About this game

Fight the depths. Stack relics. Bargain with Death.

MegaDope 2D is a fast dark-fantasy arena roguelite set in the Eternium universe. Pick a hero, enter a cursed depth, survive enemy pressure, collect Soul Orbs and gold, draft strange power, and decide whether to pay Death for one more chance when the run falls apart.

This is the Steam-first playable foundation of MegaDope: the place where the heroes, enemy factions, relics, bosses, Hall of the Fallen, soundtrack, and larger Eternium style are being forged into a game players can actually run, break, and master.

Survive, collect, choose, risk Death

The core loop is simple, readable, and dangerous:

  • Enter a depth - Pick a hero and route into a themed realm of Eternium.
  • Fight the horde - Melee, fast, tank, flying, ranged, exploding, elite, mini-boss, and boss enemies pressure movement and timing.
  • Collect power - Soul Orbs, gold, chests, ability rewards, and relics turn a run into a build.
  • Draft risky upgrades - Stack damage, survival, greed, speed, boss pressure, Soul collection, or Death-flavored nonsense.
  • Face Death - Spend gold to rewind a doomed moment, or accept the end and let the Hall remember the run.
  • Chase the next clear - Push for deeper routes, cleaner boss wins, bigger kills, and leaderboard-worthy chaos.

Ten depths through Eternium

Every realm is built to feel like a different branch of the same cursed universe. The goal is not just new backgrounds. Each depth should bring its own color, enemy language, boss identity, and portal fantasy.

  • 01 Fallen Kingdom - Boss: The Fallen King
  • 02 Deep Forest - Boss: The Elder Stag
  • 03 Silverpine - Boss: The Grand Archmage
  • 04 Woodland Realm - Boss: The Last Guardian
  • 05 Forgotten Foundry - Boss: The Forge Mind
  • 06 Machine Horizon - Boss: The Overseer
  • 07 Celestial Casino - Boss: The House
  • 08 Broken Singularity - Boss: The Singularity Warden
  • 09 Abyss Engine - Boss: The Abyss Engine
  • 10 Infernal Core - Boss: Hidden until release

Enemy factions with personality

Enemies are meant to be the pressure system, not filler. Fallen knights, forest corruption, machine-floor threats, casino nightmares, singularity-scale monsters, and abyss engine bosses all push the arena in different directions.

Expect readable chaos: silhouettes you can learn, waves that punish hesitation, elites that change the run, and bosses that turn a depth into a memory event.

  • Executioner Knight - Heavy close-range pressure from the Fallen Kingdom.
  • Fallen King - A realm-ending boss built like a first true wall.
  • Queen Sylvaria - Elegant forest corruption with elite presence.
  • Horizon Engine - Machine-floor rhythm, cold shapes, and projectile pressure.
  • The House - Casino risk, punishment, and reward sitting at the same table.
  • Event Horizon Colossus - Late-depth scale where the battlefield starts to bend.
  • Malgorath - Abyss machinery and boss-stage dread.

Relics, resources, and reckless builds

MegaDope 2D is about the moment a build starts making suspiciously powerful sense. Soul Orbs feed progression. Gold buys opportunity and pays Death's bill. Chests, ability rewards, and relics make the next wave worth risking.

  • Soul Orbs - The core signal of progress, power, and legacy.
  • Gold - The resource behind greed, opportunity, and Death rewind decisions.
  • Depth - Proof the run is getting serious.
  • Kills - Score pressure for leaderboards and personal bests.
  • Relic examples - Blood Vial, Death's Hourglass, Grave Key, War Banner, Soul Magnet, Borrowed Time, Casino Coin, Crown of the Fallen, Swift Boots, Gilded Coin, Demon Tooth, Broken Gear.

Death + Hall of the Fallen

Death is not just a fail state. Death is a room, a bargain, a bill, and sometimes a bad decision you can pay to undo.

