About this game

Hacklash is a typing horror game where you type against the clock while a hostile AI has a turret aimed at your spine. Survive as long as you can, beat your best scores, and climb the global leaderboards across multiple modes and modifiers.

SUMMARY

You break into a surveillance corporation called ORCA (Omni Research & Control Authority) to access their data. You go to log in to a computer, but then you get a nasty surprise.

The computer is alive, and it wants to have some fun with you before shredding your lungs.

Race against the turret timer countdown, typing randomized codes from a list of 1300+ words and trying to get through as many as you can.

You earn big points for completing words fast, but less for taking time or mistyping.

As the game progresses, ORCA will impose RESTRICTIONS on you, such as words where you can't type vowels or numbers.

The timer will shorten. You will feel cold dread and your heart rate hasten more than your fingers as you tire and...

At the end of your life, you see your high score. Try to beat your best score, or those on the global leaderboards.

Hacklash offers:

  • Four Modes

  • Daily Challenges

  • 11 Achievements

  • Multiple difficulty settings and configuration options for adding more ease or challenge to the ORCA experience

  • Different Phosphor Colors

Good luck hacker.

ORCA has calculated your arrival. ORCA is ready for you to play.

    Protocols and Punishments Update

Hello hackers, hope you enjoy the new update!Added Custom Protocol, a game mode for making your own custom challenges. Note: there aren’t any local or global leaderboards for Custom Protocol, just the score at the end of a gameDisabling Restrictions gets marked on leaderboards, similar to how enabling certain difficulty options gets your score marked. Disabling all restrictions causes global score not to be shownForgiving difficulty scores aren't shown. It's baby mode, so players shouldn't be rewarded for playing with it onAdded more ORCA lines. For example, now ORCA will have things to say upon imposing restrictions and withdrawing restrictions.Fixed certain Directives being wrong or brokenMade Daily Directive descriptions all caps to keep in theme with the rest of the UI

    Midnight Update

Good morning hackers, quick new update! - Updated screenshot of Daily Directive to not be the lame "no modifiers" screenshot. There's an actual modifier showcased now - Updated Ambience audio configuration to remove drone sounds - Updated the Drone sound effect to be less high pitched and obnoxious - Added a way to play the old annoying Drone sound as a new Difficulty option you can enable called CARRIER TONE - Added three new Restriction types: o TAB SAVVY makes you have to press tab at specified points where there's a > o HOLD LETTER makes you have to hold down a random letter before typing in a code o HOLD NUMBER makes you have to hold down a random number before typing in a code (Note: The letters and numbers chosen don't conflict with the code, so there shouldn't be instances where you get an A and a code like Apple which would kill your run/break the game) - For SUSTAINED SHIFT, LEFT HAND, and RIGHT HAND restrictions, updated them to have a message appear right beside the timer clearly saying what you need to hold down, which changes color when holding it down - Made the demo on the store page more prominent - Updated the demo to include more stuff More to come in due time. Happy hacking!

    Launch Patch

    - Added an easier way to see Global Leaderboards after a game (excluding Training mode, of course). You can now switch between seeing local leaderboards and global boards with a press of a button after a game - Some general Steam leaderboard fixes. Fingers crossed it's solid now. Thank you to everyone for playing! Please report any bugs you find or anything weird about the leaderboards if you spot something. I'll try to fix them as fast as possible.
