    Steam Deck and Controller Support

Steam Deck Support The Red Weight now has full controller support, and a version of the interface built for the Steam Deck's screen. On the Steam Deck, the game runs at the panel's native 1280x800 instead of letterboxing a 720 canvas, and I went hunting for more room on top of that, shaving 10 extra pixels out of the title bar and handing every reclaimed row to the story text box. The interface and the text box render noticeably larger on Deck. The story text steps up from 22px to 26px, the UI text scales up around it, and the scene art keeps exactly its original framing. More words on screen, bigger words, and nothing cropped. Two Modes InterchangeableThe game now fully supports a controller and a mouse. If you play with a mouse, nothing changes. No prompts, no toggles, no controller chrome anywhere; the game is exactly what it was before this update.Pick up a controller, on a desktop PC or on the Deck, and the interface wakes up around it: a selection appears, and every surface in the game becomes reachable without touching the pointer. Touch the mouse again and all of it vanishes on the spot. There is nothing to configure and no mode to switch. The two input styles just trade places, mid-session, as often as you like. For anything that genuinely wants a pointer, flick the right stick: a cursor appears and the stick drives it like a mouse, with A as your click. You can switch, for example, during a scanner mini-game to the controller and back seamlessly. Each mode has its own colors. You can tell at a glance which mode you're in. Mouse play keeps the interface's copper accents. The warm highlight the game has always had.Controller play recolors those accents teal, and selection follows the same language: the selected button fills teal, the selected choice row fills teal with dark text, artwork tiles get a green outline, and a held button darkens until you release. When the mouse takes over, the copper accents come back.Original orange.New teal for controllers. The Cont...

Localization, Upcoming Steam Deck And MacOS support

The Journey So FarIt's been a little over a month since the steam page and demo have been released. Thank you all for taking a look, and playing the demo. For those who left me feedback, that's been super helpful! Even if its just telling me you enjoyed the demo or did not enjoy it.I've been very busy making small changes, especially around quality of life. Overall though no bugs have been reported and the reception has far exceeded my expectations.LocalizationAs I mentioned in my first post localization is a top priority. With this update I am introducing the following additional languages: Arabic, Spanish, French, and Russian. For now the localization is for all in game text, including the UI. Voice clips will come after, probably closer to release. Verifying voice clips takes a long time. Voicing this game has been the most difficult task in the project so I do want to push it back closer to when the game is near a final state. Additionally voice clips take up a lot of space. I am looking at options of how to deliver the localized voice without having to ship all languages to everyone and just take up disk space.Steam Deck Support IncomingI heard the feedback. I ordered a Steam Deck. The port should be straight forward but I did note that the game uses a slightly higher native resolution than the Steam Deck. I want to make sure its accessible and players can read the text clearly. MacOS SupportOnce the Steam Deck port is done I will work on supporting MacOS. This game will probably run fine on a Mac Neo.More Demo Content IncomingI hope to add about half of chapter 3 to the demo. Chapter 3 is considerably longer than the first two chapters, which are meant to be more of an intro. Chapter 3 is also where consequences start to build up, and the player has a lot more locations and characters to interact with.Expect this early to mid September.

    Demo Quality of Life Update

Over the weekend I pushed out several updates that are quality of life to the demo:An end screen will greet you at the end with the choices you made.Amara's conversation has been extended to help find the different outcomes.Najma's vignette portrait has been replaced with one that represents her better.Surfaced a bit more reactivity to the player's choices. If you have already played through the demo know that these changes are not significant. What's Next?I will continue working on the game with an early 2027 release in mind. The story is already written and all the main systems are built so it's all about landing the content, polishing and testing it. Choice and consequence are top of mind as I believe they provide the best experience to the player in this genre.I want to add part of or all of chapter 3 to the demo because that is were the player has more freedom and many more consequential choices.I have begun experimenting with localization and I think I have a few languages already translated for content in the first two chapters to a degree I am happy with. This includes both text and voice clip. I will continue working on this and see if I can release this soon or with chapter 3.Until then, enjoy the private reserve, the soundtrack and try not to spook Petrov too much. He could use some sleep too.
