About this game

Sever the spread

A wildfire doesn't move - it connects. It crawls from tree to tree, tile to tile, and every healthy patch it touches becomes the next one to burn. You fly the only thing standing between the fire and the town: a single water bomber.

Read the fire. Cut the line

You can't put out an established blaze by flying over it. You win by getting ahead of it - soaking the healthy tiles in the fire's path so it runs out of places to go. Draw a wetline across the map and the flames die at its edge.

  • Fly the altitudes - Drop low over a lake to refill your tank, climb high to clear ridges, and level out to bomb. Speed and control shift with every altitude.

  • Drop water in bursts - Your trail of wet tiles is painted by the plane's own motion. Time your runs; a tank only holds so much.

  • Fight fire with fire - Light controlled backburns to starve an advancing front before it arrives.

  • Watch the wind - Shifting wind carries embers far downwind, opening new fires behind your line. The weather panel is your early warning.

  • Save what matters - Houses and towns are what you're scored on. Lose too much of the map and the run is over.

Every run is a triage problem

Do you chase the ember that just landed by the town, or hold the main line? Refill now and lose ground, or push one more pass on fumes? Levels are rated on how much you save - chase three stars, or just barely make it out.

Some tiles burns faster than others

Embers can turn fields into infernos, while thick forests gives you time to respond

Made for a 10 day game jam

Wetline started as a game jam game on the theme "Connections" and is now my first release. Hope you enjoy!

Content Patch: Two Planes, Two Tools

Wetline has now sold ten copies! To mark the occasion, here is a content patch. New Aircraft Scout - based on the Air Tractor AT-802. Small, fast, agile. Carries less, but arrives before the fire does. For reacting to spread you did not plan for. Tanker - based on the C-130. Large, slow, cumbersome. Carries a lot, turns like a container ship, best used on a map with large lakes and predictable fires. Unlock them by collecting enough stars. New Firebreak EquipmentFire Wall Spewer - lays a wall of fire directly in front of the aircraft. For when you need a barrier now and don't have the luxury of a good approach angle. Line Designator - draws a clean, straight line behind the aircraft as it flies. Slower to set up, but the result is exactly what you intended, which is not something Wetline has offered much of until now. You can combine any unlocked aircraft and equipment to your liking in the new hangar option available in the main menu!Misc updatesWater drop salvo capacity and usage is now available on the HUD Thanks to all ten of you, my next plan is to create a demo for this game! Or if I reach 100 sold copies I may do a graphical overhaul 😅

    Wetline is Out Now

Release day! Finally my first Steam release: Wetline. The game got a decent reception at a 10-day game jam, which was enough to finally push me into building a real game. A "real game."What is this nonsense-game?In Wetline, you're the last line of defense against a blaze bearing down on people's homes. Time is short, so it's all about focusing on the big picture, not only the biggest threats. Water will knock out smaller flames, but to solve the problem for good you can cut your own firebreaks and let the fire burn itself out, starved of fuel.Thank youThanks so much for spending time with my little solo project. And don't blame me if GTA 6 decides to push its release date back when they notice this gem!

Release announcement for Wetline the fire fighting game!

Steam release incoming! This is my first game on Steam, so it's a small, quiet launch but I wanted it to be properly finished rather than just uploaded. This game started in a game jam so it has always been small in scope but with 6(!) wishlists the stakes are higher than ever! Here's what's changed since the trailer a few weeks back. A nicer-looking gameThe whole game now runs through proper post processing. Adding film grain and vignette but most important bloom to make the embers from the fires actually glow.Wind that bitesWind now comes in gusts on more difficult levels. When one kicks up, embers fly faster and reaches further downwind. So a calm map can turn dangerous in a moment, watching the weather panel is now actually worth it. The towns talk backTownsfolk now react to how you fly. Relief when you put a fire out near them, a cheer when you chain a good run of saves, and dismay if you torch one of their own buildings with a "controlled" burn. An in-game manualA Tips/Codex book has been added since its difficult to convey all the systems in the game. The codex covers the basics, the tiles, and some tactics.Custom GameOnce you've beaten a map, you can replay it with your own scenario: pick the number of fire fronts, the fire size, the wind and ember intensity. It's a sandbox to make your easy maps brutal (or the brutal ones fair) - separate from campaign progress. Thanks to anyone who plays it. See you on release day!
