Content notice: Hacker Inc. opens at a funeral. In story mode you are trying to work out why your father died, and what he did with his life. The game does not tell you who was right. Different people give you different accounts of the same events, and what you believe is your decision. Hacking appears as a fictional game mechanic. Nothing here teaches or performs real hacking.

Roadmap

Story & Sandbox Mode

UNCOVER YOUR FATHER'S LEGACY

Your father ran the most important software company of his era and took its secrets to his grave. A story woven through your rise. Everyone who knew him tells a different version of the truth: there is no right answer. What remains is what you choose to believe and who you become because of it.

PLAY IT YOUR WAY

Not here for the story? Go sandbox: pick your start year, set your difficulty, and build in a world that lives without you where rivals found, ship, over-reach, collapse, or grow into giants, and every run writes a different thirty-year history.

About the Game

1970. The IT industry is booming and the door is open to anyone willing to pursue it.

Hacker Inc. is a mix of software development and hacking. Manage your company, grow your team and do some hacking from behind. Protect others, or attack the ones you think are evil. Play through the story of your father's legacy, or go sandbox and write your own. Build your hacker dream team squad.

CHOOSE YOUR SIDE

Like every business in the world, there are two sides to this coin and you need to choose yours. Stay true to the Anonymous (Anon) core idea: fighting for the people, yet sometimes clashing with their own, as each and every group stays true to its vision. No right, no wrong. Whose side you're on doesn't matter what matters is your contribution to society.

MANAGE YOUR TEAM

Found your company in a garage and ride the era. Hire employees; manage the team, their schedules, their payroll, education, and benefits keep the talent at your company, while hijacking some from the others.

COMPETE TO BE THE BEST

Compete with the NPC companies at the difficulty you choose. Develop software and become the best IT company in the world. Market your software pick your streamers and events correctly. And maintain what you've shipped: add features, add-ons, and expansion packs to keep your customers and fan base happy.

DESIGN YOUR OWN OFFICE

Build your own fancy, stylish, elegant office. Set your own standard while you continuously expand your company.

PLAY THE STOCK MARKET

Don't keep your money idle invest it in the right companies and earn dividends. Or just take them over: keep their employees as your own, or make them your subsidiary, so you don't have to do every single thing by yourself.

FINANCE YOUR AMBITION

Need money? Take a loan, just do it carefully, as you might go bankrupt. Perhaps safe is your priority? Then bring in some investors, or take the company public with an IPO.

HACK FROM THE SHADOWS

Malware evolves era-true, boot-sector viruses, email worms, botnets, ransomware. Epidemics ignite, spread, and burn out as the industry fights back. Build your arsenal and pick your side of the wire: patch and protect the world's software… or be the reason it needs patching.

TAKE ON CONTRACTS

Your inbox fills with offers: test a company's defenses, clean up a breach, copy a rival's files, bury a secret. Every job pays. Every job has a side. Build the reputation of the fixer everyone trusts or the ghost everyone fears.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

A preview of what's coming:

  • Manufacturing: Distribution · Hardware · Serv Hosting. Go beyond software: press and ship physical copies, launch your own hardware line, and run the servers that host the world.

  • Software Improvement: SaaS · Open Source. New ways to ship: sell your software as a service, or open-source it and let the community carry your name.

  • Sales Improvement: Seasonality · Subscription · Physical & Digital Sales · Reviews. A deeper market: seasonal demand spikes, subscription revenue, the shift from boxed copies to digital, and reviews that can make or break a launch.

  • In-game Build: Free-form building: raise walls, place windows and doors, and shape every room dynamically design your office down to the last tile.

  • Multiplayer: Take your company online and measure yourself against real players, not just NPCs.

A New Home, a Dangerous Business

Giving our first office a new homeAs we prepare for Steam Next Fest, we’ve been revisiting the place where Story Mode begins. Our original garage served as the starting office, but we felt we could give that opening more character. We’re now working on a house that combines everyday living with the first steps of building a software company. It’s still a work in progress, but we’re happier with the direction. Here’s an early look at the space we’ve been developing.Design preview: An early look at the new starting house. Exterior concept art; final design and in-game appearance may change. Road to Steam Next Fest

Hello everyone,We're working toward our first playable demo of Hacker Inc., with Steam Next Fest as our goal.Your company begins in a garage, but there's a whole world around it to build. We've been working on Palo Alto, refining the software simulation, and developing the tools you'll use to shape your office. Some of that work is easy to show: a city taking shape or a workspace coming together. Other parts involve adjusting how the game plays, improving performance, and making sure its systems work together.Build Mode has its own challenges, and there's still work ahead. We want to share that side of development too: what we're trying, what needs another pass, and what improves along the way. We'll share more here as development progresses. What would you most like to see more closely: the city, running a software company, or building your office?Wishlist and follow Hacker Inc. to keep up with development, and tell us what you'd like to see in the comments.
