number of under-the-hood changes so if you see anything weird, please let me know through the support form.
