About this game

Panzer Island is a pixel anime-styled top-down strategy game with a reactive turn system: nothing moves until you do, and every step counts.

You play as Erika, a scientist who wakes on a ruined island with no memory and three AI military units who only half-remember her. Guide them across drone-patrolled battlefields while fragmented logs and quiet conversations piece together the truth about what happened here.

Move freely with no time pressure. Drones react to every step and attack, plan your route, use terrain, and reach your objective with as much HP as you can spare. Upgrade your units between missions. Unlock the story.

Chapters 1-6 are available now. Chapter 1 (10 stages) is free.

A strategy game about consequences.

Panzer Island is a 2D top-down strategy game built around a single mechanic: every step triggers a reaction. Autonomous drones patrol the battlefield and attack the moment a unit enters their detection range, not at the end of a round, but after each individual movement step. Sprint through open ground and you'll arrive at the objective with half your HP gone. Thread through cover and you might make it clean. The route you choose is the decision.

Three units. One scientist. No memories.

You command three AI soldiers: Katyusha (tank), Nadeshiko (helicopter), and Maria (ship). They were factory-reset in the same catastrophe that took Erika's memory. They don't know what happened. Neither do you. Logs scattered across the battlefield, and fragments of dialogue between missions, add up to a story that the game does not explain for you, you put it together yourself.

Key features:

  • Reactive turn system: move freely with no time pressure; drones react to each step

  • Three distinct units with different move profiles, HP, and combat roles

  • Skill progression: upgrade units between missions with earned XP

  • Original anime character art and pixel-art battlefields

  • Story told through dialogue cutscenes between stages

  • English, Japanese, and German localizations included

  • Chapters 1-6 available now (60 stages); Chapter 1 (10 stages) free

    v0.1.8.100 - Leaderboards Are Back

Challenge Mode leaderboards are back online on our own servers, along with a scoring adjustment and a save-reliability fix. New: Leaderboards are back. The previous third-party leaderboard service went down; Challenge Mode leaderboards now run on our own servers. World map rank badges also refresh automatically while you're browsing it. Improved: Challenge Mode scoring. Moving a unit into range and attacking now counts as a single action, matching how the reference solver scores it, instead of always charging two. Target scores are fairer to reach. Save reliability. A save that fails to load now correctly falls back to its local backup instead of starting a new game.

    v0.1.7.95 - Cutscene & Tutorial Toggles

Story cutscenes and guided tutorials now have their own on/off toggles, so you can play the way you want without switching difficulty. New: Cutscenes toggle, on the world map and in Options. Turn story cutscenes on or off at any time. While on, cutscenes now replay every time you enter a stage so you never miss a scene. While off, they are skipped but stay available in the Cutscenes & Key Visuals gallery. The one-time opening cinematic still plays only once. Guided tutorials toggle, on the world map and in Options. Guided tutorials are no longer tied to Easy. Choose Normal and keep the step-by-step guidance, or turn it off entirely. Easy still keeps its combat aids: fewer enemies, the undo button, and extra help. Changes: Cutscenes no longer play when you resume a stage you left mid-mission, or when you restart a stage. Only entering a stage fresh from the world map plays them. The prompt shown when switching to Normal now explains that guided tutorials still play, and that the undo button and Easy's combat aids do not carry over. The Cutscenes & Key Visuals gallery is now browsable no matter which difficulty you cleared each stage on. Bug fixes: Fixed a graphics initialization crash on startup affecting some Mac and Linux systems.

    v0.1.7.94 - Chapter Progress Fix

This patch fixes a bug that could erase chapter progress, and corrects the difficulty-clear achievements, which were unlocking one tier too high. Bug fixes: Fixed a bug where replaying a chapter you had already completed (for example, to clear it again on a higher difficulty) could wipe your progress in later chapters and lock you out of them. Save files affected by this bug are now repaired automatically the next time they load. Restored chapters keep their difficulty clears; the star ratings of a fully wiped chapter may need to be earned again. Difficulty-clear achievements now unlock at the correct tier. Previously, clearing a chapter on Extreme unlocked the Lunatic achievement, with every other difficulty achievement shifted up by one in the same way.

    v0.1.6.93 - Story Rework & Offline Mode

Story scenes across all chapters have been rewritten for stronger character moments, challenge mode no longer hangs when offline, and audio defaults are quieter out of the box. Story & dialogue: Chapter 1 Stage 8: Nadeshiko openly questions Erika's decision to follow Drona, adding real friction to the team dynamic. Chapter 1 Stage 10: Maria and Nadeshiko now affirm their commitment before the finale, giving the demo's closing beat more room to land. Chapter 2 Stage 4: Katyusha notices a deliberately severed maintenance catwalk - the first hard evidence that Drona engineered the team's exposure. Chapter 3 Stage 1: Katyusha acknowledges how far the team has strayed from any marked route back, reinforcing the chapter's isolation. Japanese and German cutscene translations updated across Chapters 1-5 to match the revised English text. Bug fixes: Challenge mode now falls back to offline mode when the leaderboard server is unreachable, instead of hanging or softlocking. Player name modal can no longer get stuck if dismissed without submitting a name. Leaderboard client enters offline mode on first network failure instead of retrying indefinitely, preventing session-wide freezes. Leaderboard requests now continue to time out correctly even when a modal or pause menu is open over the scene. Other: Lowered default music and SFX volume levels. Updated to Godot 4.7. Android target updated to API level 36.

    v0.1.5.89 - Portrait Mode & Hints

Rotate your device and Panzer Island adapts. Full portrait mode support, a world map hint system, and a new leaderboard round out this update. The unit info screen has been decluttered, and towers now face the right direction when firing. New features: Full portrait mode support. Rotate your device at any time and the entire UI adapts to a taller, narrower layout. Cutscenes, menus, dialogs, and the HUD all reflow for portrait orientation. World map hint system. Stuck on where to go next? The hint system now provides guidance on the world map. Leaderboard integration. Scores are now tracked on a global leaderboard. Polish & bug fixes: Unit info screen decluttered. The HP, XP, and limit break bars have been removed (they are already visible in the stage HUD). The "Skills" section now shows effect values directly instead of duplicating the skill name and description. The panel is taller so content fits without scrolling. Drone towers now face the correct direction when firing, matching the direction of their attack. Player units face right when shooting right, matching the attack direction visually. Fixed the unit detail and level-up dialogs overflowing off-screen in portrait mode. Fixed skill picker display issues. Fixed the objective banner rendering in portrait mode. Fixed queue bar arrow collisions with action buttons in portrait mode. Fixed cutscenes and menus adapting correctly to portrait orientation.
