Spire of Legends - Major Update 1.2 is Now Live!

Hello everyone! The second major update for Spire of Legends is now available! This update focuses on improving the core gameplay experience through a complete enemy AI overhaul, a smoother difficulty curve, extensive balance adjustments, and numerous gameplay improvements.Thank you to everyone who has been playing the game and sharing feedback. Your suggestions continue to help shape the game, and many of the changes in this update were inspired by community discussions and my own observations after release.🧠 Enemy AI OverhaulEnemy AI has been completely redesigned to create more consistent, deliberate, and engaging combat encounters.Previously, enemies could occasionally chain together several low-impact or defensive actions, resulting in turns that felt passive or unthreatening. The redesigned system introduces additional decision-making rules that allow enemies to apply more consistent pressure while preserving the identity and intended behavior of each encounter.Enemy intents are now organized into four primary behavior categories:Setup — Creates a future offensive advantage without posing an immediate threat, such as gaining Strength, applying Vulnerable, preparing Block-based attacks, or summoning additional enemies.Pressure — Deals immediate damage or applies effects that become increasingly dangerous over time, such as Burn or Poison.Control — Restricts the player's resources or available options, including effects such as Silence, Hex, Confusion, Weak, Mana drain, and Afflictions.Recovery — Improves enemy survivability through effects such as Block, Barrier, Dodge, healing, or defensive support. Each individual intent now has its own cooldown and maximum consecutive use limit. Enemies consider these restrictions, along with the intent categories, when selecting their next action. After using a non-damaging Setup, Control, or Recovery intent, an enemy is now guaranteed to follow up with an offensive Pressure intent. Pressure intents may still be used consecutiv...

What's Next for Spire of Legends

Hello everyone! In this post, I'd like to share my short-term plans for Spire of Legends and talk about some of the changes I'm currently working on.One piece of feedback I've seen several times is that players feel encouraged to intentionally drag out battles.Given that Mana and Skill cooldowns persist between combats, I completely understand why players might feel that way. However, this is an intentional part of the game's design. The idea is to let players think ahead and decide whether it's worth spending resources now or saving them for upcoming elite or boss encounters where they'll matter more. That said, I believe the larger issue isn't the persistence systems themselves—it's the game's overall difficulty. If encounters don't consistently pressure the player, stalling becomes increasingly attractive because it can leave you in a stronger position for future fights. My goal is to preserve long-term resource management while making combat itself more engaging and meaningful. Here's how I plan to approach it.Part 1 — Enemy AIThe next update will include significant improvements to enemy AI.I won't go into detail here since the patch notes will cover the specific changes, but the overall goal is to reduce low-risk turns and keep enemies applying meaningful pressure throughout combat without removing the persistent Mana and Skill cooldown systems.Part 2 — Act Difficulty CurveImproving enemy AI is only one part of the solution. The second is addressing a structural issue with encounter progression.Right now, some enemy compositions are naturally much more dangerous than others, yet they can appear on any floor within an Act. This means a particularly difficult encounter may appear early, while an easier one can appear much later, making progression feel inconsistent. To address this, enemy compositions will be grouped into early-, mid-, and late-Act encounter pools. As you progress through an Act, you'll gradually face more challenging encounters, creating a smoother...
