About this game
Hire is a medieval fantasy management game about running a small mercenary guild in a world of dangerous contracts, flawed heroes, hard bargains, and bad luck.
People come to you with dangerous work. You negotiate the contract, hire the right fighters, equip them, choose the route, and send them into danger. If the deal was bad, the party was wrong, or the road turned ugly, the consequences come back to your office.
The biggest hook is negotiation. You talk in your own words instead of choosing preset dialogue. Ask for more money, hide the danger, promise rewards, push desperate people too hard, or walk away. The people across the table have pride, fear, debts, reputations, memories, and limits.
Every campaign creates a new world: a new city, map, economy, factions, families, heroes, quests, portraits, crests, locations, and problems. A new guild means a new cast, new risks, new opportunities, and a different history every time.
If you like the long term management of Football Manager, the character and family drama of Crusader Kings, the dangerous expedition pressure of Darkest Dungeon, or the joy of dying from a perfect storm in Dwarf Fortress, you should feel at home here.
Run a fantasy mercenary business
You own a small mercenary guild. People bring you dangerous jobs, you negotiate the price, hire fighters, prepare the party, and try to make a profit. Pay too much and the guild bleeds money. Pay too little and the best fighters may refuse.
Every playthrough creates a new world
Each new game generates a fresh city, map, heroes, factions, families, cultures, quests, names, portraits, crests, locations, and stories. A new guild, a new cast, a new map, and new problems every campaign.
Negotiate in your own words
Talk naturally instead of choosing preset dialogue. Ask for more money, hide danger, promise safety, push your luck, or walk away. Every deal depends on who you are talking to and how far they are willing to bend.
Hire people, not units
The fighters you hire are not blank soldiers. They have personalities, skills, fears, injuries, gear, money problems, relationships, and memories. Some are brave. Some are greedy. Some are desperate. Some are famous enough to laugh at your offer.
Prepare the job, then live with the result
You choose who goes, what they carry, what route they take, and how cautious they should be. Then the party leaves without you. Travel is not a scripted cutscene. Routes, terrain, danger, events, injuries, and bad luck can all change what happens before the heroes even reach the fight.
Collect gear, artifacts, prestige, and scars
Win contracts, recover or commission rare equipment, chase legendary items, survive disasters, build your reputation, and grow your estate from a rented room into something worth defending.

Away heroes locked, heroes list mid-negotiation, injury count fixed
- Heroes out on a contract can't be hired or offered a retainer until they are back; their card shows when. - Client negotiations have a Heroes button: see your retainers and the city pool, and who is away, without leaving the talk. - The quest report's Injuries count now includes combat wounds. - Tooltips no longer stick while scrolling. - Pause menu: plain Save, plus search and sort on Load. - Report a bug from inside the dungeon. Reports now carry the game's memory log and recent crash entries automatically. - Backpack reserve list sorted best first. Thanks to Jaxaloth, LordPoseidon and · · · for the reports.Read full article on Community Announcements (HireDev)Patch NotesOfficial
Auto-equip upgrades gear, family news fixed, swap list sorted
- Auto-equip now upgrades: it swaps in the best guild gear for every slot, on the Armory button and a new Auto-equip button on each hero card. Replaced guild pieces go back to the armory; a hero's own pieces go to his stash. - The gear swap list on the Quest Plan is sorted best first. - Family news: women heroes give birth themselves now (it used to say "wife"), and not while they are out on a contract. Rest exploit closed, starting gold is your call, save search
- Resting in a lair and clicking away from the result no longer skips the ambush. The fight comes either way. - New Game: starting gold is your call. Default keeps the 550-750 roll, or type your own amount, up to 99,999. - Relations tab: your own retainers always show their friends and rivals by name. It used to hide what the History log had already told you. - City Pool cards: the "Met - toward you" tag no longer pushes the role name out of the card. - The credits window now says what credits buy: paintings (right-click any picture) and Wake the Server. - Saves: search and sort (Last saved / Name) on the Load screen and in Settings. Thanks to · · ·, Jaxaloth and the player who reported the rest exploit.Read full article on Community Announcements (HireDev)Patch NotesOfficial
Starting gold raised to 550-750
- New games now start with 550 to 750 gold (was 350 to 580). The roll still leans a little higher with age. - Existing saves are not changed. Why: a new player signed two retainers on day one, which alone cost more than any starting purse allowed. The old bracket left no room to learn from that. Thanks to arthurkay133 for raising it on the forum.Read full article on Community Announcements (HireDev)Patch NotesOfficial
Clock pause for every chat, real gear numbers, picker fixes
- The world clock now pauses for every conversation, including the retainer talk from the "about to leave" alert and the hire chat inside a quest party. It used to keep running under those two. - New option in Settings > General: pause the clock on every notification, not only the ones that need an answer. - Gear pickers show weapon Damage / armor Protection and durability instead of a bare multiplier, and the Loadout picker compares each item against what is in the slot now. - Quest Plan pickers (backpack reserve, gear slot) no longer get cut off at the bottom of a long party list.
