About this game

Start with an empty mat and a dream, or take the reins of an established academy with a roster and a reputation to defend. Scout talent from a worldwide pool of free agents, sign the fighters who fit your vision, and forge them into competitors. Then test them where it counts: from packed local opens to the bright lights of a world championship. Every signing, every game plan, every gamble is yours to make, and yours to answer for.

No two saves are ever the same. Every new game builds an entire grappling world from scratch: 80 gyms spread across the globe, each with its own roster, reputation, and ambitions, and more than 1,500 fighters battling it out across the men's and women's divisions. This world doesn't wait for you. Gyms rise to glory and crumble into obscurity. Fighters break through, build bitter rivalries, suffer injuries, and eventually hang up their belts. The prodigy who storms to world gold in one save might never even be born in the next.

Every fight is simulated tick by tick across 41 distinct grappling positions, 34 submissions, and over 130 unique transitions, so no two bouts ever play out the same way. Watch it unfold live with positional illustrations and round-by-round commentary calling the action, or skip straight to the result when the outcome is all you need. Set your fighter's tactics before the first grip is taken and shape the way the battle is fought, but never forget: on the mat, nothing is ever guaranteed.

This is the whole sport, not half of it. The full calendar runs both gi and no-gi events under proper rulesets, and the game knows the difference. Gi-only positions and submissions are locked out the moment the gi comes off. Leg lock legality shifts with belt rank and format. With over 400 events a year across six tiers, from scrappy local opens to invitation-only pro championships, there is always another mountain to climb.

Every fighter is an individual: 15 attributes, a distinct fighting style, a personality of their own, a signature submission they live and die by, and a career that rises or falls on your coaching. Dial in their training with custom focus allocation. Bring in specialist coaches to sharpen their edges faster. And when you are ready to build something that lasts, open a youth academy and raise the next generation yourself, shaping raw kids from age 7 all the way to graduation at 16. The champion you crown tomorrow might be the child you started developing today.

OPEN GUARD v1.1
OPEN GUARD Update v1.1: Fighter Career Update 1.1 is focused on making Fighter Career clearer, deeper and more dependable, alongside fixes and performance improvements that benefit the whole game. Existing saves are supported. Fighter Career is now in Beta Fighter Career has moved from Experimental to Beta. Added a new This Week recap to the Overview. It highlights proficiency and attribute gains, money changes, promotions, injuries, contract offers, goals, ranking movement and available belt assessments. Added clearer first-weeks guidance, navigation attention markers, offer countdowns, contract time remaining and a visible Career Milestones checklist. Added manual saving, settings access and safer quit confirmation within Fighter Career. You can now withdraw from an entered event before event week. Entry and travel costs are not refunded. Training and Fighter Development Reworked the Training screen around four coach plans: Sharpen My A Game, Fix My Holes, Fight Prep and Balanced. Plans can still be fine-tuned manually. Training now shows session allocation, coach picks, known techniques, the next techniques to learn and projected weekly gains. Added a warning before advancing with multiple unused training sessions. Mental and technical attributes now grow through competition, with tougher and more competitive fights providing more experience. Good coaching also improves development. Added clearer physical attribute caps so it is easier to tell when a fighter has reached their current ceiling. Expanded the gym journey with drop-ins, paid memberships, belt assessments, gym interest, offers, signing and contract progression. Added training partners. Their strongest areas can improve related training, with the partnership strengthening over time. Injuries now have clearer status and recovery feedback and correctly affect training. Open Guard Has Left Early Access - Version 1.0
Open Guard Has Left Early Access - Version 1.0 After a long period of development and Early Access feedback, Open Guard is now moving into full release. Thank you to everyone who played, reported bugs, shared saves, and helped shape the game. Version 1.0 focuses on stability, clearer progression, and polishing the overall experience. Full release does not mean support is ending. I will continue to monitor feedback and provide fixes for reproducible bugs, save issues, and other significant problems. Future updates will primarily focus on maintenance, balance, and quality-of-life improvements rather than major new features. The main game mode is now considered complete. Fighter Career will remain labelled Experimental because it began as an unpromised bonus mode during Early Access. It is fully playable and may receive occasional fixes and smaller improvements over time. Version 1.0 Highlights Major match-flow fix affecting both game modes Improved Fighter Career contracts and tournament eligibility New Fighter Career onboarding and navigation indicators Career milestones, offer deadlines, and contract countdowns Tournament withdrawal option Clearer attribute progression and potential ceilings Improved saving and separation between game modes General simulation and long-term career stability improvements Version 1.0 Patch Notes Match Improvements — Both Modes Fixed an issue where one fighter could retain control of every standing or clinch exchange. This issue could cause the same fighter to attempt an excessive number of takedowns while their opponent received no opportunity to act. Standing and clinch initiative is now contested throughout the match. Fighter attributes and game plans still influence who wins these exchanges. Ground-position control and positional dominance remain unchanged. Fighter Career Fixes Fixed gym contracts sometimes remaining active beyond their stated duration. Past tournaments and invalid tournament entries can no longer prevent a contract...Read full article on Community Announcements (Goyski)Patch NotesOfficial
Open Guard - 0.6.3
Open Guard 0.6.3 - The Progression Update Fighter Career growth now works the way it always should have. Driven directly by your feedback. Fighter Career Potential now does what it says. The creator's potential pick always promised faster growth, but career mode was incorrectly reading and applying it, an S tier fighter and a C tier fighter trained at near identical rates. Fixed: potential now genuinely accelerates both your technique training and your physical development, on top of setting your ceiling. Thanks edguy169 for catching this one. Your setup now builds your body, not just your technique. Conditioning previously ignored everything: same results whether you were a broke free agent or a signed athlete at an elite academy. Now your difficulty, your gym, your coaching, and your potential all feed your physical development. An invested fighter develops roughly three times faster than before. The training screen now explains itself. Attributes and techniques are different systems with different sources, and the screen finally says so: conditioning builds your body, training sessions build your techniques, and technique levels directly raise your success chances in fights. Plus a live estimate of when your next attribute point lands. Keep the reports coming, every patch this week started as a Discord post. That is exactly how this is supposed to work.Read full article on Community Announcements (Goyski)Patch NotesOfficial
Open Guard - 0.6.2
Fixed New career fighters could get their identity crossed with a simulated fighter. A bug introduced by the 0.6.1 identity fix meant a newly created fighter's ID could be reissued to a fighter generated during the world simulation, leaving some players starting their career in control of a stranger. Fighter creation now guarantees a unique identity, and if this already hit your save, load it and the game will repair it automatically.Read full article on Community Announcements (Goyski)Patch NotesOfficial
Open Guard - 0.6.1
Open Guard 0.6.1 A hotfix for issues in Fighter Career. Thanks to everyone reporting bugs, keep them coming. Fixed Fighter identities could get crossed after loading a save. A long-standing save-system bug could hand your fighter's identity to a newly generated one, leaving you playing as a stranger with reset stats. This is fixed for good, and if it already happened to you, update and load your save: the game will attempt to find your original fighter and restore them automatically. You will see "Identity records corrected" if it succeeds. The creator's age slider now works. It was being ignored and every new fighter started at age 24 regardless of your choice. Your chosen age now applies, and it matters: age affects your potential, your training, and how long your prime lasts. Found something? Post it in the Discord bug reports channel and it goes straight on the fix list.Read full article on Community Announcements (Goyski)
