About this game

Can you rediscover everything humanity has ever created?

New Science is an open-ended combination game that takes you from humanity’s earliest discoveries to the Age of Intelligence.

Begin with the simplest objects and ideas. Combine them to create something new, then use those discoveries to unlock inventions, technologies, cultures and concepts from across human history.

Bread and Knife might make Sliced Bread. Sport and Competition might lead to the Olympics. Keep experimenting and you could discover something that no other player in the world has ever found.

Discover more than 45,000 objects

Build a collection spanning 16 ages of history:

Stone Age → Bronze Age → Iron Age → Classical Age → Age of Faith → Age of Empires → Renaissance Age → Age of Discovery → Industrial Age → Electrical Age → Modern Age → Atomic Age → Space Age → Digital Age → Smartphone Age → Age of Intelligence

Each age introduces new possibilities and increasingly surprising combinations. Collect enough discoveries to advance through history and open the way to entirely new branches of invention.

Make discoveries nobody else has found

New Science is connected to one shared world of discoveries.

Many combinations are already known, but countless possibilities remain undiscovered. Find a valid new combination before anyone else and your name will be permanently recorded as its original discoverer.

Your experiments do not only complete your own collection. They can expand the game for every player.

Experiment with open-ended combinations

New Science is not restricted to a small, fixed recipe book.

Its AI-powered discovery system interprets the objects you combine and determines what they could logically create. Familiar combinations produce satisfying results, while unusual experiments can lead to discoveries you did not expect.

If a combination makes sense, there is a good chance the game will understand it.

Collect, trade and complete your archive

Every discovery becomes a collectible card with its own illustration and place in the global archive.

Complete your collection, search for missing discoveries and obtain rare foil versions of your favourite cards.

Trade duplicate cards with other players to help complete each other’s collections, or hold on to rare finds that show how far you have travelled through history.

Take part in monthly challenges

Each month introduces a new season with fresh objectives and a new leaderboard.

Race to uncover selected target discoveries, work with your team and compete for permanent seasonal accolades.

Leaderboards reset with each season, giving both new and returning players another opportunity to take part.

Play alone or as part of a community

Progress through history at your own pace, compare collections with other players or join a team and work towards shared objectives.

New Science supports:

  • Single-player discovery and progression

  • Global world-first discoveries

  • Player-to-player card trading

  • Teams and shared discoveries

  • Monthly objectives and leaderboards

  • Cross-platform progression and community features

A continually expanding world of discovery

New Science already contains more than 45,000 discoverable objects, with new world-first combinations continually added through player experimentation.

The complete game includes all 16 ages, the full discovery system, online trading, teams, seasonal challenges and future standard content updates.

Play the free demo and begin rebuilding human history one discovery at a time.

New Science now speaks Portuguese, and so do its 45,000 cards

New Science is now playable in Brazilian Portuguese. It is the seventh language, alongside English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese. Brazil was the obvious gap. Portuguese speakers are 4.03 percent of Steam clients on the August 2026 hardware survey, which makes them the largest language group New Science had not translated for, ahead of German at 2.72 percent. They are also, by reputation and by our own experience of them, among the most enthusiastic communities in games. Translating this game is not like translating a game Most games have a script. It is long, but it is finished: somebody writes it, somebody translates it, and the job is done. New Science does not have a script. It has a catalogue of more than 45,000 cards, every one of them invented by a player rather than written by a designer, and it grows by around five hundred cards a day. Each card carries a name and a short definition, so translating the game means translating a dictionary that nobody has finished writing. So the game translates each card at the moment it is invented. When a player combines two cards and makes something nobody has made before, the card is named, defined, illustrated and translated in one go. A Brazilian player who invents something tomorrow gets it in Portuguese immediately, and so does everyone else who finds it afterwards. The back catalogue is done too Translating new cards as they arrive still leaves the 45,000 that already existed, and those were the harder half. That backfill finished overnight. Portuguese now sits level with all six other languages, and at any moment the only cards without a Portuguese name are the handful invented in the last few minutes, which get theirs as the queue catches up. What this means if you play in Portuguese Everything. The interface, the sixteen ages, the card names, the definitions, the wiki. You can play the whole game without meeting English. You can also do the thing the game is really for, which is to make something...

    30,000 cards and counting!

"We have created a game where possibilities are endless." 4 months ago we previewed our New Science Game with just five starting cards. The idea was simple, combine two to three cards, to discover an existing or a new card. These are the recipes. Behind the scenes, we use AI to evaluate every recipe. If the combination doesn't already exist, AI creates it and then generates the artwork. It's the first time we've used live AI in our games, and players have been exploring this system ever since. Our players get to create new cards from whatever recipe they want, and the system decides whether the result is an existing card or a brand-new one. Today, that exploration reached a milestone. 30,000 cards, all discovered by players and created in real time. The 30,000th card was discovered at 02:24 CEST on 5 August 2026, when a player combined Bone Carver with Clothing and produced a new card, Bone Button. Nobody had made this card before. Like every card in New Science, it wasn't written by a designer or shipped in a patch, it emerged from a player's reasoning and the AI systems that support the game. New Science is built around human ingenuity. You begin in the Stone Age and work your way through 16 ages, discovering cards as you go. There is no single way to play. Every player has their own strategy. Some play solo. Others form teams. So far almost 700 people have played our New Science demo, and today one of them reached the 30,000 card milestone. The pace of discovery is acceleratingThe 10,000th card was created on 11 June. The 20,000th on 19 July. The 30,000th card took just 17 days. Players are now discovering close to 600 new cards every day. How many cards can we find? The sky is the limit. Is there an end to New Science Game? No one knows. A better question is, is there a limit to human ingenuity? We know the answer to that for sure, there is no limit. We have created a game where possibilities are endless. Reaching 30,000 cards created through player combinations...

Demo update: longer sessions, and where we're heading

Where we areNew Science is a card combination game. You start with a handful of elements and combine them into new things, working forward through sixteen historical ages from the Stone Age to the Age of Intelligence. Every card is generated the moment someone discovers it, so the catalogue genuinely grows as people play. We're aiming to release around December 2026. The demo now tells you where you standThe demo has always been a bounded slice rather than the whole game, but it wasn't upfront about it. That's changed:You now get a clear heads-up before the demo ends, rather than hitting the end without warningIf you'd already played past the old limit before we introduced it, you keep going for a while longer instead of being cut off mid-sessionThe demo no longer meters your combining. Play as fast as you like within the session Thank you to the people who really dug inSome of you have made hundreds of cards in the demo. A few have made thousands. We didn't expect that, and it's been the single most useful thing for working out what the full game needs to be. If that's you, we've left a note for you inside the game, to say 'Thank you'. What a wishlist actually does for usWe're a very small team with no publisher. Wishlists are most of how Steam decides whether to show a game to anyone, so they're the difference between launching to an audience and launching into silence. If you've enjoyed the demo, adding the full game to your wishlist is genuinely the most helpful thing you can do, and it costs nothing. And please 'Follow' us as well. And like us if you see us on social media... Thank you for playing. Tell us what's broken. Email if you like (hello at newsciencegame . com) or tell us in game in the "Hub".
