About this game

Void Profit is an Aetrocor-certified independent trading experience.

Under an active rental agreement, you are permitted to operate one (1) company vessel. Continued access is contingent on regular payment compliance.

Operate efficiently and stay profitable.

Authorized OperationsYou are granted full discretion over your activities.

Choose the cargo. Select your destinations. Establish what risks are acceptable. Aetrocor doesn't interfere with your choices. Performance remains your responsibility.

Route SelectionTransit is not always the same.

Routes differ in travel time, traffic and inspection pressure based on the factions controlling the area. Some are efficient and highly monitored. Others are slower and may have reduced oversight. Familiar routes may attract increased attention over time. Never rely on a single route. Operators are expected to evaluate conditions before departure.

Market ConditionsAll markets are subject to change.

Demand fluctuates. Supply shifts. As opportunities are utilized, they deteriorate. It is advised to take timely action.
Most goods remain tradable, but profitability is not guaranteed.

Rental obligations remain unaffected as per your contract.

Transit VariabilityInterceptions, manifest checks, cargo scans, or other disruptions may occur during transit. Traffic density is not constant. Routes may become unstable or temporarily unavailable.

Adapt accordingly.

Controlled SpaceAetrocor does not maintain jurisdiction over the zones you operate in.

Corporate territories, union-controlled regions, independent stations, and fringe sectors each maintain their own standards of enforcement, legality, and inspection behavior based on the controlling faction.
Be aware that requirements vary.

Rental TermsYour vessel remains the property of Aetrocor.

Continued operation requires:
- consistent income
- rental payments
- avoidance of excessive liability
Failure to meet these conditions may result in your contract being terminated.

- Independent trading under an Aetrocor contract
- Route selection with variable travel time, traffic conditions and faction pressure
- Market environments driven by supply, demand, the changing world and faction politics
- World events that affect routes, markets and local operating conditions
- Faction-controlled space with different enforcement and behavior
- Dynamic transit conditions requiring real-time response

Aetrocor provides the opportunity.
Remain operational.

Playtest ending this weekend. Findings and a new Roadmap.

Hello, There's been some silence surrounding the game as I've been focusing on fixing playtest issues and clearing up the demo before its release. Here's a quick update on what's happening. 1. The end of the first playtestThis weekend, on Sunday, I'll be deactivating the currently running playtest to focus on bigger changes. If you have any last minute feedback, going to the Discord is still the best option. The playtest ran for a lot longer than expected. Went from a month to two months of small and big changes. 2. Findings from that testThe main pieces of feedback were about readability, information and gameplay.A lot more useful information was added in two new screens. These should let you know WHY and HOW something is happening. A big balancing job was done as, contrary to my own belief, the game was at times extremely easy. This balancing included both gameplay and added limitations for the player.Readability and how information is shown is still something I'm working on as part of the improvements I'm making due to my own findings. This leads to the next point. 3. What's coming soonWhat I noticed is that there is no real goal in the game. It was a complete sandbox where, once you find the RIGHT method for YOU, there's nothing nudging you towards expanding, changing and engaging with the deeper mechanics. This is about to change. Something that should be finished sometime in September is the addition of the new Ledger and Charter systems. The Charter is something you can choose when starting a new run. This is somewhat of a "promise" of how you plan on playing the game. It will give you Jobs specific to that promise on a completely separate (timed) job board. This will open new possibilities and sometimes push you into new areas (both location and gameplay-wise).The Ledger is your way out. This is your score. This is your retirement. Once you become good enough at legal or illegal activities, you can "Retire" and save your score. This also adds the ability to ...

    Playtest Starting Soon

A VOID PROFIT playtest will be starting soon. The start of July is the test start range. This is a pre-demo playtest that will be indicative of the whole experience of playing the game. A demo will be released in the weeks following the playtest for people who will be more interested in playing a section of the game without the requirement of giving feedback. The ProcessThis will be a regular playtest requested through Steam. There will be a Request Access button for the playtest build. After that it will be added to your library and you can test, play, critique every part of the game. Making it a bit easierWhat you can do to make it a bit easier for me is to: 1. Join the Discord server here: https://discord.gg/YjbV42gTWr 2. Contact me on Bluesky: Corvid Food on Bsky 3. Join the subreddit: r/VoidProfit The game is close to being complete at this point. There's no next step for me except having people play it and fixing any issues people have with it. All I ask, as I would be approving most playtest requests, is that you're respectful. Even if you don't like it.

