About this game

ROLL. SHOOT. SURVIVE. TRY NOT TO FALL APART.

At the bottom of the universe there's a fridge, and at the bottom of the fridge every meatball waits its turn for The Grinder. Most roll quietly toward the heat. You decided not to.

MEATBALLS is a fast, juicy top-down bullet-hell roguelike. Pick a meatball, dive into the arena, and survive 10 levels of escalating waves, mini-bosses, and seventeen multi-phase bosses who would very much like to plate you. Hoover up XP, gold, weapons and stat-warping items to build a meatball powerful enough to escape — but watch your structural integrity: stack too much and you start to come apart at the seams. Literally.

A ROGUELIKE THAT PUNISHES GREED

Most games of this kind punish you for grabbing too little. MEATBALLS punishes you for grabbing too much. Every item bolts more power onto your meatball — and more weight onto its frame. Push past your structural integrity and the seams give mid-fight: damage-over-time, falling apart, the whole messy business. The best runs aren't the greediest. They're the ones that knew exactly how much they could carry to the door.

EIGHTEEN MEATBALLS, EIGHTEEN PLAYSTYLES

Every meatball has its own passive and starting loadout, and none plays like the last:
  • Classic — the OG. No gimmick, all grit.
  • Spicy — burns everything nearby. Lives fast, hits hard.
  • Frozen — chills the arena to a crawl and outlasts it.
  • Golden — luck and gold roll downhill toward you; shop's cheaper too.
  • Shadow — dash into invisibility, leave a corpse, vanish.
  • Electric — every hit can fork chain lightning into the crowd.
  • Toxic — leave poison clouds in your wake; win by attrition.
  • Cosmic — stretch bullet-time until a second lasts a minute.
  • Inferno — the glass cannon of glass cannons. Apocalyptic damage, paper HP.
  • …and eight more waiting to be unlocked — plus cook your own in The Kitchen.
You start as the Classic and earn the rest by surviving. Then dress them in 30 earned hats.

55 WEAPONS. 131 ITEMS. ENDLESS BUILDS.

  • 55 weapons (including 7 grenade types) across ranged, melee, beams, orbitals, summons, mortars, mines and chain-lightning — from the humble Pea Shooter and Boomstick to the Mincegun, Rail Skewer, Sizzle Beam, Orbiting Olives and the legendary Excalimeat. Level them up, combine duplicates, chase tier drops — and evolve a maxed weapon into one of 47 ultimate forms.
  • 131 items in 5 rarity tiers, from Common scraps to game-warping Legendaries like Phoenix Feather, Bullet Hell Matrix and the Infinity Stone.
  • 40 item synergies and 5 item sets — pair the right gear for build-defining combos: Blood Frenzy, Deadeye, Armageddon, Time Lord and more.
  • 7 utensil actives — a separate "Signature Dish" slot you fire on command: flip, salt-toss, sweep, ring the pass.
  • Block & parry — hold to guard and shave damage off every hit; time it on the front arc to riposte, or bat a bullet straight back where it came from.

SEVENTEEN BOSSES WHO WANT YOU FOR DINNER

Every level ends with its own multi-phase boss — each with a distinct fighting style, signature attacks, destructible arena props, tenderisable weak points and a Borderlands-style intro card:
  • THE PREP COOK — First of the Kitchen. "Still on probation. Extremely eager to impress."
  • THE BUTCHER — Master of the Meat Grinder. "Grinds meatballs for a living. And, honestly, for fun."
  • OL' SIZZLER — Keeper of the Deep Fryer. "Runs the fryer at a temperature OSHA would not approve."
  • MAMA MEATBALL — The Mother of All Meatballs. "Raised six thousand children. Ate the ones who whined."
  • BLINKWURST — The Here-and-Gone. "Hard to pin down. Harder to forgive."
  • GENERAL GRILLSWORTH — Commander of the Charred Legion. "Never lost a war. Mostly because he started all of them."
  • THE NECRO-CHEF — Raiser of Leftovers. "Believes strongly in not wasting food. Or corpses."
  • THE SAUCE KING — Ruler of the Flavor Realm. "You lack... FLAVOR."
  • MIRROR MAITRE D' — Your Reflection, Plated. "Always seats you across from your worst enemy: yourself."
  • THE MEATRIX — Reality's Final Course. "There is no spoon. Only fork. Run."
On replays, a string of alternate bosses can cover the shift — and there's one last diner nobody talks about. Between them: 33 mini-bosses, 51 enemy types with real AI (healers, spawners, magnets, freezers, necromancers), and elite variants with dangerous affixes.

