About this game

American High School Basketball Dynasty is a single-player basketball management sim about coaching, the part of the game most titles skip. You won't be taking the shots. Your job is to scout the opponent, set the plan, and make the calls that decide whether your team walks off with a win. It runs across a full season and a postseason bracket where one cold night ends everything. It asks you to think, and it still lets a newcomer get up to speed fast.

A Universe of Your Own

Behind your program runs a complete basketball world. Three divisions, dozens of conferences, and more than 150 schools play their own seasons, hold their own playoffs, and build their own record books every year. You can scout any of them, follow the standings and scoring leaders across every division, and watch the balance of power shift from one season to the next. Win enough and the bigger programs come looking for you.

All of it is yours to change. Because every team name, nickname, and logo can be edited, you can leave the default world in place or rebuild it however you want, your home state, the league you grew up watching, or a fictional world nobody has seen before. Set the stage the way you like it, then go coach in it for years.

Coaching Is the Game

Offense against defense is the fight that decides most nights. The right scheme for the matchup can blow a game open, and the wrong one can cost you a night you had already won. Once the ball goes up you stay in it. You can change schemes at any stoppage, push or slow the pace, turn the defensive pressure up or down, send everyone to the offensive glass, spend timeouts, choose who guards the other team's best player, and foul on purpose to stop the clock late. Handle every substitution yourself, or let your staff manage the bench. The schemes you drill in practice are the ones your team runs cleanly when the lights come on. Talent still wins games, but a smart plan can topple a better roster, and a sloppy one can waste a good team.

Your Career on the Line

Your record follows you from job to job. Put together winning seasons and the offers come in. Fall short and the pressure builds, and a bad enough run gets you fired and hunting for the next opening, sometimes with nothing left but a middle school job. The climb takes you from a small program barely hanging on to a name everyone respects, with conference and state banners going up along the way. When a season closes, every division names an All-State first and second team, a set of honorable mentions, and a Coach of the Year, and the history pages keep every champion and bracket you leave behind.

Watch It Unfold

The season plays out in front of you, one possession at a time. The anthem runs before tip-off, the whistle stops play on a foul, the crowd swells on a big three, and the buzzer ends it. Chalkboard diagrams lay out your sets and your matchups, the box score and minutes and fatigue fill in as you go, and you can fast-forward a blowout or slow things down for the final two minutes of a tight one. This is a management game you sit back and watch, not a results screen you skip past.

Your Roster Over Time

Nobody on your bench stays the same. Seniors graduate, freshmen arrive, JV players fight for minutes, and the players you keep grow over the years based on how much you use them and how good a coach you have become. One season you might build around a center who scores with his back to the basket, the next around a shooter who stretches the floor or a guard who gets to the rim at will. Reloading after a graduating class leaves is a challenge all its own.

Why It Plays Differently

Most basketball games hand you a player. This one hands you the clipboard. What you get out of a game comes down to the reads you make, the matchup you take advantage of, the timeout you call at the right second, and the program you grow from a nobody into a contender. It rewards knowing the game more than it rewards fast hands.

Every program has a ceiling until the right coach walks in. Take a job nobody else wants, build it your way, and chase the one game at the end of the year that a whole town never forgets. This is your bench now. Go hang a banner.

    Another Quickfix 9/10/26

Sorry for multiple patches in the same day, but this update was too important to hold off on. I was excited to get this out as quickly as possible after I received feedback that the game was a little slow for some players. I'm committed to providing the best possible game experience and when I get feedback I will act decisively to fix as quickly as possible. Performance Simulating a big batch of AI games at once — a multi-day fast-forward, catching up an entire season's worth of other teams' games, or hitting "Sim All Remaining" on a bracket — now spreads that work across multiple CPU cores instead of running one game at a time on a single core. On a modern multi-core machine this can meaningfully cut the wait on those larger jumps. A normal single "Next Day" click won't feel any different — it was already fast, and this change specifically targets the bigger catch-up moments. Bug Fixes Fixed the Settings panel being unreachable at some zoom/Element Size settings — it had no height limit or scrollbar, so on a smaller screen (or at 100% zoom) it could run off the bottom of the window with no way to scroll down to whatever was cut off, including the Report a Bug button. The "Sim All Remaining" button on the playoff bracket now shows a "SIMULATING···" state and disables itself while it's working, matching every other simulate button in the game, so it's always clear a click registered instead of looking like nothing happened.