VOID PROFIT Devlog #9 - Keep the manifest clean

VOID PROFIT Devlog #9: Keep the manifest cleanA new game system has been addedThe manifest systemA new game system that expands on the current gameplay has been added. It's the manifest system. You now have to keep a manifest for your cargo. BUT DON'T WORRY! It gets automatically populated when you buy or sell cargo. You just need to "File" and/or change it. You need to declare your cargo to avoid issues with authorities when docking or during inspection stops. The new gameplay this createsThis opens up the gameplay to new possibilities. First - you can now lie to avoid any illegal cargo issues. If you have a good standing with a faction you can pass an inspection on manifest submission alone. If you're carrying something illegal you can declare it as something...not as illegal. And, if your manifest looks plausible, there's a good chance of that happening. Here's an example: You normally carry Food. Most inspections so far have only found Food items in your cargo hold. You have a refrigeration upgrade on your ship so you're probably mostly carrying Food. However, you have decided that there's good profit in carrying weapons. Weapons are illegal cargo for certain factions. You decide to declare them as Food. You're a know Food supplier. You can probably move on with just that without being scanned. That does not guarantee that the inspection officer won't run a scan on your ship anyway. And here's where the next gameplay effect comes in. Second - a new risk vs. reward system for you, as a captain, now exists. While you can lie, in a lot of cases that WILL make things worse. If an inspection finds illegal cargo they'll confiscate it and issue a fine if you're carrying a significant number of illegal items. If it's declared illegal cargo they might just confiscate it. Some factions won't even bother doing that for just a few illegal items. But if you have illegal, undeclared (or falsely declared) cargo and it's found through a cargo scan then you're in for a MUCH bigger f...

VOID PROFIT Devlog #8: Authored Dialogue

VOID PROFIT Devlog #8: Authored DialogueA massive overhaul of the dialogue system has been implementedA more natural dialogue systemBefore this change dialogue was constructed from different lines based on world, player and market states. As the variety of states changed, this dialogue was starting to feel extremely unnatural. Appending, prepending and inserting lines into the NPC dialogue turned into nothing but a series of dialogue snippets stitched together (which it was). Now the system has been changed. The dialogue is now entirely authored for almost all cases. The game now decides the best line that needs to be pulled from several dialogue assets based on the same conditions as before. This creates a fully natural feeling to the dialogue. Faction identity is now realUsing this cleaner, bigger method to show dialogue leads to a MUCH stronger faction identity. Different factions now feel completely different as they can easily react to the world and player in a way that is authored for that specific faction.Changes:Added authored faction-specific dialogueDocking, Job and Interception dialogue is fully written and no longer constructed from conditional snippetsBig code changes to how dialogue is fetched and shown to the player (this is more of a code improvement that should be mentioned and shouldn't really affect the moment-to-moment gameplay)

VOID PROFIT Devlog #7: Deepening Gameplay

VOID PROFIT Devlog #7: Deepening GameplayMade some changes that should deepen gameplay and improve emergent gameplay possibilities.Pirate GuildThe Pirate Guild was just a major/core faction. They behaved like everyone else and, since they don't have any cargo they consider illegal, were just a nuisance. Now they act completely differently. Traveling through other factions' area will mean that you'll have to pay close attention to routes you're taking if you have illegal cargo or outstanding fines. The Pirate Guild is now not like that. They care if you have a lot of credits on you. They care if you're transporting an important passenger. They stop and scan you on less populated routes. This is something that you should consider while traveling through Pirate-controlled space. Otherwise you might lose a passenger and job. Or even worse, lose credits to what they call a "Toll."Cargo ManufacturersGeneric just "cargo" is gone. Well not gone, just changed a bit. There are still generic items you can buy/sell/carry but now there's an added layer to that - Cargo Manufacturers. These manufacturers specialise in a specific cargo type and might fetch a better price or be a requirement for a job (e.g. Job is to procure ship armour plates, pays a specific price per item, pays more for HeraTek armour plates). However, a lot of these manufacturers also produce other cargo that they're not specialised in. Quality of those items might be really bad, worse than the generic stuff. So it's up to you to learn what will bring in profit instead of just buying branded cargo. This is just a small layer that brings a lot of gameplay depth.Changes:Changed the Pirate Guild faction - tolls, scanning logic, dialogue and behaviour.Added a differentiating layer above the base cargo - manufacturers.Changed jobs to take manufacturers in considerationAllowed the player specialisation to include specific manufacturers. You can now be a trusted supplier of not just a type of cargo but a manufacturer's ...