A WHOLE KITCHEN BETWEEN RUNS

  • The Kitchen — cook your own meatball. Stock the pantry from past runs, grind, pan-fry and plate it — spice it right and it comes out with a passive. One run per meatball: die, and it gets eaten.
  • Nonna's shop & cart — spend lifetime stars at Nonna's house on daily specials and permanent utensils, then meet her cart between waves and renovate it for better stock.
  • L'Atelier — earn and equip 30 cosmetic hats at the midnight tailor.
  • Order Up! tickets — pin optional side-orders to your run at the pass: 40 goals that pay out the moment you serve them.
  • Relics, machines & shrines — beat a boss and wield its relic as an active power; out in the arena, coin-op machines and charge-up shrines take your gold, your health, or both.

CRANK THE HEAT

  • Four doneness levels — Rare, Medium, Well Done, and Congratulations (you absolute madball).
  • 15 run mutators — Glass Cannon, Horde, Swarm Lord, Big Game, Happy Hour, Blackout and more to remix every run.
  • Daily & Weekly Runs — one seed, one shot, same for everyone. Climb the global board.
  • More ways to cook — Boss Rush, Endless with an Ascension ladder, 18 Trials, one-life Iron Chef, and Custom Runs you can share as a recipe code.

BRING FRIENDS (OR ENEMIES)

Online co-op and PvP for up to 4 — invite friends straight from the lobby over Steam, or play LAN / direct IP. Co-op scales loot and power-ups to your numbers; PvP runs free-for-all or teams.

📖 Story Update 1.3.9 — The Kitchen Has Some Explaining To Do

📖 Story Update 1.3.9 — The Kitchen Has Some Explaining To Do For a hundred years the village ate well. Then one night something in the Kitchen went wrong, and the food started fighting back. Every meatball Nonna rolls goes down the same belt, and nobody asks where the belt goes. This update is about the one meatball that looked. It's also the biggest update we've shipped: a full story, five new status effects, and a long list of fixes, most of them from your reports. 🚑 First, The Co-op Crash 💥 1.3.8 could crash co-op games the moment a boss or mini-boss spawned, taking down the host and every guest. Single-player was never affected, which is exactly how it got past us. 🔧 Fixed. The boss was counting heads at the table a split second before it had actually sat down. Sorry to everyone whose co-op night ended at the first boss. 🎬 Story Mode Is Here The solo campaign now has a story from the first wave to the last plate. Every boss has something to say to you, and your meatball answers back. 📜 A new prologue opens the campaign. It explains why the ticket printer only ever prints one order: MEATBALLS. TABLE ONE. 🗣️ Every boss talks. All ten main bosses and every alternate boss get a scene when they arrive and last words when they fall. Your boss relic drops after they've finished talking, so it no longer lands on top of them. 🫘 The mini-bosses talk too: Beans, Rye Bread, the Mac, Salt & Pepper, Beans on Toast, the Egg and Bread & Butter each have a scene. 🤝 Kyle remembers what you did. Spare him or eat him at L5, and the ending you get depends on that choice. 💬 Boss banter: bosses shout at you mid-fight when they change phase. It's a speech bubble on screen, so the fight doesn't stop. 🏷️ Every level opens with a short caption about which part of the Kitchen you've just walked into. 🪞 The Mirror at L9 is different for every meatball. 🎩 Il Critico finally explains what happened at table one a hundred years ago. (He says he never said "bland". He's sticking to that.) 🍽️ Thr...

