About this game

Step behind the counter of your own emporium, where adventurers, alchemists, and creatures of uncertain allegiance come to spend their gold. You set the prices, stock the shelves, and manage whatever walks through the door. Whether anyone leaves satisfied is largely up to you.

Run It Your Way

Order from a network of shadowy suppliers, fill your shelves before the doors open, and serve a clientele that ranges from desperate to dangerous. Open when you're ready, close when you've had enough. Nobody tells you what to sell or what to charge. Push your prices to the edge of what the market will bear, refuse a customer, ignore a supplier. The shop answers to you and no one else.

Let the Place Rot

Blood, grime, and things you'd rather not identify build up on the floor as the days pass. Good. Your customers are not the sort who want a clean shop. The filthier the emporium, the more at home they feel, and the longer they linger over your shelves. Anyone who came here expecting a tidy storefront wandered into the wrong establishment.

Guests You Did Not Invite

Thieves slip items into their coats the moment your back is turned. Confront them yourself or let your guard zombie deal with it. Strange travelers arrive between shop days with requests you may regret accepting, and the occasional bulk buyer empties an entire shelf in one visit, for better or worse.

Some Customers Need Convincing

Now and then something comes through the door that will not be reasoned with. It thrashes through your shop, scatters your stock, and drives off paying customers. Reach for the hammer under the counter and settle it the direct way. Nobody is calling the guard, and the guard would not come.

A Market That Never Sits Still

Plagues spike demand for medicine. War bands drain your weapon stock in days. A witch-hunter edict turns a shelf of potions into contraband nobody will touch. These are not small daily price wobbles, they reshape the whole economy, and you get warning before each one arrives. Rumors reach the shop first. Stockpile ahead of the crowd and you make a fortune. Guess wrong and you are sitting on a room full of goods nobody wants.

Grow Your Workshop

Your shop starts small, but locked chambers wait behind every door. A cave of ingredients. A fog-shrouded swamp. A graveyard with its own supply line. A forge for weapons and an alchemy lab for potions. Unlock rooms, arrange shelves and furniture to build your reputation, and raise zombie employees to handle the work you can't cover alone.

The Grimoire

Serve enough customers and survive enough events, and your fame unlocks better suppliers, rarer recipes, and an ancient Grimoire holding a skill tree of permanent upgrades. The shop you end up with looks nothing like the one you started with.

Five languages, new display settings, and a wide-screen fix

Five languagesThe shop now speaks English, Russian, German, Spanish and French. Every menu, item, recipe, contract and line of the Whispering Skull's dialogue is translated, and the game picks your system language automatically on first launch. You can change it any time in Settings. An honest note: every language other than English is machine translated and has not yet been reviewed by a native speaker. It has been checked for the things that break a game, missing text, broken formatting, clipped labels, but not for the things only a native ear catches. If something reads wrong, or worse, unintentionally funny, please tell us. We would rather fix it than pretend it is fine.AudioInterface sound now has \its own volume slider\, separate from sound effects. You can silence button clicks without losing footsteps, crafting and the tillFixesFixed the billboard and journal panels overlapping on 16:10 and other non-16:9 displaysFixed confirmation buttons reading True and False instead of Yes and NoFixed goods knocked off a shelf sometimes landing behind itSped up the customer hit reaction and enlarged the impact effectCleaned up a batch of English typos and punctuation across items, contracts and world events

Dark Workshop 0.2.0: The Customers Are Not Grateful

Dark Workshop 0.2.0The demo has had two weeks of heavy work. The shop is prettier, meaner, and considerably more opinionated about how you run it.Customers can turn on you. Most browse politely. Some sweep your stock onto the floor and take a swing at the furniture. Keep the hammer handy, or put a Guard on the payroll.Your furniture breaks. Shelves and racks take real damage now, and somebody has to repair them.Filth pays. A spotless shop unsettles the clientele. Let the place rot a little, and they will thank you for the atmosphere. Prices have consequences. Customers judge every item on the shelf and quietly buy fewer when you get greedy, instead of simply walking out.Haggling at the counter. Hold firm and find out whether they cave, counter, or leave. Your zombie cashier never blinks. Every screen rebuilt on new art, and the Grimoire is now a sprawling web of 54 skills.Plus a long list of fixes to queues, thieves, saves, and audio.Full notes on the website. Come tell us how it goes on Discord.