    Quick Fix Update 9/10/26

Bug Fixes Fixed a rare but serious bug where clicking the end-of-season "Advance to Awards" button more than once (e.g. clicking again because nothing seemed to happen right away) could cause the game to process the season transition twice in a row. This could skip an entire season for your own team — leaving it stuck at 0-0 for that year in your season history — while every other team in the league shows a normal record. The button now shows "PROCESSING..." and disables itself the moment you click it, so a second click can no longer slip through, and the game itself now refuses to run two of these transitions at the same time no matter what triggers it. Fixed the starter indicator (●) in the box score sitting so close to a player's name at smaller sizes that it could read as a stray period. This was causing the live game starting five to sometimes cut off a small portion of the players name/stats. Also added new "bug support" tools so that the information comes to me quicker. This report came from Discord today, so you can always use that as well.

Blue Chip Recruits and the Pre-Season Coach's Poll

This is the biggest update since launch, and most of what is in it came out of conversations with you. Bug reports, questions about why a number looked wrong, and a few "why does the game not do this yet" posts turned into almost everything below. Blue Chip RecruitsEvery so often a player walks into a high school gym who was never going to be a normal recruit. Blue Chips model that. A Blue Chip can show up in two situations. The first is a dynasty situation, where a Legendary coach with twenty or more years, a Champion with multiple state titles, or a Proven Winner with a title and a run of conference championships has built a program that talent wants to be part of. The second is one of the established private school powerhouses, which draw that kind of player regardless of who is coaching. They are rare on purpose. A 5A season can produce at most three across the entire division, 4A at most two, and 3A at most one. A Blue Chip arrives with an elite ceiling and a real head start on his attributes, then develops through the exact same progression system as everyone else. Nothing about him is scripted. In testing, a median Blue Chip's senior season lands at the 99th percentile of a normal player, and swapping one into a starting five moved that team's win rate from 63 percent to 75 percent against a fixed opponent. He is a real difference, not an automatic win. You will know one when you see the blue circle and star badge on his player card. The Pre-Season Coach's PollEvery season now opens with a poll. Projected records are frozen before the first tip, schedule aware, with a nudge for coaching quality, and the whole division is ranked. It lives inside Standings under a STANDINGS / PRE-SEASON POLL toggle, right where you already go to check records, and it pops automatically at the start of each season. The Dashboard's Top 10 Teams widget now has a toggle to compare the preseason poll against the live rankings, so you can see who is beating their projection and who i...

    Small Player Development Tweak

Made a small tuning pass on player development this update. A few things should feel a bit smoother:Slightly adjusted how quickly players close in on their potential over a season.Small tweak to free throw shooting consistency.Minor pacing adjustment so growth is a little more spread out across a player's four years, rather than most of it happening early.Fixed bug where if a player gets hurt during "crunchtime" just before halftime, he is still available to play.As always, this mainly affects new recruits going forward. Nothing drastic for your existing roster. Let us know if you notice anything!

    Quick Fix 8/28 Player Development

We found and fixed a few issues affecting how players develop over their careers:Free throw shooting was drifting down over multiple seasons. Fixed the underlying formula so it stays realistic long-term.Some players' overall potential was getting capped too low, especially on rebuilding programs — this was quietly limiting how good a lot of your recruits could ever become. Fixed, so weaker programs can still develop real talent.Freshmen were sometimes hitting their ceiling almost immediately and then plateauing for the rest of high school. Every player now has a hidden development curve — some blossom early, some are steady throughout, some don't come into their own until junior or senior year. You won't know which is which up front, so keep an eye on your roster over time. These changes mainly affect new recruits and new saves going forward — existing players on established rosters won't be retroactively rewritten.Thank you again to the community for their dedication in playing the game in Early Access in order to provide valuable feedback that will continue to make American High School Basketball Dynasty a special place to live out your coaching dreams.
