About the Game

Some lives were never meant to be saved.
A full-scale Hong Kong Noir cinematic novel told through over 1,000 visual cuts.

A hardboiled, fully voiced visual novel set in Hong Kong and Thailand in 2007. While this game serves as a prequel to the 2014-set Red Spider: Vengeance, it is structured as a standalone story and can be fully enjoyed by newcomers to the series.

Features

The Outcomes of Destiny Are Unalterable

Uncompromising violence, love, hate, and betrayal. This work is a heavy, mature noir piece reminiscent of masterpiece Hong Kong movies. Featuring a "pure multi-story" structure with almost no common routes, the narrative branches off into completely different directions based on the chosen partner. Whichever path you choose, the "fatal destiny" of those who cross paths with the protagonist, Lycoris(Yvet), remains unchanged. Within this inescapable doom, her karma as an assassin and her way of life are relentlessly exposed.

The Defining Moment Where a Cold Bond Is Born

What is revealed at the end of these harsh battles is the "origin" of the entire saga—why she, a former assassin, and Yongxiao—two individuals from completely different worlds—came to choose each other as unique partners. Discover with your own eyes how they gazed into each other's darkness and forged an inseparable bond.

Cinematic Full-Still Presentation

Traditional character sprites have been replaced with over 1,000 dynamic visual cuts and fluid camera work, delivering a highly immersive, movie-like experience.

A Feature-Length Story Tracking Six Destinies

Your choices branch into six distinct character routes (Wolf, Zhang Lei, Sam, Chase, Lai, Francis), each revealing the cruel truths behind the incidents from a different perspective.

A Gem of a Soundtrack

A beautiful, atmospheric score composed by Yasunori Shiono (Lufia series) and Yukio Nakajima (Puzzle & Dragons) perfectly colors this world of blood and gunpowder.

"CYCLOPEDIA" feature full of love for Hong Kong cinema

Filled with homages to countless Hong Kong noir classics. Through the "CYCLOPEDIA," which unlocks as you progress, you can enjoy the deep charm of Hong Kong cinema by exploring the explanations of the homages scattered throughout the story.

A Fruit of Passion from Solo Development

A single developer handled the planning, writing, system implementation, and direction, bringing together a cast of 34 voice actors for full voice acting and a legendary composer's original score to create this cinematic drama that pushes the boundaries of the visual novel genre.

About the Donation ver.

Story

Set in 2007. Lycoris, a cold-blooded assassin raised in the underworld organization "Spider Web," is ordered to eliminate her acquaintance, a police officer named Lai. Instead, she defies the order, kills the client—Lai's superior, Lau Kin-ming—and goes on the run from the organization.

With Lai's help, she finds refuge with the triad syndicate "Red Flower Society." Arranged by their leader, Yeung Kwun, she flees to Thailand. But her past refuses to let her go.

Zhang Lei, the head of a rival syndicate who knows her tragic past. Wolf, her fellow assassin and soulmate who shares her darkness. And the relentless police force closing in on all of them.

Set across Thailand and Hong Kong, the blood-soaked fates of those living in the underworld intertwine. For a woman who could only ever live as an assassin, what kind of fate will she choose at the end of this endless cycle of bloodshed (karma)?

Characters

Lycoris (later Yvet)

A cold-blooded assassin raised within the assassin organization "The Web". After murdering her client, she flees to "The Red Flower Society" and escapes to Thailand. However, behind her advanced IT knowledge and combat skills lies a hidden, horrific childhood memory. Her reunion with Zhang Lei, the head of the "Hung Hing" syndicate, triggers a turbulent drama.

Wolf

Lycoris's soulmate who grew up alongside her in the assassin organization since childhood. He is the one whose "soul is closest to her," yet he possesses a nihilistic indifference to life, carrying a dangerous edge that makes him casually risk his life.

Zhang Lei

The head of the criminal organization, the "Hung Hing" syndicate, and a solitary emperor who continues to walk a lonely path. He was once a KTV customer who frequented Lycoris, and at the same time, he is a man of deep karma intimately connected to the deaths of her parents. Beneath his ruthless demeanor, he secretly cares for her well-being.

