A world where silence tells its own story

A world that asks questions instead of giving answersSteinvar is a Scandinavian-inspired RPG where exploration and atmosphere matter just as much as combat. From day one, we didn't want to build another RPG filled with endless quest markers, constant dialogue, and grinding. We wanted players to slow down, look around, and gradually piece together the story themselves. You arrive on a forgotten island. The only reminder of civilization is a lonely lighthouse standing high above the sea. The landscape looks peaceful, almost beautiful...Yet something feels wrong. That feeling is intentional.Instead of explaining everything through cutscenes, we wanted the world itself to tell its story. Every corber, every ruined path, and every strange landmark exists for a reason. Curiosity is rewarded, and the more carefully you explore, the more the island begins to reveal itself.Inspired by Scandinavian cultureWe weren't interested in simply copying Viking stereotypes.Instead, we spent a lot of time researching Scandinavian architecture, clothing, landscapes, interior, and Old Norse language to create a world that feels believable rather than exaggerated.Even the title reflects that idea.Stein (Norwegian/German) means stone, while var (Old Norse) means guardian.Oops... that might have been a tiny spoiler. Atmosphere comes before actionOne of our biggest goals was making the island feel alive even when almost nothing is happening.Lighting changes throughout the day, shadows reshape familiar places, and after sunset the world becomes noticeably different. Sometimes you'll only hear the wind. Sometimes you'll notice distant sounds that make you stop and wonder whether you're actually alone.Silence is just as important as music.Built with Unreal Engine 5Steinvar is built with Unreal Engine 5, allowing us to create detailed environments, dynamic lighting, and a full day-night cycle.Stay out after sunset, and you might even spot fireflies lighting your way.Technology isn't the goal itself—...
