About this game

ABOUT THIS GAME

Save the Red Box: Prologue is a minimalist precision platformer designed to test your reflexes and mastery of movement. This prologue features one highly-concentrated level specifically crafted to showcase the game's core mechanical loop.

The Chaos Loop

The objective is simple but the execution is brutal. Your mission is divided into two intense phases:

  • Trigger Chaos: Your first goal is to reach the Red Portal.

  • The Escape: Touching the Red Portal activates Chaos Mode. You must then navigate your way back to the Green Portal while the environment becomes significantly more dangerous.

Lethal Hazards

To survive, you must master your timing against a variety of environmental traps:

  • Fireballs & Spinning Fire Bars: Rapid projectiles and rotating beams that require frame-perfect movement.

  • Thwomps & Spikes: Heavy crushers and lethal floors that leave zero room for error.

  • Cannons & Lasers: Constant suppressive fire and precision beams designed to block your path.

Minimalist by Design

In this prologue version, the experience is stripped down to its bare essentials. Visuals consist entirely of boxes, and there is no sound, ensuring that your focus remains 100% on the pure mechanics and physics of the gameplay.

The Road Ahead

This version serves as a technical showcase for the foundation of the project. The full version of the game is planned to feature:

  • 50 Challenging Levels with increasing complexity.

  • Polished Visuals and environmental details.

  • New Deadly Traps to further test your platforming skills.

Achievements Working and Some Bug Fixed

Hi everyone, i've finally got achievements and leaderboards working again! I promised this in the previous update, but it took a while to deliver. I also wanted to fix some bugs i found and, because i felt the traps in chaos mode were a bit too brutal, i decided to do some balancing. They're more lenient now, but you shouldn't underestimate Chaos mode! :D The errors fixed are as follows:The detecting stakes no longer further than they should, and they no longer kill the player even if they don't touch the stakeNow, touching the wall from the side properly resets your two jumps (touching the wall from the same side again will not reset it; you must touch it from a different side). There is no longer any delay in dash and jump the spheres; the action happens as soon as the button is pressThe collision masks on the traps have been reduced in size, meaning you now have to get much closer to die.

    Second Update Released

Hello everyone, I mentioned a while ago that I would be releasing the second update, and that day has finally arrived. Although I'm still at the beginning, I think I've made good progress in 3 months. The game mechanics are completely finished, meaning all systems are working now. My next focus will be on polishing and designing new levels.Meanwhile, and most importantly, I'm now working with composer and illustrator, and I think they'll do a great job. I have some new things, but I don't feel ready to show them yet. Now, when entering Chaos mode, there's a burst of white light, a red smoke effect appears in the background, and all objects on the screen turn black (including useful objects). Previously, there was only a red filter in the background, and it was barely noticeable, and there was also a rain of red particles. I thought that entering Chaos mode should make it feel like it's actually changing things, so I made this change. There's now a star and diamond system; it's possible to collect 3 stars in a level. You can earn the first star by completing the level in less time than the allotted time, the second star by dying fewer times than the allotted number of deaths, and the third star by collecting the diamonds in the level. The star and diamond system isn't crucial in the prologue version, but in the main game, it will serve as both a challenge and a way to unlock new game modes.Several bugs have been fixed, but I'm sure there are still some out there, and I'm waiting for you to discover them :D3 new background music tracks have been added, and more will be added. The collision area of most traps has been slightly reducedI haven't finished the achievements and ranking lists yet; I'll take care of those and release a new update, but I won't make a separate announcement about it. I hope you like the new update.

    Second Update Coming Soon

Hello everyone, the development process for Save the Red Box is progressing steadily. I know updates and announcements take a little longer, but i have a paid job and can dedicate my free time to this game.I conduct various gameplay tests and i work not only on making the game fun, but also on making it feel good, so if there's a big change in the game, the player should really feel it.To get straight to the point, in chaos mode, new traps are added, and the speed, number of shots, rotation speed, etc., of existing traps are increased, but visually, the player couldn't really feel like they were in Chaos mode; only a red filter appeared on the screen and red particles rained down. i realized this wasn't enough. Now, in chaos mode, in addition to adding new traps and increasing the speed, number of shots, etc., of existing traps, a white flash explodes first, and a red smoke effect appears on the screen. Then, almost all objects on the screen turn completely black, except for diamonds, jump and dash orbs, checkpoints, and the finish portal. I haven't yet found a better way to distinguish traps from aids; the player shouldn't miss the jump/dash orb thinking they're approaching a trap, or mistake it for a jump/dash orb and headbutt it. Furthermore, the background music speeds up and becomes distorted.I don't know when this update will be released, but please give me some time to release it as well as I can, and feel free to give any feedback. Finally, for comparison, i'll include screenshots of both the old and new chaos mode:

    First Major Update Released

Hello everyone, yesterday i announced that i would be updating the prologue version, and i'm now adapting the things i've been working on to the prologue version and releasing it for you. Since the prologue version only has one episode, i made the first episode more condensed than the normal version, so it's consequently more difficult, in fact, i'd say it's quite a difficult episodeVisual UpdatesThe particle effect created when the character is thrown has been reworked; instead of leaving a trail, it now creates a tiny wind effectA particle effect occurs when the character makes its second jumpA particle effect occurs when the character clings to the wallNow a particle effect is forming behind the lava ballsThe bullet fragmentation effect has been reworked, and now a smoke effect appears behind themThe particle effect created when the laser touches the wall has been renewedA particle effect is created when gears rub against a wallNow, a star-like sparkle effect appears on top of the flame sticksNow in chaos mode, there's a red star showerNow, in chaos mode, the red filter enlarges on the screenThe bubble effect on the lava has been reworkedTraps that were active in chaos mode but not in Normal mode are now completely invisible in Normal mode, reducing visual clutter and increasing the element of surpriseGameplay UpdatesThe character is now more agile and its movements are more decisiveJump and dash spheres have been added, now theoretically it's possible to jump and dash indefinitelyNow, the speed, direction, type, angle, etc. of all objects can be adjusted manually. This allows me to place traps with infinite variationsFlame sticks can now have multiple armsThere are now three types of lava balls; the first only rises upwards, the second moves in a tilted direction to the right or left, forming tail balls behind it, and the third breaks apart when it reaches its maximum distanceThere are now five types of laser towers; the first can fire in 8 directions, the secon...

I Will Update the Prologue Version Gradually

Hello everyone, when I first launched the prologue page, i announced that i wouldn't be making any updates other than bug fixes. However, during the development process of the main game, i realized there was a night-and-day difference between the prologue version and the main game, and therefore i decided to update the prologue version as well. Also, while the prologue version does have various trap types, i still felt they weren't varied enough, so i added much more advanced trap types to the main game. In addition, i created a new system where all values (distance, speed, direction, angle, etc.) can be entered manually, giving me the ability to place traps with infinite variations. I actually wanted to make their size adjustable as well, but I couldn't because it would naturally distort the appearance.Furthermore, I didn't just add new traps; i also added new mechanics, the most important of which are undoubtedly the jump and dash spheres. In theory, you can jump and dash infinitely, but of course, you'll encounter various obstacles, so it won't be as easy as you think. I want to present you with a real challenge, but I'm also working hard to make it feel fair. Finally, I want to remind you that I regularly share updates on the game's official YouTube channel and Discord community server, so don't forget to follow and join!Official Youtube ChannelDiscord Community Server
