About this game

The Tang Dynasty—an era where prosperity and shadow, poetry and crime coexisted.

You are a scholar with dreams of passing the imperial examinations, but on your journey to officialdom, you unexpectedly become embroiled in a series of perplexing murder cases.

Beneath the seemingly peaceful Jiangnan inn, bustling main street, deserted temple, and ancient bridge, undercurrents surge, and truth and lies intertwine.

Can you, with composure and wisdom, unravel the layers of mystery and confront the secrets hidden between dreams and reality?

On your journey of investigation, you will encounter one bizarre and mysterious case after another.

To deduce the true culprit and motive, you will need to: Freely travel to various locations, collecting clues and evidence, following the development of the plot; Delve into crime scenes, observing subtle clues and analyzing contradictory testimonies; Through questioning and logical deduction, unravel the mystery and reconstruct the truth of the case.

Each murder case hides a secret, revealing the greed, desire, and tragedy within human nature.

While seemingly independent cases, they are connected by a hidden thread.

When all the clues converge, you will embark on a journey concerning fate and justice.

You will confront your own inner evil, making a final choice in the abyss where good and evil intertwine.

Following the hand-drawn scroll depicting the Tang Dynasty, we will traverse the grandeur of the era: Spending the night at a post station outside Chang'an, listening to the rain pattering on banana leaves; Traveling to the misty waters of Yangzhou, exploring the dreams of literati; traversing the Western Regions trade routes, uncovering a mysterious case in a foreign land; Entering the depths of the imperial palace, dreaming of the magnificent Chang Le Palace…

Every scene is a beautiful painting;

Every deduction is a step towards the truth. "A Night Dream in the Tang Palace" invites you to embark on this suspenseful dream journey across the glorious Tang Dynasty.

    Dreamscape: Tang Nocturne Game Background

When court officials paid homage and memorials arrived from across the realm, both the Emperor and Empress were hailed as the "Two Sages." The Emperor sat in the eastern chamber, while the Empress sat in the western chamber. The twelfth month of the first year of the Linde era (664 AD)*Zizhi Tongjian* (Comprehensive Mirror in Aid of Governance)---In today’s article, we travel back to one of the most prosperous eras in Chinese history to witness how the only empress regnant in the history of the Middle Kingdom ascended to the pinnacle of power amidst treacherous political struggles. Meanwhile, in a small county far away, countless ordinary people caught in the torrent of the times were quietly swept into this vortex of power.Beneath the surface of this golden age, undercurrents surged; what fate awaited them?A Daoist Priest Lacking CompetenceIn the first year of the Linde era, there was a Daoist priest in Chang'an named Guo Xingzhen who enjoyed the deep trust of the imperial family. He was no ordinary street-corner fortune-teller; he held the official rank of *Chaosan Dafu* (Grand Master of Palace Leisure), specializing in imperial religious affairs and participating in major ceremonies.During the *Fengshan* sacrifices at Mount Tai, Guo Xingzhen had erected the "Twin-Bundle Stele"—also known as the "Mandarin Duck Stele"—for the imperial family, earning him the profound confidence of Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wu Zetian. One day, Empress Wu secretly summoned Guo Xingzhen to the palace to perform *yansheng*—a form of sorcery involving prayers, talismans, and mystical rituals intended to curse and suppress political rivals. Unfortunately, the priest lacked professional competence; not only did the ritual fail to achieve its aim, but it also attracted unwanted attention. At that time, many within the court remained loyal to Emperor Gaozong. The eunuch Wang Fusheng discovered the matter and immediately reported it. Gaozong was furious upon hearing the news. Due to health iss...

Night Dreams of the Tang Palace | Authentic Tang Dynasty Artworks in Historicall

We have compiled the historical references behind some of the designs in the *Tang Dream* (Tang Meng) project to share with those interested in Tang Dynasty culture.🏯 Architecture | Grand *Dougong* Brackets and Sweeping EavesTang Dynasty architecture blends indigenous Central Plains styles with foreign cultural influences; its most iconic structural features include massive, multi-layered *dougong* (interlocking wooden bracket sets) and eaves that sweep gracefully upward and outward. Architect Liang Sicheng famously described Tang wooden structures as having "grand *dougong* and deep, far-reaching eaves." A prime example is the Great East Hall of Foguang Temple, where the *dougong* support eaves projecting nearly four meters—the longest cantilevered eaves among all surviving ancient Chinese structures.🔍 Artifacts | Sunflower-Shaped Bronze Mirrors and "Lamp-Hanger" ChairsThe bronze mirror used for finding clues in the game is modeled after the sunflower-shaped bronze mirrors featuring bird-and-flower motifs common in the Tang Dynasty. Tang mirrors broke away from the traditional circular shape, introducing new forms such as sunflower and lozenge-flower shapes. The eight-lobed sunflower mirror typically features realistic depictions of flora and fauna—such as flowers and flying birds—arranged in a free yet ingenious layout that captures the vibrant spirit of the High Tang era.The "lamp-hanger chair" (or *denggua yi*) featured in the game traces its historical roots back to the Sui, Tang, and Five Dynasties periods. Depictions of this type of high-backed seating appear in Tang Dynasty murals at Dunhuang and in the famous Five Dynasties painting *The Night Revels of Han Xizai*. The chair gets its name from its top rail (*danao*), which resembles the bamboo hooks used in the Jiangnan region to hang oil lamps. With its simple, upright silhouette, it stands as a significant example of the evolution of high-seated furniture during the Tang Dynasty.🎨 Patterns | Lotus Caisson...

The Chivalrous Youth in My Heart|Authentic Tang-Dynasty Details Meticulously Res

A staple fashion of the Tang Dynasty: round-collar robe layered over a cross-collar inner garment Song Haikun’s deep blue long robe is a yuanlingpao, the standard daily attire for Tang men. Paired with a white undershirt underneath, it not only adds layered texture but also follows authentic ancient dressing customs. Its clean, streamlined silhouette exudes the free-spirited charm of a youthful lad!Historically precise belt details: fish tally, leather girdle and pan pouch Take a closer look at his waist belt—a distinctive Tang leather girdle. For ease of horseback riding, Tang officials hung various accessories from their belts, including pan pouches and gilded hydrangea sachets. The golden fish-shaped pendant is a genuine Tang artifact: the fish tally, equivalent to a modern work ID or access pass! The game reimagines this antique token as a dashing accessory for the young protagonist. ✨The chivalrous youth of my imagination: ribbon headband and black leather boots While sketching character drafts, I constantly pictured what kind of young man embodied the bold, unreserved male lead I envisioned. He ought to wear his hair half-tied with a blue silk ribbon, dangling pendants strung from his waist belt, carrying relics of the times on his person, yet holding unbridled chivalry in his heart. His loosely half-up bun tied with a blue ribbon softens the formality of official robes, lending him the unrestrained aura of a wandering noble youth. Black leather boots suit fighting, horse riding and light body arts perfectly. Every ornament adorning him serves both as decoration and proof of his journeys across the mortal world.