Sam

An officer at the Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station. Lai's colleague, tasked with investigating the murder of Lau Kin Ming. He possesses high deductive skills and a mysterious ability to see into the true nature of people. Noticing what lies behind Lycoris's cold mask, he finds himself torn between his duty as a detective and his awareness.

Chase

An officer at the Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station. An intellectual detective and colleague of Lai who is investigating the Lau Kin Ming murder case. In reality, he is a mole embedded deep within the police force by the "Hung Hing" syndicate. Due to past events, he harbors a fierce distrust of women, but as he involves himself with Lycoris—who is unlike any other woman—his emotions begin to shift.

Lai

An aloof and good-natured police officer. He is Lycoris's benefactor, struggling to rescue her from the darkness of the underworld. While pursuing the truth behind the case, he closes in on the darkness within the police department, making a grave decision near the end of the story.

Francis

The son of The Red Flower Society's leader. He had kept his distance from the organization, living in the straight world. Initially harboring a strong aversion to Yvet as a member of the underworld, he gradually finds himself drawn to her as he gets entangled in her cruel fate, ultimately making a shocking choice.

[Devlog #4] Reconstructing 2007: Period Details, Locations & UIs

Hello everyone, this is studio wasp.In this issue, we would like to share a major production milestone and detail our commitment to accurately recreating the atmosphere of 2007 Hong Kong.Main Game and Side Story "Cheung Loi Chapter" CG CompletionWe are pleased to announce that the full-scene CG transition for the main story has been completed with over 1,300 images.Additionally, CG production for our bonus content, Red Spider Side Story: Zhangi Lei Chapter (a short story depicting behind-the-scenes events of the first game, totaling over 50 CGs), is completely finished. All graphic assets required for the game are now ready. For the previous game, we produced 530 CGs in six months for a text volume of around 150,000 Japanese characters. Since this title has 300,000 characters, we expected roughly double the amount, but we ended up with nearly 2.5 times as many CGs.Recreating 2007 (Vehicle Models, PDA Part Numbers, and UIs) To capture the exact mood of 2007, we paid close attention to period-accurate props and vehicles:In-Game Vehicle Selection:We identified and modeled five specific car models that were actually running on Hong Kong streets in 2007. Sourcing period-accurate 3D models took time, but it ensures these vehicles blend seamlessly into the cityscape.(Example: The vehicle used to transport Cheung Loi was updated to a Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG W211 — second from the left in the image.)Matching Prop Part Numbers:For the PDA that Yuet considers buying in the story, we researched specific models distributed in 2007 and rendered them in-game.(Example: Yuet selects an HTC Kaiser, known for its Wi-Fi support and easily configurable MAC address — far right in the image.)PC UIs and Gaming Setup of the Era:PC screens operated in-game feature period-accurate Windows OS layouts, older Steam chat UIs, and Microsoft Office designs. Furthermore, when Lycoris plays an FPS (Counter-Strike 1.6) at an internet cafe, she uses a CRT monitor running at 2007 native resolutions to eli...

[Devlog #3] Seeking Cinematic Expression: Reconstructing Memory Scenes

Hello everyone, this is studio wasp. In this issue, we would like to introduce the memory scenes that we reconstructed and newly voice-recorded for this remastered edition. In the original version (released in 2014), most of the protagonist's past was merely recounted through conversations. As a result, the depiction of the protagonist, Lycoris, in Red Spider 2:Exiled centered mostly on her story from the time she fled the assassin organization until she sought refuge in the triad group Red Flower Society. However, a major turning point came when we developed a previous side story (Red Spider Anecdote: The Longest Nite). Voice actor Shishamo brilliantly portrayed three different generations of the protagonist: her childhood (age 12, under her birth name Moon), her young adulthood (age 26, as Lycoris), and her later years (age 34, as Yvet).Taking advantage of this incredible performance, we thought: for this full-illustration transition, why not go beyond explaining the past in dialogue and actually recreate those moments visually and audibly as full scenes? One of these newly recorded memory scenes is the moment when young Yvet encounters Zhang Lei for the first time—a scene that also appears at the beginning of our trailer. Furthermore, in the main game, we have newly drawn and recorded the horrific scene of her parents' murder.By portraying the tragedy she survived not just through spoken lines, but as a scene players directly experience, the heavy weight of her past and her deep connection with Zhang Lei are conveyed much more vividly.Even if you played the original version, we invite you to experience the newly reborn world of Red Spider 2.Please add it to your wishlist!

