About this game

A Safe Tavern. Dangerous Isles. One Ancient Chest.

Start each voyage from a cozy tavern hub, then sail into cursed islands filled with tactical grid battles, strange treasure, risky choices, and enemies that may become allies. Fight smart, bring back what you can, stash your best loot, and return stronger for the next expedition.

At the heart of the tavern waits the Ancient Chest: a mysterious relic that offers quests, unlocks classes, grants long-term bonuses, helps preserve mastered skills, and slowly reveals why the Isles of Vaultara are falling to corruption.

Chest & Compass: Isles of Vaultara blends cozy preparation with dangerous tactical expeditions. Plan your route, know when to retreat, and decide what kind of adventurer you want to become before the next voyage begins.

Tactical Expeditions

  • Turn-based, grid-based combat where movement, attack range, terrain, and line-of-sight shape every fight.
  • Speed-driven turns let faster units act more often, making timing as important as raw damage.
  • Ever-changing islands bring fresh layouts with height changes, traps, treasure chests, barrels, hazards, and enemy spawners.
  • Mid-expedition boat visits give you a chance to buy supplies, stash treasure, trade gear, or retreat before pride gets expensive.

Bring Something Back

  • Store recovered equipment and supplies at the tavern so future expeditions start with better options.
  • Upgrade storage and improve the trader boat by selling valuable finds and parts.
  • Complete Ancient Chest quests to unlock classes, choose boons, and strengthen future expeditions.
  • Lock especially good bonuses, track quest progress, and build long-term advantages between voyages.
  • Collect vaultstones to help enchanted gear keep more of its magic when you sail away.

Build Your Adventurer

  • Unlock and switch between 7 classes: Adventurer, Warrior, Trader, Healer, Paladin, Thief, and Mage.
  • Gain experience for active and passive skills, then carry mastered abilities into future expeditions through the Ancient Chest.
  • Pair your class skill with a second active slot to build your own mix of spells, tricks, and combat tools.
  • Equip weapons, armor, and two accessories with stat bonuses that change how you approach each island.
  • Use potions, herbs, spellbooks, class skills, and clever positioning to survive escalating waves.
  • Focus on one carefully equipped hero or build a recruited crew ready to move at your command.
  • Turn enemies into allies through defection and recruitment mechanics tied to Charisma and class abilities.

A Tavern Full of Secrets

  • Use the tavern as your persistent hub for storage, class changes, the Ancient Chest, the Adventurer's Log, and NPC conversations.
  • Follow the trail of corrupted islands, ancient magic, and a guarded vault hidden beneath Vaultara.
  • Discover new spells, treasure, passive effects, and strange relics that can reshape an entire expedition.
  • Adventure to a soundtrack that blends tavern shanty warmth with electronic momentum.
  • Play across 5 save profiles with support for English and Polish, Steam achievements, and keyboard, mouse, and controller input.

Update 1.3.1 — More Room for Your Crew

Update 1.3.1 is now available! A full party no longer means leaving a valuable recruit behind on the island. Version 1.3.1 expands character recruitment and brings rescued companions aboard your boat. Recruit beyond the party limit You can recruit characters even when your active party is full. Overflow recruits temporarily exceed the party limit and head for the boat. When there is room in the party, you can order a recruit to join the battle under AI control or escape to the boat. Passenger slots on the boat Recruits can board the docked boat without forcing it to depart immediately. The HUD shows your current passengers and remaining capacity. When every passenger slot is occupied, the boat departs automatically and brings the rescued characters safely to the tavern. Recruits waiting ashore track the boat's return, and each waiting character helps shorten its return time. Smarter allied recruits AI-controlled recruits navigate around obstacles more reliably and fight from an appropriate distance. They can use offensive spellbooks. When the situation becomes dangerous, they can retreat, heal, and continue toward the boat. The update also includes a new minimap, clearer party and passenger information, and many improvements to combat, crew management, and the interface. Thank you for playing and for all your feedback!

Major Update 1.3 — Crew & Cargo is out now!

Major Update 1.3 — Crew & Cargo is here! Ahoy, adventurers! When we first announced the Crew & Cargo Update, our chart looked simple enough: permanent crew progression, rescued recruits, persistent equipment, Deck Cargo, better storage, and deliveries from Franek the parrot. We built every bit of it. Then the update did what updates sometimes do — it refused to stop growing. Crew & Cargo became a much bigger rebuild of how an expedition begins, develops, and finally makes it home. Your crew stays — if you make it worth their while... Rescue castaways and invite them to join your permanent roster. Permanent crew members remember their level, XP, stat points, class, passive, equipment, and inventory between expeditions. Pick the crew for your next voyage, inspect every candidate, and keep the whole gang organized from the tavern. Not every recruit has to stay. Send them on their way for a reward and a chance to pass what they learned on to the rest of your crew. Too much loot? That is what the boat is for Deck Cargo gives spare loot a temporary home when your crew's pockets are full. Franek can carry overflow items back to the boat while you keep exploring the island. Move, merge, retrieve, or sell cargo through the rebuilt storage and trade screens. Once the island is cleansed, gather the survivors, sort out the final loadout, and decide what everyone gets to carry home. The Ancient Chest has a few new tricks Manage the hero and every permanent crew member from the Character Book and shared storage. Complete Ancient Chest quests, level it up, unlock Crew Upgrades, and discover Ancient Boons. Develop classes and master active skills across multiple expeditions. Dig through the new item encyclopedia, achievement overview, clearer class guide, and expanded progression pages. Every expedition deserves a proper send-off Whether you cleanse the island, escape with the haul, or lose the crew, each outcome now gets its own expedition summary. See what your crew achieved, wha...