🧪 Update 1.3.9 — Side Effects May Include Being On Fire

🧪 Update 1.3.9 — Side Effects May Include Being On Fire The kitchen fights back. This update adds five new status effects, a meatball that shows every bite you take, and a bell that ends the hunt for the last few enemies in each wave. It also carries an apology to everyone whose co-op night ended at the first boss. 🚑 First, The Co-op Crash 💥 1.3.8 crashed every co-op game the moment a boss or mini-boss spawned. It took down the host and every guest, every time. Single-player was never affected, which is exactly how it got past us. 🔧 Fixed. The boss was counting heads at the table a split second before it had actually sat down. Sorry to everyone whose co-op night ended at the first boss. Go again, it works now. 🧪 Side Effects May Include… Five new status effects, and each one goes after something different that you rely on. Enemies pass them on by touch, and their shots carry them too. 🛢️ GREASED: your stick steers your momentum instead of your meatball, so you wind up, overshoot and skid. The upside is that dashes go 35% further. Given by Ovens and Cheese Wheels. 🥶 CHILLED → FROZEN: every stack slows you 12% and makes reloads 15% longer. At three stacks you're frozen solid and can't move, shoot or dash. Mash move, dash or fire to crack the ice early, and you get a short grace period after you thaw. Given by Frozen Frank, Frost Wraiths, Glacier Golems and Frost Lancers, and by standing around in a Walk-in Fridge's cold. 💧 SOGGY: damp powder. Reloads take 60% longer and one shot in five fizzles at the barrel. Given by Acid Slimes, Acid Spitters and Dishwashers. 🫘 BLOATED: every 1.25 seconds you let out a puff you didn't ask for. It shoves nearby enemies off you and shakes clingers loose, but it also kicks you backwards, away from where you're aiming. Given by Toxic Bloaters. And Beans. Obviously. 🔥 ABLAZE: you burn for 2% of your max HP every second, and armour doesn't help. In exchange you move 25% faster, and anything clinging to you catches fire too. Dash to roll i...

🧾 Economy 1.3.8 — Nonna Has Seen The Books

🧾 Economy 1.3.8 — Nonna Has Seen The Books You told us you could buy the whole shelf. You were right — you could, at every single cart in the game. So we audited every coin the game hands out, found the faucet nobody knew was open, and halved the economy properly. 💰 Gold Is Halved 🪙 A full campaign paid out roughly 19,200 gold. It now pays about 9,600. Same enemies, same items, same drop rates — none of those were touched. Only the money. 🛒 What that means at the cart: at your first shop you can afford about one of the four things on the shelf, where before you could comfortably take all four. By Level 10 you're looking at two or three. 🤔 The shop is a decision again. Locking a slot, re-rolling, walking away with your gold — all of that only means something when you can't have everything. 🐛 The Late-Start Gold Bug 🎁 Starting a run at a later round hands you catch-up gold so you're not broke at Level 4. That calculation was skipping the economy rate entirely and paying about three times what it meant to. Tell us how the new economy feels. If Level 1 now bites too hard, or Level 9 still feels loose, we want to hear it — we've got the measurements set up to act on it fast. Buon appetito! ❤️ — Vexa Media

🔪 Bug Fixes 1.3.7 — The Prep Cook Was Not On The Menu

🔪 Bug Fixes 1.3.7 — The Prep Cook Was Not On The Menu A boss who kept turning up 40 seconds into a fresh run, a minigun upgrade that cost nothing, and two different reasons your frame rate was hitching. All caught, all measured, all fixed. 🔪 The Level 1 Ambush 😰 THE PREP COOK was gatecrashing wave 1 of level 1 — a full boss, at full health, while you were still holding a Pea Shooter. Unwinnable, and it happened roughly half the time. 🏟️ The culprit: peeking at Boss Rush and backing out left the mode armed. Pressing PLAY afterwards ran your "normal" campaign as a Boss Rush — where wave 1 is a boss wave. It never looked like one because your run history recorded it as an ordinary Level 1 death. ✅ Backing out of anything now properly puts the mode back. Run history records the mode too, so nothing can hide like that again. 💰 The Obliterator Was Free 🆓 Every weapon evolution was priced at 0 gold in Nonna's cart — buy The Obliterator for nothing, sell it back for 1g. Not exactly the reward for maxing a Mincegun. 🏷️ Evolutions are now priced off the weapon they came from with a proper premium. The Obliterator is 540g, and sells back for what a Legendary evolution is actually worth. 🎮 Controller: The Village Was Unreachable 🗺️ La Biblioteca, the colosseum and the challengers' camp could not be reached on a pad. Pushing RIGHT — the direction the village visibly is — walked you off to the settings button and stopped. 🧭 RIGHT now walks the whole street and hillside: menu → Nonna's door → La Biblioteca → the colosseum → the camp → the corner buttons, and back again. 🔦 A landmark you focused was drawing its gold ring behind the giant mascot meatball, so landing on one looked like losing focus entirely. It sits on top now. ▶️ RIGHT from PLAY reaches the LOAD button instead of skipping past it. 🧨 The Bullet Hell Matrix Stutter 🌀 Extra bullet streams were riding your weapon's fire rate — so the same item cost 27 bullets a second on a Pea Shooter and 320 a second on The Obliterator...