[Devlog #2] Recreating Hong Kong: Behind the Scenes of Our 2D×3D Hybrid Style

Hello everyone, this is studio wasp.Thank you so much for the wonderful response and warm comments on our first store page announcement. They have been a huge motivation for our development! In this second issue, we would like to introduce the behind-the-scenes process of our background production, which forms the core of our visuals and direction. Our visual goal is to accurately capture the unique "Hong Kong-ness" of 2007 Hong Kong. To push the boundaries of cinematic camera framing, we build functional 3D sets as our structural foundation.Reconstructing Lost Memories: "Mawa Restaurant" (馬華餐廳)Some locations in the game no longer exist in the real world. One example is Mawa Restaurant (馬華餐廳), a famous local spot that has unfortunately closed down.We reconstructed the interior layout in a 3D space based on historical data. While the raw 3D model might look like a very simple blueprint, by placing the characters inside and applying our final 2D-style stylized filters, it transforms into a cinematic shot with deep perspective.Obsession with Authentic Architecture作中のTo bring absolute conviction to indoor spaces like crime scenes within the story, we sourced real Hong Kong residential floor plans from local real estate listings for reference.By building a 3D set of an apartment room based on these plans, we verified how the characters would actually move through the space.Ultimately, we rewrote the narrative prose and even re-recorded parts of the dialogue to perfectly match these verified movements.Capturing "Hong Kong-ness" in the Smallest DetailsThe soul of Hong Kong's streets is hidden in everyday details. For instance, in a construction site scene, we deliberately modeled the city’s iconic bamboo scaffolding piece by piece in 3D, and recreated the ubiquitous blue-and-white striped nylon sheets.By focusing heavily on composition and lighting during the final rendering stage, we managed to capture the exact atmosphere of a pre-dawn construction site where an injured ch...

[Devlog #1] Steam Store Page Now Open & Hong Kong Location Scouting Report

Hello everyone! We are studio wasp, an indie game development circle. Yesterday on June 3rd, we finally opened the Steam store page for our upcoming title, Red Spider 2: Exiled Remastered. Our target release date is January 2027. From now on, we will be sharing our development progress and behind-the-scenes stories through this devlog once a month.A Complete Remake: The Rebirth of Red Spider 2This game is not just a simple port of the original version released in 2014. The biggest change is the transition from standard character sprites to a "fully illustrated cinematic style" for every single scene. We have already revamped the character designs for about 60 characters, including Yuet, and a total of 795 stills have been completed so far. We are redrawing the world of Hong Kong Noir with an overwhelming volume of visual content, so please look forward to it!Hong Kong Location Scouting Report (May 29th–31st)To accurately recreate the atmosphere of 2007 Hong Kong—the setting of this game—we went on a 3-day, 2-night location scouting trip at the end of May to capture background materials. During this trip, we visited Shing Mun Reservoir, Victoria Peak, and of course, the "Yau Ma Tei Police Station:A Cinematic Journey" exhibition currently being held at the Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station! In this game, we are building not only fictional locations like the Tai Mo Shan safehouse, but also real places—and places that have unfortunately ceased to exist—as 3D sets to use as game backgrounds. For example, the famous shop "China Cafe" (now permanently closed), which appeared in the original game, is one of them. Based on collected data and our scouting results, we have recreated its appearance from those days in 3D and integrated it into our event stills. We plan to introduce the construction of these background sets and the production process of the full-scene illustrations in more detail in our next devlog.Upcoming DevlogsLeading up to the release, we plan to share information on...
