About this game

Line up the volleys. Hold the ground. Watch the line break. Warfare 1776 brings the tug-of-war combat this franchise is known for to the fields of the American Revolution, real-time push-and-pull battles where one bad flank can turn a winning line into a rout.

Command troops across tense line-war battlefields, where every position can decide the battle. Skirmishers cling to walls and woods for cover. Line infantry hold open ground with disciplined volleys. Keep your men in step and they'll hold firm. Let the line fall apart and morale can give way, turning order into panic as broken squads flee the fight.

  • Deploy line infantry, skirmishers, riflemen, minutemen, grenadiers, militia, field cannon, and heavy cavalry

  • Position your units based on the terrain you encounter , using cover, open ground, and the line bonus to keep morale steady

  • Call in fire support from howitzers, mortars, and heavy cannons , then spend Influence on commands like Rally and Mass Charge

  • Order squads to march, charge, hold, or fall back as morale swings across the field

Between battles, lead a single army across the northern colonies in real time. Fog of war hides enemy positions until you close the distance. Supplies drain as you travel, fatigue builds over rough country, and the seasons turn from summer heat to winter snow.

  • March your army while managing Supplies and Fatigue, setting the pace for your men

  • Visit towns to recruit Manpower, gather Horses, and stock Munitions

  • Search points of interest like abandoned munitions, wild horses, and a roadside tavern, pushing through forest, hills, and swamp as you go

Begin as a fresh officer with a handful of militia and a name of your choosing. Your background, whether physician, cavalryman, or orator, shapes your starting resources and the choices open to you in events. Every region leans Crown or Patriot, and your actions tip the balance.

  • Create your officer and pick a background that changes your resources, costs, and event options

  • Fight for the Continental Army to retake occupied cities, or the British Empire to quell the rebellion

  • Raise rebellion or enforce loyalty to the crown, swaying each region between Crown and Patriot

  • Make choices in events and follow objectives that arrive as orders, unlocking units and upgrades as you rise in rank

    Why 1776?

Con Here. It's been a minute! If you've been following the Warfare series, you know we've spent a lot of time in the muddy trenches of 1917 and the beaches of 1944. We love those games and the time period, but when we sat down to figure out where to take the series next, we knew we wanted to step out of the World War era and build something that felt new and different; but also similar. So, why 1776? First off, we definitely still wanted an era with firepower; what is a Warfare game without gunpowder? Linear warfare has been long suggested for the Warfare series and we knew it would work great from the earliest prototype. With more soldiers on the field, more lanes, and changing battlefields that affect the course of battles, the era is a perfect fit. We also loved the idea of trading heavy tanks for field cannon and cavalry charges. InspirationI’ve spent the last year learning as much as I can about the American Revolutionary War. I drew a lot of inspiration from books, movies, documentaries, and video essays. Also TV shows like John Adams and Turn: Washington’s Spies which really capture the tension, the shifting loyalties, and the gritty reality of the era have been amazing. It’s a fascinating period in history and it's making for an incredible, messy, tactical sandbox. FactionsWe’ve had some questions about representation of certain factions like the French, Native American allies, and Hessians and I can assure you that you will see them as you move through the colonies. On that note, we’re shooting for historical accuracy where we can, but at the same time we really want the history of the period to be accessible so that people are inspired to learn more about it themselves. The game will feature two full sandbox campaigns, letting you choose between the Continental Army or the British Empire. That means you're getting two distinct strategic experiences depending on whose boots you're filling. As the Continentals you will travel the colonies raising manpower an...
