About this game
The arena keeps folding into something new while hundreds of enemies stream at you the whole time, ensuring you don't get to relax (until you find a way to break the game).
What you fight on
- Torus: like a donut, but with more math
- Möbius strip: a rubber band that won't lay flat
- Hyperbolic disc: objects in mirror may be closer than they appear
- Helicoid: for people that really like taking the stairs
- Quantum Tunnel: a tube, but you could swear you've seen that XP drop before
- ...and more, opened over time
What you fight with
90+ weapons from rapid-fire machine guns, to charge up lasers, to orbiting drones that fire on their own accord. 6+ characters that fundamentally change the rules of the game; no stat tweaks here. Surveyor auto-shoots so you just focus on positioning. Cynosure gives you control of the aiming with the second stick. Loxodrome changes the genre entirely.
How a run goes
The gameplay is a mashup of Geometry Wars and Survivor's-Like. Bright lights, electronic music, mind-bending shapes, non-Euclidean physics and absolute hordes of enemies all combine in this fast paced arena shooter. Kill enemies, collect their XP to level up, which grants you more weapons or upgrades. Push to collect as many as you can, because there's an end boss waiting for you.
What you're looking at
Imagine 1979's Asteroids if they had more processing power to work with than a calculator. There's so much 3D in 2D trickery going on with the visuals, it will have you wondering why I didn't just make the game 3D instead.
Between runs
Each run lasts 15 minutes plus however long you take to kill the boss. Between runs you gain permanent meta progression by spending Stars on the Star Map. The further you progress, the more powerful the upgrades become, allowing you to tackle even greater challenges.
The arena hasn't moved yet. You think you understand it. You don't. (Probably.)

The playtest is live. Play it now through July 26.
It's open. Soliton Burst is a survivors-like where the arena doesn't stay flat. Mid-run the ground folds into a torus, then a Möbius strip, a hyperbolic plane, a wormhole. There's no edge to run to. The world curves back on itself and you keep fighting on the warped space. The playtest is live right now and closes Sunday, July 26. If you already have access, it's in your library! Go play. If you don't, hit Request Access on this page and you're in; grants go out through the window.A run takes a handful of minutes: pick your weapons, pick which portal to walk through, and fight the horde across whatever shape the arena becomes next. Then it's gone. This is the window to play it, and the feedback I get here is what the rest of development runs on. Come break it.Not ready to jump in? Folded into Steam Bullet Fest 2026
Hi. I've been building Soliton Burst on my own for a while now, and this is its first time at a Steam fest. Bullet Fest 2026 runs 8-15 June and kicks off Monday at 10am Pacific. The pitch: it's a survivors-like where the arena keeps folding into something new. Torus. Möbius strip. Klein bottle. Helicoid. The shape changes mid-run and your bullets curve along whatever you're standing on. There's an end boss waiting at 15 minutes and hundreds of enemies between you and it.I started this because I wanted to play a survivors-like where the LEVEL was the part that kept evolving. Most of the genre treats the arena as a constant. Same map, same enemies, just bigger numbers. So I built something where the shape itself responds to your progression, and the upgrades are how you cope.A few specifics from where it currently sits: 90+ weapons that behave differently depending on the geometry. 6+ characters that each play like a different game underneath (twin-stick, forced-forward runner, Asteroids inertia, classic survivors-like). 14 bosses that fight like they wandered in from a different genre by accident. 45 topology modifiers that show up uninvited. It's not done yet. It will keep changing shape between now and launch. If any of that sounds interesting, the wishlist button is the green one. See you on the other side.Follow Soliton BurstBluesky — @solitonburst.bsky.socialYouTube — @SolitonBurstThreads — @solitonburstTikTok — @solitondevMastodon — @SolitonBurst@mastodon.gamedev.placeitch.io — solitonburst.itch.io (live at demo)Read full article on Community Announcements (Hiddeknight)
