GATHER YOUR MEDICAL CREW

Grab your friends and take charge of the chaotic night shift in a crazy hospital. If things go south, at least you'll have someone to throw a clipboard at!

HANDLE THE RUSH

The patients just keep pouring in! Assess their symptoms, put them into the right zones, and apply a specific treatment to each one.

DON'T GET FIRED

Your team has a strict limit of 10 mistakes. Every wrong diagnosis or procedure brings the whole crew closer to getting fired. Most importantly – try not to kill anyone!

NEW NIGHT – NEW RULES

No two shifts are ever the same. Each new night throws a fresh disaster at you, completely breaking the rules! Adapt to constant emergencies to make it to morning.

    Co-op and Mood! 🕹️

Morning, colleagues. Dr. Roma here! 👨‍⚕️Today, let’s dive into the small but necessary things around Night Shift Hospital. First of all, co-op 🤝There are a lot of ways to make a multiplayer game. You can start from scratch if you’ve got the skills, or you can use paid solutions. But even if you buy a solution, it does not guarantee stable multiplayer. You need to know how to implement it! I’d say you MUST know. I am a hardcore co-op gamer. I play around 100 games a year, and more than half of them are co-op. And surely you know the worst nightmares of a co-op gamer: being unable to connect, lag, and frequent drop-offs. So, choosing how we would approach multiplayer was a big decision for the studio as a whole. And we chose Photon Quantum for that. Why do you care? Because it allowed us to build and test the game as a co-op from the very beginning! And it brings a couple of cool features. For example, when you start a game with friends and the person who created it drops out, the game seamlessly migrates to another player, and you continue playing like nothing happened! So, as long as at least one of you stays in the game - it lives! Also, the one who dropped out can reconnect and play normally too.We love Photon Quantum. It is a bit heavy on the dev side, but the result - outstanding. OK! I know! Let’s talk about something more fun!Mood! You know, when you get to a hospital, you are not quite happy. What can make it worse? “Genius” doctors! So, the longer patients wait, the worse their mood gets, and every mistake makes it even worse! Until they freak out and leave!Or worse…And remember: you’ve got 10 slip-ups before you lose! But when you do your job - great! Look at this happy face!I believe that’s all for today.See you in the next dev diary, where we’ll talk about the Doctor’s Room! ❤️And if you want to ask questions or share your doctor dreams, join our Discord!

    Life-Threatening! 🚨⚠️

Morning, colleagues. Dr. Roma here! 🩺So, what is an inpatient department? The easy answer is: almost everything you see in medical series happens in an inpatient department. It is fast and hectic because patients here can die.Our Yellow Room uses the patient-to-device method. The patients are stable enough to be moved between departments, so they can wait. Well, for a while, at least. I wanted you to feel more hands-on with a patient. You move with them to different departments and treat them differently in each one.We have four departments now, and we will expand that to seven in the upcoming months. So, get accustomed to Dermatology, and never forget to clean your patient after treatment! 🧼✨ Fix what’s broken in Trauma! 🦴Give injections in Procedures! 💉And, of course, CATCH those psychos! 💨 By the way, psychos and their running are not just a fun fantasy… That was part of my early reality as a doctor. So now you will feel it too! Hehehe. And for you, the observant ones: yes, we have a new carrying animation! The first one was fun, but you couldn’t see a thing. We thought it was our funny gimmick. Turns out, it was straight-up bad execution. So, praise the new animation - and the ability to see where you are going! I believe that’s all for today 👨‍⚕️See you in the next dev diary, where we’ll talk about the little things and the development process itself. And if you want to ask questions or share your doctor dreams, join our Discord!

    Neeeeeext! 📣

Morning, colleagues. Dr. Roma here! 👨‍⚕️Today I want you to feel the very essence of an outpatient department: hear the noise of people waiting for you to examine them, see the never-ending queue, smell the s… Let’s not overdo it, by all means! 🏥The Green Room is, in every sense, an outpatient department - patients here are stable and have a number of different needs. They can wait. They won’t die from their problems… but will they wait? Do they want to wait? Remember yourself in such a place? Yeah, that’s it! Now you are on the other side! When a doctor is present in a cabinet, patients will start to flow in. They will have icons showing the symptoms they suffer from, and you need to prescribe them the right meds! But in our case - a Superpill! One that cures exactly this patient’s symptoms! 💊✨Sometimes these patients will need sick leave, and you will print one out and SMACK it on their face… Well, you can SMACK it wherever you want, for goodness’ sake!Or they may have a virus on them? Very unsanitary! Then just grab a spray and Pshh! Pshh! Pshh! them! And, of course, there are these “awsaum” people who rush through the queue because they only need to “ask a question”… But you will have to bear with it! Because you took the Hippocratic Oath to help people!I believe that’s all for today.See you in the next dev diary, where we’ll start talking about the Yellow Room 🩺And if you want to ask questions or share your doctor dreams, join our Discord! ❤️

    🏥Behind the “Staff Only” Door

Morning, colleagues. Dr. Roma here! 🩺 It is our first dev diary, so let’s get to know each other! I am a producer and game designer at Knitted Cats. And, well, an actual fourth-generation doctor. So, a lot of the mechanics and design ideas are my way of honoring the whole dynasty of doctors that ended with one guy who loves games more than patients.Okay, now to the game.Night Shift Hospital is a job sim - kinda. I wanted to give you an almost true experience of a doctor on duty in the emergency department, similar to what you see in The Pitt series, but make it fun - not that brutal 🚑I have a couple of stories from my time as a young resident - still unforgettable, even after twenty years. So now I want you to feel it! Lightly, of course! So, let’s start one step at a time: the Hall and Triage. Triage is the worldwide standard for sorting emergency patients. Green is for walking, stable patients. Yellow is for stable patients who are in a dangerous condition. Red is for unstable, near-death patients who require immediate attention!Do not skip them!In the Hall, patients flow in or arrive by ambulances, and you need to sort them into the right - well - tubes! Because why not?And be warned: patients do not wait forever! And if you make a mistake, they all become a bit of a Karen, you know.Check the patients’ vitals and complaints, listen to what they say, and remember: Everybody li...no, no, no. That would turn Night Shift Hospital into a med-school exam.So let’s pretend that we live in a rainbow world and all patients tell the truth! Just pay attention to them, they are suffering, after all, and want someone to care about them.I believe that’s all for today. Sort your patients carefully, and don’t get fired - you only have so many strikes, after all! 🧑‍⚕️See you in the next dev diary, where we’ll talk about the Green Room. And if you want to ask questions or share your doctor dreams, join our Discord!
