About this game
========= SUMMARY =========
‘Ruin Adventurer’ is an automation game with survival and programming elements. Use your robots to ensure your survival, automate resource gathering, and ultimately escape the ruins.
========= DISCLAIMER =========
This game was developed by a single developer as part of a final-year project for a higher school leaving certificate (Swiss education system, Higher Technical College). The aim of this project was to develop a video game and market it on Steam. The game is currently just about ready for an Early Access release and will be significantly expanded over the coming months.
========= GAMECONTENT =========
The current version of the game includes the following features/mechanics:
A procedurally generated map with 10 levels, each measuring 20x20 tiles. The map is modelled on an abandoned ruin or labyrinth.
Randomly distributed resources of various types
Survival mechanics involving hunger, thirst and energy, which must be maintained by mining resources
Programming mechanics for robots, which are the only way to interact with the game world
Research and progression systems that utilise the automated resources and items crafted from them
Save and load mechanics for a game state and unlimited user-created scripts
Infinite resources (provided the in-game price is paid) (Disclaimer: No real money, microtransactions, in-game currency or similar)
The game state is hardcore – there is only one life. If you fail to meet the survival mechanics, the save file is lost and you must start again.
You are provided with a robot at the start. Use this robot and the game’s own programming logic to ensure your survival and make progress. Expand your robot fleet and optimise your scripts to make better progress.
========= STORY =========
You play an adventurer who is exploring an unexplored cave and has an accident. Fortunately, you were rescued by the little robot ‘Bob’, who brought you to B.O.B. To get back home, you must now explore the ruins and unlock the lowest level. But what was this ruin for? What purpose did it serve? All these questions will only be answered through exploration. (Disclaimer: The relevant stories will be released in Q4 2026)

Thesis & Future
Hello everyone,Let’s start with the most important news (for me): I’ve passed my final thesis! Thank you all so much for your support. From now on, the game is no longer a school project, but my personal project. And now… on to the next steps.Update frequencyAccording to the current plan, there will be a major update every quarter – that is, every three months – featuring the content listed on the shop page. Any additional content that catches my eye or is reported by you will be incorporated into the updates wherever applicable and feasible. Apart from these major updates every three months, there will only be minor hotfixes and/or patches as and when necessary.Communication FrequencyGenerally speaking, there will also be a communication every three months, covering the update, the changelog and the next steps. In addition, there will be occasional development updates on the current state of development. This is my way of showing that the game isn’t being put on the back burner. Alongside my personal life and my job, I (unfortunately) cannot guarantee or facilitate any regular updates apart from the quarterly ones.Current Development Status & OutlookSince submitting my thesis (i.e. my last update here on Steam), I have continued working on the game and have been preparing version 0.2.0. Of the 8 tasks planned for this update so far, 2 have been completed. Version 0.2.0 is scheduled for release at the end of September and will (currently) include the following updates:(Completed) Robot script execution is now saved and correctly resumed upon loading, which was not the case previously(Completed) Minor performance improvements through the adjustment of light sources (from lights on the walls to lights on the robots)Better, new and more sounds (sound effects and music)Improved tutorialRevision of the options menuRevision of the UIDedicated script window, which can be accessed and used from the main menuIf you notice any features, bugs or other issues, you can log them ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Finnchen123)AnnouncementsOfficial
Release & Thesis
Hello everybody,Let me start this one by saying Thank you! This game was a hard one to make due to the time constraints of my thesis and I was worried about the EA Release. The game is only barely worthy of an EA Release but still I got some awesome people trying it out and some awesome curators willing to write some Feedback and push this game. So yeah... Thank you!ReleaseThe current release works but it obviously needs some improvements. I hope you still enjoy the game in its current state. I am currently working on finishing my thesis so the next update wont be ready until atleast end of June but don't worry, the next update will come!ThesisAs you have already been made aware of (On the store page and in this event), this game is my thesis for a higher diploma. I am currently in the process of finishing the documentation (Those of you who have written a thesis: You know the pain -.-) and have to finish it by the end of today. So the next few hours count the most for me as I can add all statistics and reviews to the documentation for the next 10 hours. After that, they are still important to me but not for the thesis anymore. That's why I ask this of you: If possible please leave an honest review and/or try the game. I don't want only positive reviews because I strongly believe that constructive criticism (Even if it ends up being a "Not recommended") is really important.The next event I publish will hopefully be the announcement that I passed the thesis. I should know the result on June 25.Have a great morning/day/evening/night and see you all!Regards,Finnchen // NicolaRead full article on Community Announcements (Finnchen123)
