About this game

Pixel-neon action rhythm roguelite. Six punches. 27 machines. One shot per round.

Punch falling notes with six strike directions, chain combos, hit score targets and survive brutal machines. Miss the target — the run is over.

Between every round, visit the shop. Buy gloves, collect punch-cards, stack artifacts and build your boxer for the next fight. Every third round, a boss introduces a nasty new mechanic.

FEATURES

🥊 6 Punch Directions

Master left cross, uppercut, right cross, left hook, right hook and overhand punches.

🤖 27 Machines & 9 Bosses

Every machine weakens one of your punches. Bosses bring deadly twists: faster notes, trap notes, blackouts and tighter perfect windows.

💀 One Shot Per Run

Miss the score target and your combo ends. Hold the combo to maximize damage — but mistakes cost everything.

🃏 Build Your Boxer

Punch-cards increase specific punch damage. Artifacts can completely change a run — from doubled money to risky crit builds.

🛒 Shop Every Round

Buy gloves, cards and rerolls. Money is limited, choices matter.

♾️ Endless Mode

Beat run 27? Keep pushing until the machine breaks you.

👕 Cosmetics & Wardrobe

Unlock outfits, skins and customize your boxer.

🎮 Controls

Keyboard:

QWE (top) / ASD (bottom)

Gamepad:

RL/X/RB (top) /  Y/A/B (bottom)

Who is this for?

If you love Crypt of the NecroDancer, Punch-Out, Balatro!! and roguelite runs where every attempt feels different — welcome to the ring.

The screen before the round is now a place

The screen before the round is now a placeThe moment before you start a round used to be a box floating over the game. You looked at your own playfield through a hole in a menu. It is a room of its own now.A room, not an overlayThe playfield disappears behind a full-screen retro backdrop that slowly cycles colour — the same filtered look the options screens use.It fills the whole screen. The stage bar is hidden there and its job is done by a big headline in the room itself: "STAGE 1 · ROUND 3". You still know exactly where you are — you just read it in much larger type.Opponent, target score and payout sit above the buttons as a proper heading instead of being crammed into them. The bets are arcade ticketsEach stake is a ticket with notched edges and a perforation across the middle. When you take a bet, the bottom part tears off. It comes loose at the perforation, tips over and falls. The price is printed on that stub. So you literally watch yourself hand it over — that is the whole reason the name sits on the top half and the price on the bottom one.It costs about a third of a second, and only when you actually bet. A round without a stake starts exactly as fast as before.Easier to readEvery line on that screen is bigger — opponent name, target, round info, and the text on the tickets.Boss ability descriptions are short now. They used to be paragraphs, and one of them literally read "Overclock: Overclock". A boss tells you what it does in one line; the rest you find out by fighting it.From the workshop: the wall I ran intoThe plan was simple — make the text bigger. Then I measured what was already there, and the plan fell apart: the longest ticket name, "SHORT BENCH", was using 209 of the 212 pixels it had. Three pixels of slack. Turning the dial up would have broken the word in half mid-render, and only in English, which is not the language I happened to be looking at.The way out was already in the code: the name wraps, so what actually matters is the longest single ...

The Punchbag Machine Update 1.4 — More Punches, Tougher Bosses

Free Update 1.4 Is LiveHey everyone,Update 1.4 for The Punchbag Machine is now live on Steam. This update is focused on making runs feel more intense, especially during later fights and boss encounters. Rounds now include more punches, which gives each fight a stronger rhythm and makes combos feel more rewarding to keep alive.Bosses have also been made tougher. Their note patterns are more demanding now, so you will need better timing, cleaner reactions, and fewer mistakes if you want to survive them. What changed?Rounds now have more punches.Boss fights are harder.Note patterns during boss encounters are more demanding.Runs should feel more intense and less empty. The overall pacing has been improved.I wanted the bosses to feel less passive and more like actual rhythm challenges. They should now put more pressure on you and punish sloppy timing more clearly. Thanks to everyone who has played the game so far, shared feedback, or tried to climb the leaderboard. If you already own The Punchbag Machine, the update is free and available now.Good luck against the machines.
