High speed, anti-grav racing within intense phases synced to the song’s segments. Control your speed, drifts, strafes, and boosts while the emotion of the music changes your abilities and even the world around you. It’s time to put the “racing” into “music racing.”

About this game

SEAR is a high-speed anti-gravity racing game where every race is built around a single song. As the song moves through its phases, the course transforms with it, bringing new environments, new challenges, and new intensity.

You're not just hearing the music. You're surfing it.

Every phase runs for a set period of time, driven by the song. The winner of each phase is the racer in the lead. At the end of the song, whoever won the most phases wins the race. It's an entire Grand Prix run over the course of a single song.

Each SEAR level is a crafted, bespoke experience inspired by the music, like a music video in racing game form.

There's no game over in SEAR. Mistakes can cost you rank and speed, but they don't stop the song and they don't end the race. From the first phase to the last, the music plays through.

Reswaves are gifts from the song that you can catch to power up. They might create a speed boost, laser fire at a rival, or light in an otherwise dark phase. Every song and even every phase might have different Reswave effects, based on what the music is doing at that time.

No need for frame-perfect timing here. Stay focused on the race and hit or even mash the button to catch the reswave and get its effect.

SEAR's controls combine kart-style mini-boost drifting with tight anti-gravity strafing, while turning into a strafe gives you rapid course correction without losing momentum. Together they produce a driving style that feels new but becomes instinctive quickly.

Feeling hungry? Strive Mode is built for competition, with full mechanics and vehicle control suite.

Rather chill tonight? Vibe Mode brings a heavier focus on the music and the experience over technical skill.

There’s no wrong way to play. SEAR is built for both.

Every vehicle has customizable UI light bars directly on it, saving you from having to hunt all over the screen for vital information. In these lights you can see your turbo count, rank, remaining time, or even the strength of your lead – whatever you assign to them – all positioned directly within your sightline.

SEAR Devblog: Playtest #1 is on the way!

Hey everyone, This is SEAR's first development blog on Steam. However, our Founder/CEO Adam has been documenting the game's progress for years over on our official site. First is the announcement of our first Steam Playtest, which you can sign up for directly on the Steam page! (Remember to wishlist while you’re out there!) The date range on the playtest is still TBD as of right now, but I will share it the moment we have it. We’re getting closer to beta every day, but the playtest will be a relatively early build of the game which may still be missing some of the options menu items and UI bells and whistles we need to have in place for the demo. But the core gameplay experience of phased racing through song segments will be there, and we need to get some more player feedback on how that feels to play before we go too deep in to the new levels we’re developing for Early Access. It’ll also be good to get data from the game running on different systems out in the wild. The Playtest version of the game will be the single level Last Days of Zala. We’re planning to have the Leaderboards up and running for the test, and will have some kind of reward for top finishers – but only once we get a good reward for Vibers as well. More details on that as we get everything sorted, and suggestions are welcome! Now for the second announcement – we will not be running a Kickstarter, at least not this year. In approximately 5 weeks of a/b testing aimed at gauging 1) player interest in SEAR, and 2) potential backer interest in a Kickstarter, we saw a lot of strong results for the first and more tepid results for the second. The data was strong enough to both bolster the idea that there’s definitely an audience for this game and make it clear that running a Kickstarter simultaneously with getting the word out about the game would be a significant risk. When I started this adventure last year, crowdfunding stood out at to me as the most viable way to get SEAR made, but a number of things...