  • Rewind Death - Spend gold to pull a doomed run back from the edge.
  • Accept Death - Let the Reaper take the soul when the bill is too high.
  • Enter the Hall - Turn the failed run into memory, stats, tombstones, and Soul Orb legacy.
  • Return stronger - Push deeper so the player's place in the Hall means more next time.

The Hall of the Fallen is the emotional center of MegaDope. A failed run should not vanish; it should become a story, a mark, and a reason to try again.

Heroes and build fantasies

Each hero is a different answer to the same question: how do you survive when the arena starts lying to you?

  • Maximus - Protector-warrior energy, spectral blades, armor, and front-line pressure.
  • Luna - Fire, void, unstable magic, and aggressive area control.
  • Ashlee - Rift energy, elegant blades, and high-style combat.
  • Zane - Blue lightning, speed, precision, and reckless momentum.
  • Legolus - Forest memory, range, patience, and long-distance control.

Leaderboards and run memory

MegaDope 2D tracks the stuff that makes a run worth arguing about: kills, depth, bosses, chests, shrines, Soul Orbs, rewinds, and the glorious mess between them. If a build becomes unreasonable, the leaderboard should know about it.

Original game soundtrack

MegaDope 2D V1 Original Game Soundtrack by Owen's Rebellion is part of the identity of the game. The music direction is tied to the same dark fantasy, casino, machine, forest, and Death-bargain energy that defines the world.

Built by a solo developer

MegaDope 2D is made by Eternium Forge Studios as a solo developer project. AI-assisted tools are part of the creative and technical workflow for prototyping, art direction exploration, coding, testing, and iteration, while the final design direction, implementation choices, world, and taste are driven by the developer.

Wishlist MegaDope 2D if you want dark fantasy arena chaos, weird relic builds, enemy factions with identity, Death bargains, boss pressure, original music, and runs that deserve a place in the Hall.

The World Keeps Growing: Nyx, Mara, New Interiors & More

https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/46197904/6e18cfe302abb2dda53f6878efc598c1ad790134.png We have some catching up to do. Updates have been landing faster than we have been writing about them! Since our September 16 update post, MegaDope 2D has gained two playable heroes, two substantial survival interiors, new enemies, bosses and legendary loot, plus a lot of work on the systems holding it all together. Everything in the main sections below is available now in the current Steam build. Update your game and jump in. Nyx and Mara bring the survival roster to 10 playable heroes, and both new interiors support solo LTID — Leaderboards Till I Die and LTWD — Leaderboards Till We Die co-op. Meet Nyx — The Last Rite https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/46197904/42f77f956d10671fbd7556c6b2a6b78ed43cab44.png Point her at the horde. Nyx is our twin-shotgun crowd breaker: left volley, right volley, reload, and back into the fight. Her automatic attacks tear through enemies up close, while her upgrades let you build around more pellets, fire, extra volleys and kills that feed faster reloads. Attack speed helps the whole firing-and-reloading cycle. Her six active abilities give you several ways to make room: Gravewheel: Spin through six outward shotgun blasts while staying mobile. Hellbreath: Sweep a cone of supernatural flame with your aim and ignite the crowd. Kickback: Throw enemies away with a double blast while the recoil launches you backward. Gravebind: Pull nearby enemies into cursed chains, then follow up with a volley. Bosses are slowed rather than dragged. Blackpowder Veil: Drop a smoke charge that reduces incoming damage while slowing and choking attackers. Final Sentence: Bring both shotguns together for an enormous focused discharge that pierces lesser enemies. She has her own animations, voice lines and upgrade choices. If your answer to a closing circle of enemies is “more shotgun,” Nyx is ready. Meet Mara — The Plague Alchemist https://clan.fastly.ste...

LTWD Update: Saved Teams, Combat Fixes & Sanctuary Improvements

LTWD Update: Saved Teams, Combat Fixes & Sanctuary Improvements Our latest update brings a big round of improvements from LTWD playtesting: persistent team progression, fixes for boss arenas and invisible obstacles, better equipment and shopping controls, and more voices throughout your adventures. LTWD — Leaderboards Till We Die! — is available directly from the normal live game. Select the mode from the game menu to play. It remains a preview in active development, as shown on its in-game screen. Saved progression for your team Gold, unlocks, research, banked items, and unused supplies now persist for your exact two-player team. Each player keeps their own wallet. Your team's permanent progression follows that pairing when you change heroes or complete a normal host transfer. Playing with a different partner starts a separate team's progression. Permanent team progression is separate from your current run: levels, XP, temporary upgrades, revival allowance, and carried or equipped gear do not become permanent unlocks. Existing sanctuary saves still retain the active build for that saved run. Combat and world fixes Boss arena boundaries now apply to both players, including guest movement and dash/blink destinations. Both players now see the boss's current and maximum health correctly. Fixed invisible obstacles caused by cleared scenery remaining in the other player's collision world. Cleared areas stay clear when nearby world sections reload. Fixed Zane's Overload Rush pulling players back toward the world origin in distant LTID and LTWD biomes. Rush now respects nearby solid scenery and the current boss arena. Equipment, upgrades, and sanctuary shopping Open equipment directly with I or controller View. Updated hero, equipment, backpack, and comparison panels make loadouts easier to read. Drag items onto compatible equipment slots, or use controller quick equip. Selection follows your item when the inventory updates. Upgrade choices now show their effects and befor...

The mode is included in the normal live game; no Steam beta opt-in or separate download is needed. LTWD is still in development. The PREVIEW label marks an early version that will continue to receive fixes, balancing and improvements. This release supports two players. https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/46197904/d4c1097949d8b10c53e52ff9dd06c09f77ecc367.png LTWD promotional artwork. The two-player preview is now playable; the artwork's older “No ETA” footer refers to the earlier development announcement. How to Play Together Both players should update MegaDope 2D and sign into their own Steam accounts. Open the LTWD preview from the main menu. Choose HOST WITH A FRIEND, then INVITE FRIEND, or use FIND A PARTNER to search for an open room. Choose your heroes and have both players select READY. The host can then choose ENTER THE SANCTUARY. Two Heroes, One Expedition All eight existing heroes are selectable. The new lobby shows animated heroes, portraits, readiness, a gameplay preview of your selected hero and six inspectable signature skills. Introducing LTWD — Leaderboards Till We Die!

https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/46197904/d4c1097949d8b10c53e52ff9dd06c09f77ecc367.png Maximus, Ashlee, Luna and Zane face the horde together. Promotional artwork for the planned co-op experience. You’ve faced the world alone. Now, bring a friend. I’m working on the next big step for MegaDope 2D: LTWD — Leaderboards Till We Die! The idea is simple: the same LTID world, now with your friends alongside you. LTWD is being built to let you take on that world together, with a goal of up to four players total. This update is in development. There is no ETA or release date yet. Two first. Then three. Then four. I’m taking this one step at a time so I can see how the game holds together as more players join the chaos. Start with two players: You and one friend, getting the cooperative experience working and tested. Then aim for three: Expand once the two-player experience is holding up. Work toward four: The full group is the goal, with each step depending on how testing goes. Basically: let’s see how much trouble two of you can cause before I let all four of you loose. 😄 https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/46197904/9d33b1bc438892d59d1a2c74cc975607a321a808.png Mourne, Vesper, Rook and Sable hold the line together. Promotional artwork, not a gameplay screenshot. Bonus reveal: Nyx is coming to the roster LTWD is also planned to bring more new characters into the roster. Here’s a first look at one of them: Nyx, a dark gunslinger with a pistol in each hand and plenty of undead in her way. https://clan.fastly.steamstatic.com/images/46197904/d102625144780e750fb8fbb34879a5ddffe35361.png Nyx — Dark Gunslinger. Coming to the roster; in development with no ETA. I’ll share more about the new characters and what they can do as development progresses. Coming in a future update — no ETA This is an early look at the direction I’m taking. LTWD is not available to play yet, and I’m not putting a date on it until I have a clearer picture of how it performs and plays together...
